I just installed a new, nylon-lined Venhill clutch cable on my son's 74 TY80. I want to make sure the clutch mechanism itself is properly adjusted before adjusting the cable. There is a small phillips adjuster screw with a locknut under the cap on the left side engine cover. It appears to be for adjusting the clutch push rod/mechanism clearance. Does anyone know the proper "setting" and procedure for this adjustment? Thanks, Matthew

After my getting the clutch as easy as I could at present , I taught my little one how to ride his "new" bike ... 1; clutch to stiff for small hands ! 2 ; Stock throttle (and oe slide spring ) too light ... 3 ; Dads porting and expansion chamber de baffling , extra OOMMPHH ! (will lift the front end in 3rd gear on it's own w/my 200lbs on the seat !) 4 ; Trying to pull in clutch to stop (like DaD told him !) , jerks throttle WFO too ... and crashes into house... 5 ; big ole tear rolling down cheek and first words " is MY bike ok ? I dont know if anybody is interested but the TY trials club in France is organising an event centred in Paris on the 21st june. For only TY's of any capacity from 50 cc up, there will be a grand tour of Paris taking in all the well known tourist sights and some not so well know. Bikes have to be taxed and insured ...........Remember the Tour de Effel was scaled by a JCM perhaps its time to try again. Can anyone help me with finding the right shade of silver for a ty80 frame or is it a case of matching it up the best you can!

I'm converting my TY175 to pre-mix. If I remove the Autolube pump do I have to block the hole on the end of the worm gear (attached to the crank I think?)? Is there anything else I need to watch out for? Any advice/tips/info etc greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I am restoring a 1974 TY80 for my son. It's pretty much together, just a few small details here and there. I have referred on occasion to photos posted online and noticed something peculiar. On some bikes, I see the rear brake arm (on hub) pointing up so the brake rod would go over the top of the rear axle. On others, I see the arm facing downward so the brake rod would be positioned under the rear axle. Does anyone know which way is correct? Any thoughts or opinions on this? Thanks, Matthew

I've recently bought a 92 250 pinky, the clutch cover is pitted along the bottom edge and has been patched. I used to own a 94 pinky (in 94), it did the same after a couple of years. The reason i've been told is that the magnesium cover slowly dissolves in water. Is it true that earlier, pre pinky monos used aluminium covers rather than magnesium, if so do they fit exactly onto the pinky? Thanks in advance.

Hi I have just bought a TY175 to restore, fully stripped and now i'm scared, will it ever run again? Time is the great healer... There are a few things i'm not sure about but the biggest query is why does it have 2 plugs, 1 coil and 1 HT lead? It's an older orange one if that helps?

For Christmas I bought myself a TY175 but its in need of a bit of TLC. After reading through the forum I have found that the frame should be Vauxhall Sebring Silver but I connot find what colour the white tank should be. Can anyone offer any help please? If anyone has a rear brake pedal in good condition i'd also be interested.

I'm thinking of freshening up my tyz with a new set of rings. Have any of you done this recently? The reason I ask is the cost of the bits, especially if when I pull it down I find it needs a piston. I am assuming the bits fron the scorpa sy will be a direct fit, but how does their price compare to the tyz at : piston=

Having a couple of issues with my sons "new" Ty80, the main one being that it feels like the throttle is sticking open after reasonably large throttle openings when the engine gets up to temp.I've proved that the throttle isnt actually sticking.It has a brand new,freshly oiled venhill cable and I fitted a really strong return spring as an experiment.When the engine carries on revving you can close the throttle completely then when you start to open it again you can feel it pulling the slide open right from the bottom.This leads me to think it must be pulling in air elsewhere,perhaps around the reed block,main seals etc.Any…

On cleaning my bike I discovered the plastic swinging arm protector is broken. A. How crucial is it it is replaced B. How difficult a job is it. Does the swinging arm need to come out, and if so is it a major task. Thanks in advance

hi, recently purchased a TY175,believing it to be a sammy miller chrome frame model,turns out its a RAMYAM 175, just looking for any information re the history of this bike/frame builder etc, engine dates as a 1976 ty175 C, i thought RAMYAMS were more renown for monoshock ty250,s?please feel free to correct me!! any help greatfully recieved

Ok here we go with another dumb ? about the ty80 that the answer to should be in the shop manual I just got but it refers me to a old dt 250 manual thinking I'm in a yamaha dealer !How do I separate the fork tubes from the sliders so I can install the new seals I'm holding in my hand ... All I have is a sketchy exploded veiw of the forks ! And I want to know if I need any special tools that are not already at hand ? Thanks for your patience ... Glenn
