KICKSTART / IDLE GEAR ISSUES

Hi.

Hi all

Am rebuilding my bike and am replacing kickstart and idle gears.

I put shaft and new kickstart gear in and found the kickstart and idle gears do not disengage.

I have re tried with the old shaft to see if the newer version was the issue. Same result.

I am completely at a loss. I'm pretty sure it's indexed ok. Kickstart have done the 360 degree twist.

Have I done some simple / silly wrong that someone can identify.

I'm wondering if I got sent wrong parts. Bart gear doesn't have a B on it but read elsewhere that the old aren't available anymore so maybe they don't need a B on it? New bart gear slides on both old and new shaft (read elsewhere they are not interchangeable).

Should be this hard - 4 hours in garage so far ..... :(

Thanmks for any replies.

Daz

thanks chaps. I rechecked it and it is not all the way in / flush as you correctly observed.  I removed the spring and remounted and it fitted ok so as the spring is wound it prevents it from fully engaging. Is it the way I'm coiling it or should I get another spring? Thanks.

Your friction spring (MT280226006) is in the wrong position. It is facing towards that little nick on the gasket mating surface, (about 10 o'clock in your photo) but it should be facing towards the engine dowel (12 o'clock in your photo). it fits in an indent in the clutch case, and must be in that position on re-assembly.

Rotate it on the shaft so it lines up with the dowel before putting the clutch case back on.

Hi, make sure you have inserted the long end if the return spring into the correct opening in the crankcase. I believe there are two, one is specifically for the spring, and I think the other is an oilway opening. Haven't done one for a while, so all this is off top of my head, sorry I didn't do the research!

PSorted with a new spring (may have been weekend away from it and fresh approach!). Last conundrum are if you can help:

Does last washer on KS shaft go on before case is fitted ?

T1001824

I appear to have 2 ally spacers left over. Hoping these not come from another project (hangs headpin shame). Can anyone identify if they should be in gas gas clutch area because I can't see where!

Thanks.
