hey all,

I have this problem for a while and have tried everything to stop it (new float valve, float height etc) but it is running that rich that i can't go more than one lap without cokeing the plug up until the point the engine cuts out.

Thanks

Jack H

Have you tried the following

Fuel at 70:1 (65ml in 5 litres)

Air screw 1.5 turns out

Needle set low in carb ie; clip in top notch

The correct plug ngk BP5ES (as rec'd by Lampkins)

A clean air filter

A clean carb

A plug chop after a ride across the moors under load in 4th/5th

I would run it leaner than 70:1

At least 80:1 and depending on what oil you are using even up to 100:1

I know you are to young to ride it on the road, but you need to get it somewhere that you can give it a proper clear out. All the 4 laps of Nash Mills etc will be catching up with it.

agreed, 70:1 is way to rich... I've run 100:1 on my betas for 3 years and they always run sharp at sea level.

100:1 is only 50mls of oil in 5 litres of fuel.... is that really all you use?

By the way; 65mls of oil in 5 litres is actually 77:1

sounds favourite to me, I suspect most of rest is near enough so bike would at least run for more than a lap, blocked exhaust will do exactly what bike is doing (have you ever had a gasser with aluminium midddle silencer collapsed) although you should feel a lack of performance if exhaust is blocked.
