What is the best jet choice for a Yamaha TY175 carb. Same with the slide is there an improvement to be gained by changing from the standard carb settings which at the moment are as in the Haynes manual. It is run on pre-mix, there is no oil pump.

Hi All I have fitted Boyesen reeds, Sammy Miller tail pipe, 27.5 pilot jet and high flow air filter to my TY175. Thanks to some great advice on this forum (especially from Andy.T) it is running great and the improvement over standard is big. I am considering an electronic ignition kit and would like to hear from anyone that has fitted one to their TY175. Where did you get it (TY Trials, JK hirst, other)? What cost? What difference has it made? I'm trying to figure out if it's worth the expense for me as it'll cost (with shipping to NZ) about half what I paid for the bike. There has been some discussion of more cost effective ways of doing it, i.e. not a complete kit…

I have a 1974 TY250 that I recently bought and before I started the bike I pulled the cylinder off.I found the piston which is standard bore was cracked.I bought a new piston 1st oversize and was going to replace the bearings on the crank. Is it a good idea to use the stock rod and replace the rod bearings or should I buy a new rod? Is there a way to tell if the low end is good or bad besides the obvious? Thanks for any help Mike

Split my TY250 crank (bearings were bad). Marked it good for re-assembly but would really like to have any suggestions on "Tricks" to ease the re-assembly process. I'm still concerned about getting it aligned correctly. Thanks in advance. Alan

Any one know where I can get one of the aftermarket front sections (JK Hirst are out of stock and not sure when they will have anymore) I was thinking of asking a local company who make custom car exhaust systems to maybe look at making a stainless one for me but I would imagine a one off might be a bit pricey. If anyone else is interested?? I could get a price for a job lot of say 12 to try and get the price down. any ideas ?? Cheers Tim

I just bought a pinky which hasn't being used alot in the last 4 years. It has a rear disc conversion which the previous owner told me was on the bike when he bought it. Were there kits available for this conversion or was there a favourite rear wheel and disc? It currently doesn't work and i'm split between fixing or replacing it.

My ty 250 85 or 86 model seems to soot up it's plug after about 20 min of rideing, im am in the process of renovating it and have done the main bearings and seals, decoked and repacked the exshaust, replaced the reeds and rejetted the tk carb to 38 pilot 145 main and set the float height to 25mm. I have just checked the resistansis of the ignition according to the manual and have found that the coil was quiet a bit off wot it should be, so my question is could it be the coil that is causing the sooting up, i dont want to just buy a new one if there is no chance that this could be the problem. Thanks Nick

I have just bought a second hand Sammy Miller silencer and some Boyesen reeds for my otherwise standard TY175. Has anyone else fitted similar and what changes did you have to make (if any) to the carb settings? Were any jetting changes required? Carbs are a dark art to me and any help will be greatly appreciated. Hopefully I'll be able to understand it.
