Hi Everyone, Ive got this nice looking TY125, it has always been really hard to start, and takes awhile to get itself together, it would die on me whenever you put it next to a hill and was as if it was drawing in too much air, so changed the crank seals put it all together again and it ran better but has a really bad knocking noise (worse than the norm) and then the bike locked up, and when stripping it back I noticed the primary gear shaft nut had came loose and that had jammed the engine (luckily no damage) , it does have an aftermarket piston kit in it which are not the best so got a 2nd hand genuine head and piston to try it (Good Condition) and the bike still took a…

Currently restoring my Yamaha TY 175. Planning on having all the alloy / magnesium aqua blasted i.e. crankcases, yokes, brake plates etc. Ive been told this gets a very nice finish. Has anybody done it ? Maldon seems to be a reputable company. Has anybody used them ? Also has anybody done it to their carb ? Surely if all the jets are removed and you flush it through with compressed air and solvent it should be ok. People have told me not to do it. Shame to spend all that time restoring a bike just t have a manky old carb sitting in the middle of the bike.

Im sure I saw an article on rebuilding the rock shocks does anyone know where it is. Mine have lost the damping but i cant work out how they come apart. Im pretty sure the allen bolt has to come out of the upper mount but dont want to go at them like a bull in a china shop as they are alloy and easy to damage. Im sure they are early ones as they have circlip as well as adjustable collets to put the tension on the spring. Thanks very much John.

I need to replace the rear fender on my bike. It broke and the previous owner did a serviceable but hard to look at job of riveting it together. I've kept an eye on Ebay but was wondering what vendor options I might have.

Doing a full restoration on my 1978 TY175. Someone who has owned the bike before me has kindly (said with sarcasm) drilled out the threaded nut which is welded onto the bottom engine mount at the rear of the engine. Could someone please tell me the size of the thread (i.e. M7, M8, etc)which should be in this engine mount. For some reason the hole in the engine which this particular bolt slides through looks bigger than the other two. Is this the case ? Also, the top mount at the rear of the engine has a bush which goes through the crank case. Should the other two mounting holes in the engine have this also ? Your advice would be much appreciated. Gareth

Hello could anyone please tell me the difference between a standard yamaha mono rear hub and a talon item.If I had a talon do I need a talon sprocket .Is the pitch of the holes the same as a standard yamaha hub and will, say a renthal fit both. Was the alloy kickstart an after market addition or standard on some models most have the long steel one which does look more substantial,Or where they all alloy and have been replaced over the years.many thanks for your help ,suzuki tc.

Rebuild of my lads TY80 is getting there, lost the little ball bearing which goes between the mushroom push rod and the plain push rod... rod diameter is 4.8mm so I'm guessing a 4mm ball will do the trick? Thanks for any info!

Well I rode the 74 TY250 in it's first Trial (with me). Beautiful day, 60 degrees and sunny. The bike was a joy. Never a complaint, never a hiccup. Pulled good in all gears. Running the waited flywheel and very low gearing so I could creep through tight turns. Not a lot of back pressure to slow you on the steep down hills. Started first kick every time (well as long as you turned the switch to the on position). Bad news: Going over about a 24" fallen tree I mis-did and ended up coming straight down on the skid plate , which cracked (seems to have spared the cases), and bent the shift lever into a pretzel. Had put a set of worn tires on which slid a couple of tim…

Picked up another 74 TY250 this past week. Guy about 1/2 hour from my house had it at a fairly reasonable price. Runs fine, had been used for motocross. I have been going through everything. Changed fork oil, took MX tires off and put Trials on, took the lights off (they actually worked), took the Preston Petty fender off the front. Pulled the flywheel side cover off and the flywheel has a large weight attached. I know they used to be used quite a bit but had never seen one on a TY. The bike has a beautiful slow idle and actually accelerates very well. Also has a larger rear sprocket than my other TY (haven't counted the teeth yet). Oh, and it has the lightest …

Evenin all. I noticed some posts re TY 250 clutch heaviness. I recently bought a 78 TY250 D (The Majesty replica recently pictured) and found the clutch action to be heavy. After a full primary side stripdown all I found were worn friction plates and slight notching of both hub and basket. I spoke to John Cane at Trail and Trials and he recomended new friction plates and standard (lightweight) Yam springs, as the pattern springs are heavier gauge wire and thus higher poundage. So new friction plates, new cable, notches from hub and basket removed, clutch and gearbox running in ATF, there is a definite improvment. I also noticed that the clutch arm has been lengthe…

Hi Rebuilding a TY250 Mono, Can anyone post a complete idiots guide to re-installing the generator and setting up the timing. Motor has been stripped and rebuilt by local Yamaha specialist. I could take the generator to him, but would prefer to learn how to do it myself. Thanks in anticipation.

  19. Hi there Just bught an old TY175 to restore and am picking it up on sunday. The autolube has been taken out and I was just wondering what sort of pre-mix ratios people use. I run my Beta on a 70-1 semi synthetic mix so would the same be suitable ? Also does anybody know if the TY175 has the dreaded Z spoke system. As I haven't seen the bike I can't tell and the guy I'm buying it off doesnt care what spokes it's got. The only reason I ask is because I had a TY250 mono which needed a wheel rebuilt and all the wheel re-builders near me refused to touch it because of the Z spokes. Finally, does anybody know how the frame and engine numbers correlate to the year of prd…

Was wondering whether anybody knew if the fins on the cylinder and cylinder head are aluminium or some ferrous type metal. Just bought a Ty 175 and the cylinder and head look like they have more paint on them than a desert tank. Was hoping to have them shotblast and polished if they were aluminium. Has anybody tried this ? Regards Gaz
