Just picked up a set of TY250 forks for my TY175. I know tytrials recommends going to longer shocks and then dropping the stock forks flush with the top clamp. However with the 250 forks should one still go with the longer shocks or standard length? Thanks in advance for your help!

Good evening gents I am just resolving a few minor issue's with my TY250 twin shock that I have been restoring over the past few months and I am in the lucky postion to have a spare bike albiet in bits sitting in the garage. I have been thinking about what to do with this bike as it needs a complete restoration and instead of restoring or breaking it I would like to do something differant and build something that is suitable for a bit of road work and green laning, so I am considering going along the lines of putting a four stroke engine into a ty250 Frame, Possibly a 400 cc single pherhaps a XT400 engine. I do seem to recall reading about a French chap who has done so…

I'm looking for a throttle cable assembly (from the carb top to the adjuster nut at the twist throttle) and the carburetor spring for the carb slide of my friend's 74 ty 250. Where is the best place to find these parts? Do these parts interchange with any other yamaha model? Thanks, Doug

I am rewiring a '74 TY250. It still had the original wires (several leading nowhere). On most bikes with a condenser inside the flywheel I relocate it to somewhere near the coil under the gas tank (Bultaco, BSA Bantam). Is there any reason that I "should not" do this on the TY? Theory is that it gets less heat/water/oil and won't break down as quickly. Thanks Alan

On a '74 TY240 there are 3 coils inside the mag. Only one (I guess) feeds the spark, other two for lights. Is there any reason to leave the lighting coils inside a "non-lights" Trials only bike? Second question: what is 434-81332-10-00 PLATE, TIMING since there is no adjustment to the timing what does this plate do? Thanks Alan

Hello Hope someone can help. I have decided to attack my ty twinshock middle box to repack it as I have already done with my pinky. But unlike the pinky the twin shock has what appear to be three empty seperate chambers behind a mesh and just a thin slice of packing sandwiched between the mesh and the outer skin of the pipe ( the part the heat shield bolts too ) Does anyone know if these chambers should be packed with fibreglass material or left empty, I can see no remains of packing unless it has all disintergrated and blown out. I intend to replace the very fine mesh baffle to the rear of the pipe as a mod I believe Mick Andrews said he does in one of his articles. Im a…

Hi folks, Were the ty50's any good compared to the ty80? There's a couple of ty50's in pieces for sale here and they might be good for my two sons to learn on (aged 7 and 9). Then again by the time I get them running the boys might be aged 17 and 19!! Cheers, Ade

hi, I know this has been discussed before, but, I can't seem to find any info. Has anyone got any ideas or managed to convert a mono into a usable twinshock? I know it's not eligable for anything, but I don't what to do with it. It's not worth anything and I can't see it would any different from from the current crop of late twinshock's around at the moment.

I bought a TY80 a week ago for the kids to learn on, everything was running fine until the other day when it ran out of petrol. Since then it has not fired up at all. I have checked the obvious things: the plugs sparking, fuel's getting to the carb although both jets were blocked, these have now been cleaned and carb seems to be working ok, have also checked air filter. Have been running the bike on a 50:1 mix as recommended by previous owner. Any other suggestions?

Has anyone tried an alternative front wheel for TY250 mono? As I have a gold one which is rotten and beyond repair I tried to get some new Z spokes but they no longer make them, has anyone tried a DT wheel etc to pick up the lug on the fork bottom.

Does anyone know if it is possible to use an electronic ignition from an RD80 or similar on a TY. If the flywheel fits the crank what all would need to be put on the bike to make it work, i.e. the CDI unit. I would want to run it without a battery so is there any way this would be feasable, I just thought that it would be a bit more reliable than points. Thanks for any advice you may be able to give me.

I'm looking to purchase new shocks for my TY175. The Betor Expert Trials shocks appear to be a great value. They are offered in 340mm (stock length) and 360mm. Trail and Trials UK states on their web site: "We fit these to all our TY125 & TY175 bike as the extra length not only increases ground clearance but improves the steering quite dramatically." Before I make my purchase I'm looking to see if anyone here has experience with the two lengths and if 360mm is the way to go. Thanks
