I have a TY250D that someone else 'restored' and cosmetically it looks the business. I have sored a few issues with it and decided to fit a Kevlar clutch as I know the TY175 had clutch problems and heard that the TY250 was the same. I fitted a Kevalr cluthc in my Honda it it cured all it's problems. Anyway, I stripped the clutch down to find that whoever rebuilt the engine didn't bother to recondition the clutch basket which is badly grooved. In taling the clutch hub off, my supposed 'specail holding tool' broke the clutch hub so I now need to find another one. I noticed when I got the clutch in to the washing tank that the clutch steel plates are not completely circ…

hi all im in need of some advice on what is the best fuel to oil mix for a ty80 that as had a total engine rebuild! Every bearing done ie gearbox, crank, new conrod, new piston, rebore, new clutch new seals the job lot and its cost me a small fortune? I have done away with oil pump and blanked hole off with a kit i bought from tytrials.co.uk. im now ready to run the bike for the first time and was wondering what fuel mix would be best to run engine in before my lad gets on it and kills it! Cheers for any help!

I have a 1976 ty175. Have noticed lately that the bike is hard to get into gear. The lever seems hard to move and does not seem to want to return back (wants to stay in highest position after shifting) any ideas on what might be causing this.

Hey all , a good friend and all around good guy that I ride with informed me he was moving out of his house into a townhouse and would have to get rid of a 74 ty 250 , and asked if i were interested. I said i was, and asked what he wanted for her , his reply was "nothing , its yours !" So needless to say I am excited to bring her back to life ( parked in garage for many years, and was purchased as a parts bike) I have never restored anything , but am fairly competent in the garage, but am looking for any advice or input from your vast experiences ! Here are a few pics, mind you it was in boxes two hours earlier, but i just couldn't resist !

Dear all, can anyone give me a definitive answer as to what engine parts are the same, if any, between a TY175 (engine number is 525-2***** which is 1977 on) and a DT175 of approximately the same year? I need to strip my engine (it's burning the gearbox oil and so running like a dog) and I have been told by a couple of 'experts' that the 2 engines are identical but how can they be as they are intended for different uses? I accept some parts may be the same to keep production costs down but I don't want to buy any parts in the hope they may be the same. Also, who in England are the best people to deal with for TY parts? I don't necessarily mean the cheapest but the best qu…

This is for Woody, I noticed that you bought one of the side stands off ebay, I bought one as well but when it came it has rather a strange bend and the nipple that holds the spring seems to be on the wrong side. I just wondered if yours was ok or if you know if this is correct. cheers

I have recently removed the flywheel weight from my TY250 Twinshock and went out on it this morning to try it out. What a difference! Much more responsive. It pulls right off the bottom of zero revs and I can now ride a section that requires 2nd gear somewhere in the section and ride the whole section in second, without having to think about changing up. This is where it is most noticeable as it will now pull second instead of dying if I'm not revving it enough, as before. Also I've had to turn the tickover screw out 1/2 a turn now the engines not dragging the extra weight around. The weight (and bolts) weighed 750 grams. The flywheel now weighs 1650 grams with it r…

My cousin is asking for information on how to bump his TY175 to 200(ish). I searched and found a couple threads but none were specific. 1. What piston is used and are there any modifications to it? 2. I have been told there is a spacer under the barrel. Are there specs on the thickness? 3. I believe there is at least one UK supplier who can do said conversion but we will be looking to do this locally (if possible). 4. I told him to go on a diet or get a TY250, so far both of those suggestions have been ignored... 5. I'd suggest trying a boost bottle first but we'll see how that goes. Any other tricks?

My Majesty is the 320 version and ever since I bought it I have always felt it could and should run better, sweeter, nicer than it does. I have been down the airbox modification route, I ve changed the carb for a new Mikuni and re jetted it, it runs on a lean petrol oil mix . In fact it recently came back to the uk for a very well respected friend to have a look at it and although its improved its still not right. Now, bearing in mind you can write on a stamp what I know about engines, it still seems weak to me and does nt have a crisp engine note or really likes to rev out. My question, is it due to the fact of the engine size and would a better bet be to reduce it b…

Has anyone a suggestion for a more generous seat for my 1974 TY250? I want to trail ride rather than trial ride. Is there any easy bolt on seat from some other model that will put enduro-comfort under me? Thanks Kodiak Bill

Hi. Bought this bike a while back and always wondered about the exhaust shield. Has anyone seen one of these before or is it a DIY job. Also were the one piece tank and seat units fitted to some bikes from new, or are they always an aftermarket addition. Any info welcome. Thanks WD
