I lowered the needle jet to improve the high speed running on my '84 mono and it worked. However after trying it out I was comming back when the engine wouldn't slow down with the throttle so I hit the kill button and nothing. I pulled in the clutch and coasted to a stop with the engine reving very fast. I turned off the petrol then gritted my teeth and pulled off the spark plug lead. Still nothing - the engine kept reving very fast. I had no idea what to do after that. Then after a few seconds smoke came from around the top of the engine or under the tank or somewhere and after another couple of seconds it died alltogether. Now there is no spark. Anyone any ideas. PS Tr…

Hi folks. Just wondering if anyone has ever tried fitting a wireless digital speedo to a 2 stroke. I got one but before I take it out of its packet (and loose the possibility of taking it back !), has anyone tried it or does the 2 stroke interfeer with it? Thanks.

Can anyone out there who has done this modification advise on the best way to go about it. Do the twinshock yokes need machining to fit the mono forks or can the mono stem be modified to accept the twinshock head bearings. Cheers dougalthedog

Hi i have a ty175 and am looking to re-spray some of the parts with the original white. I have rubbed them down and are ready but i'm not sure what colour white would look similar to the one there at the moment. Do you know which type of white paint i would need. Also the decal stickers that are on the bike (eg. 175cc) where can i buy these ? Thanks Ben

Dear All, I know this has been discussed before but hoping for a few tips. I'm currently 'remanufacturing' a TY250E for mildly competitive fun use and have just spent a day stripping the forks. It all came apart reasonably well (half an hour with an air powered impact gun eventually removed the damper tube bolts). A bit of careful cutting of slots with a Dremmel got the oil drain screws out and deft use of a centre punch got the old oil seals out. So now I have a collection of parts which seem relatively unworn, but one damper tube was rusty so must have been sitting in water for a while. The stanchions are pitted and will be sent off for straightening /rechrom…

Hello I have a question regarding the kill switch on my ty250 twinshock I have been restoring the bike and purchased a "push to kill switch" as the bike never had one. The swich that I have is a Normally open one, I would have thought that it would have been normally closed unless I am being thick. So the only way I can get the bike to run is to hold the switch in. I have wired it so that one wire for the switch is coming from the points and the other cable is going to the coil I am hoping that this is correct and that I have just got wrong switch. So my question is do I need a normally closed switch and is this something particular to Yamaha? as I cannot see how a no…

Hi folks, I've finally got my ty registered and am now able to use it. Since I have been using it I have been wondering why there is no guard of any sort over the linkages to stop mud and grit getting into the bearings. I know there is not a lot of room but I am thinking a bit of inner tube or the like would be just possible to be squeezed in there. I am new to trials. So is there an obvious reason why not, does it not cause any broblems or what do others do?

Hi all I hope there is somebody out there who can help me, I have several TY 175's that I have had for about 10yrs now one is completely in bits and the other I have never had it running properly in all the time I have had it, it has plenty of compression, been de-coked, new reed valve, plug, points, condenser, crank seals,I have 3 carbs and have cleaned and tried them all. When I got the bike it took about 20 kicks to start it and it was very sluggish and wouldnt tick over, I progressed from this to the bike going into melt down which was a bit frightening, flat out and not being able to stop it, plug must have been glowing as taking cap off didnt help, panic panic sa…

has anyone lengthened the clutch arm to give a lighter and more progressive action, I know it can't be lengthened much as there is not much room but would have thought it could be lengthened enough to make clutch feel better. (I rode mine yesterday for first time and found clutch a little heavy and was either in or out), before anyone suggests that clutch has a problem it is not that has it is all in as new condition including plates, drum, cable, pushrod, ball, mushroom etc. Thanks for any info.

Requesting an opinion here: Rode a Trial today. Several creek/river sections with the water probably 12 to 14" deep, also raining cats and dogs. Not in a sections but on the trail between, the bike started to run rough and finally quit (it has never done this before). Had to restart/ride a bit, restart/ride a bit then it cleared up. Ran fine for the rest of the Trial. Did I suck water into the air cleaner/carb or did I get the point wet? Well or any other suggestion you might have. Would like to solve this prior to the next Trial. Alan
