January 30, 20179 yr Is anyone having trouble keeping tire (tyre) pressure in the rear...riding buddy airs up, rides one or two sections and the rear is flat. He remounted the tire, changed the air valve - no help. I saw part of a conversation on Facebook but now can't find it. Appreciate the help.
January 30, 20179 yr Yeah, I've just got sick of pumping mine back up constantly and had a Michelin put on. Not massively happy as it's only 4 months old so £75 for a new tyre isn't great (I'm from Yorkshire)!!! Shop just said dunlops were s@@t!
January 30, 20179 yr It`s not the tire, it`s the rim. But it`s cheaper to buy the tire. We have 4 2016`s at work with Dunlops and have never had a flat. Edited January 30, 20179 yr by lineaway
January 30, 20179 yr Dead easy to fix........ Go round both sides of the wheel (where the tyre bead sits within the 'channel' inside the rim) twice with duct tape (similar brands available) cut to about 5mm width. This has the effect of increasing the inner circumference of the rim to match the tyre. Don't be tempted to go round more than twice otherwise the tyre will not have enough room to seat, and will just 'pop off' when you deflate the tyre. Being doing this for years with IRC's since I had one off the rim at Ruby Rocks many years ago and had to push about 3 miles back to the start. Being a 'Southerner', riding lots of glorious mud, I regularly in the Winter run as low 2psi and have never had an IRC (or any other tyre) off the rim since doing this mod.
January 30, 20179 yr It could be that the beads are not seating properly in the rim. Its difficult to explain without a diagram but if the bead grips the rim as the tyre is inflated it twists rather than seating properly. Make sure there is no flash on the beads, clean the rim thoroughly and then lubricate both the bead and the rim with plenty of aluminium grade tyre fitting lube. Inflate to 50 or 60 PSI and leave at this for 30 minutes. If this does not work there probably is a mismatch between tyre and rim and you will have to try one of the other suggestions. Sometimes using impact adhesive (do not allow to go tacky) as a tyre fitting lube works.
