  1. It's a proper carbon fibre heat shield. I bought one a couple of months ago and they clip straight over the WES mid silencer. I can't find the link to Ian's website but he was also at the Telford show. E-mail: IANJPEBERY@aol.com He does quite a few TY parts. I thinks the shield was about £65 + postage.
  2. Not wishing to hyjack the post and not having ridden any of the modern bikes (Ty175), but are the 300's for experts only because of the power, or are they easier to ride than the equivalant 250 for beginners as presumaby they have more torque?
  3. Hoggy, If your looking for something to wheelie off the throttle then I think you need to be looking at a 2 stroke. The WR250 will wheelie if you give it enough throttle, but not really whilst TRF type riding as I am never going/reving fast enough and more than my skill level. But not instantly and at will like a 2 stroke, more a big handful of throttle and heavy yank on the bars. One of the guy's that I ride with has a DRZ400 and that seems pretty much the same. I used to have a KDX200 and that was more like what you are describing. I believe the KTM 300 2stroke is a very torquey engine but also with a lot of power like your after. However from what I here they are in a higher state of tune and much higher maintenance.
  4. I ride a WR250F with the TRF. It's more than enough offroad. Some of the trails in North Wales are quite technical and I think a bigger bike would be a bit of a handful. However it's not ideal onroad as it's ok upto 50-60mph. However watch what tyres you use as Enduro tyres aren't great onroad. Also, watch the seat height as the WR and a friends TTR are quite high. I think that electic start is a real bonus restarting a stalled bike half way up a technical climb.
  5. Frodsham Club trial tomorrow (5th May) if you fancy it. I'm going to try it again on my TY after my failure last time (1st trial).....section one and snapped my brake lever. Gary

    Bloody Bike

Aircooled RD250/400's have the fin rubbers fitted as standard. They do cut down a bit of the rattle and high frequency vibration. Heres some similar Suzuki ones on ebay. You might also get some from Yambits. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Suzuki-Fin-Cylinder-Head-Barrel-Rubber-Pad-/251251148085?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3a7fbc4535 I have a TY175 and a number of RD's. As Mattylad mentioned, if you run on original Yamaha pistons & rings then they run much quieter. Most people are now used to hearing motors with water cooling and that makes the engine a lot quieter. I have just sold my Powevalve Yam and thats watercooled. When I jump off that and ride one of the Aircooled RD's or my TY they sound like they are about to fall apart. They are in a low state of tune and and the old engines had fairly lose tolerences, so as others have said, just ride it.
  7. Like to see that with the No Stop rule implemented!
  8. I went to the recent Winsford Trial held at the Frodsham at the Alvanley Trials Ground and took quite a lot of photo's with my SLR. It was a nice sunny day so got some pretty good action shots and I'm happy to give them to the club/riders. However I can't find a Winsford club website to offer them the photo's. anyone got a link or club contact e-mail address. The Cheshire & North Wales Centre site lists the Trial results but no contact details.
  9. Just bought a set of TY175 footrest mounts from Sammy Miller and received them yesterday. I mentioned to them that I had read that they were a bit weak and they were most indignant saying that they had no reports of this! The backing plates are 5mm thick with the sections that hold the footrest 4mm thick. The bracket quality is OK but the footrests are obviously made to a budget with rust showing on the internals of the chromed footrests on receipt. To be fair to SM products, if they don't get reports of faults they can't improve them.
  10. Checking the Frodsham Trials website results page, it was Danny. I was interested in the mods Danny had made to his TY175 footpeg hangers and would like to have got a template from them if possible. I have tried sending you a PM but can't either because I'm a new member or maybe your mailbox is full. Thanks Gary
  11. Well......... I'm waiting to get the wheels back from the wheelbuilders. I'm probably going to need some shocks as I doubt the original one's that are on it will be much cop now! So the TY should be ready in a month, but I could do with getting a bit of practice somewhere before the next trial, as like you it was the late 70's when I last rode a Trials bike. Had a good chat with a guy riding a TY175 last Sunday. I think he was called Dan from Runcorn. Anyone got contact info for him as he had made a set of footrest mounts that I could do with copying?
  12. I went to have a look and joined the club. I had a brief walk around and watched a few sections. Everyone was very friendly and I got chatting to a few of the riders. Some nice twinshocks there mixing it up with the modern bikes which was good to see. Can't wait to get my TY175 going!

    Tyres For A Ty175

Thats_a_five, In the UK, all tyre retailers seem to be currently out of stock of twinshock specific tyres. IRC still make them but Michelin have stopped production. I have been told that the modern tubless tyres will fit to Bultaco's & Montesa's etc but on the Japanese TY175 rims the tubeless bead will initially seat when the tyre is inflated until hard, but once the tyre is lowered back to a typical trials pressure they jump back off the bead. Again from reading other posts tubless tyres seem to need the bead grinding back to fit the TY! http://www.trialscentral.com/forums/topic/43140-michelin-x-light-on-a-twinshock/page__p__314517__hl__tyres#entry314517 I have contacted Trail & Trials and they are getting some IRC's in towards the end of Jan so I will have to wait until then.
  14. Hi, New to the forum and trials riding. I have just bought a TY175 which still had it's original tyres from 1979! I'm struggling to find any UK suppliers which actually have suitable replacment tyres in stock. I believe that IRC and Michelin make suitable tyres but can anyone suggest a supplier? From reading other posts I don't think I can fit tubless tyres with a tube as they don't seat proberly?
  15. I'm going to go and have at Frodsham on the 6th. I believe I can sign up for membership and an ACU licence. However I won't be riding as I'm doing some work on the TY and struggling to find tyres at the moment!
