Sherco290 2003 Rebuild Cost

Featured Replies

Mates 290 is rattling like a gooden, got a mate whos a decent mechanic who is going to help me do the rebuild

What costs are we looking at for a full rebuild? not sure if its top end or bottom end?

Probs end up doing it all

Most do not need a conrod kit, which leaves main bearings and a top job with a few gaskets and seals.

Other place you can get a rattle is the clutch basket, the rubber dampers between the gear & basket shrink & go hard over time.

Splatshop has a blog on their site on renewing them, total cost is 0.85pounds x8 for the rivets, 1.19pounds x8 for the rubber pieces. I replaced the basket at the same time when I did mine as it's amazingly cheap at 24.71pounds

When you do the bottom end you can get the later main bearings which run seals & also get the Viton crankseals which last longer with any fuel that has ethanol in it.

If a later part is a direct replacement it automatically supercedes the previous part which means anything you order should be the latest generation/upgrade

Probably piston kit if the barrel is ok. You don't need to remove the head when you rebuild it so some of those O-rings won't be needed unless you have to replate the barrel

Ordered that full kit, plus little end bearing, clutch tool and fly wheel puller

Will check piston and barrel when they are out see how they are

How can you clean and inspect cylinder and head properly if you dont remove the head

Everything can be done from the bottom of the cylinder, if a decent oil has been used there won't be any build up on the head
