  4. I have a 1976 TY175 with clutch and shifting problems. It shifts very hard: I cleaned and greased the shifter mechanism under the countershaft sprocket but it is still not the usual smooth shifting normally expected from a Yamaha. It has a hard "click" to shift. The shaft that the clutch is mounted has considerable endplay. When you push/pull on the shaft there is about .030" movement. The clutch does not have a consistent engagement/disengagement. How much endplay should I expect from a transmission shaft and could this be the problem with the stiff shifting? I am under the gun here as I plan to ride next month at the Oklahoma AHRMA event. I am thinking th…

Does anyone remember in the early 70's when the TY 250 A model came out Mick Andrews organised a TY 250 for Pete Oakley and a couple of other riders. They sported some stickers with the riders names, the Yamaha tuning fork logo and Mick Andrews trials team. Ideally I'd like an image as I want one to complete a period restoration. Can anyone help please?

I’ve heard the Wes exhaust sound on a TY250 and want to know if my TY175 will sound similar if I mount the Wes on it. I expect a175 to sound different from a 250 but the 250 I heard had a very ‘modern trials’ sound. My 175 sort of ‘cackles’.... Anyone got a video with sound of their wes-equipped 175?

Hi all , it seems there are lots of different rear shocks out there, some rated at soft and super soft action ect and i am 95 kg so need stronger spring rate to go on the shocks . I would have said you needed stiffer shocks for stronger springs , what do you find works best??

For a Covid project I completely disassembled my 1976 TY175 and rebuilt the motor with new bearings and seals as well as going through the rest of the bike. I had some concern with the transmission when I initially rebuilt the motor, and, when I put it all back together and started it up I was only able to locate first, second and neutral. I have the motor disassembled again and I am trying to figure out what I did to cause this to happen. Prior to initial disassemble the tranny was notchy but shifted through all six gears. Currently, I have the transmission mounted in the left-side cases. In attempting to rotate the shift drum I have difficulty getting through all the ge…

  15. So now it looks like the crankshaft is out of tolerance for "Deflection Tolerance". Basically the crank is "spun" as the engine rebuilders like to say.. So in simpler terms, the left end of the crank is not lined up with the right end. The tolerance in the shop manual is only 0.0012" per side and I've got .005" of runout total. Does anyone have any experiance with "tapping" the crank halves back into alignment?

The mechanism that pushes the pushrod to disenguage the clutch plates isnt working right and drops a bit. Seems like it is not pushing the pushrod, there is no resistance against it, and it doesn’t return to neutral positions. Do I have to split the cases to get to it to repair it? Any thoughts on what it might be?

Any pointers for the supply of ty250 mono spares in the uk? thinking of buying a project so doing a bit of homework first before I get in too deep... I assuming it’ll need most areas looked at and rebuilt at some point... engine, brakes, linkages, rear mudguard/ seat. The gear lever looks to have been welded to the shaft... how easy is it to remove/replace the gear selector shaft? Thanks in advance...
