Can anyone advise if it's feasible to fit a right foot brake set-up to a 159 Sherpa? If so any recommendations for suppliers of the required parts?

I'm in the process of restoring 2 1972 MARs. One hadn't run in 22 years, the other last ran a couple of years ago. That bike had been sitting for a year or so then was started but only ran for a few minutes before dying. After the bike died, the previous owner could not restart the bike even though he tried many times and many methods. He eventually gave up and sold it to me. It had almost no compression. On removal of the cylinder I found the cause. The rings were worn down to almost nothing and both the bore and the piston were quite scuffed. I've sent the cylinder to Alex Snoop for a rebore and fitment of a 2nd over NOS Tarabusi piston. This bike came to me more or …

Hi Just bought a Cota 200, because I had two in the 80's And a few questions.. How can I tell if its a Montesa Honda? The Frame number starts MH and the front brake hub looks different to what I remember. It's got no spark at the moment, I think its because the wrong coil is fitted, a Fesma coil is fitted and all I get when holding the HT lead is a tickle of a shock. And to refresh my memory of points and things, the only wire used is the black from the coil on the stator which goes to the points, condenser and then to the HT coil, all other wires are just taped up behind the stator. The resistance of the coil on the stator is about 1.6 ohms, is this about right? …

Hope someone out there can give me some clues about my 348. The bike has always been hard to start from cold. It is running the standard Amal monoblock carb which was recently resleeved etc etc. Once the bike warms up it is fine although the amount of smoke it produces is embarrasing. (exhaust and muffler were hit with an oxy to burn all rubbish out) Fuel consumption is terrible. I went for a short ride today around the property and ran out of fuel coming back home. I put in just over 2 litres of fuel before heading off and would not have done more than 5 kilometres riding. There are no fuel leaks anywhere. It still has plenty of power but the above problems are d…

Currently modifying the OSSA for next year and i was wondering if anybody has had any experience with making an exhaust for a MAR? One thing i have never got my head around is why the exhaust is such a large bore? A 320 Majesty seems to run fine on a much smaller pipe as does my James so why does the OSSA and incidentally the Bultaco have such a large bore pipe? Has anybody tried a smaller bore one on their bike? The reason for asking is i can easily get hold of some 38mm s/s dairy bends which is what my James exhaust is made of. Also the TY twinshock exhaust is about the same diameter and a 320 seems to have no problem breathing well on that size. If i could get hold…

Hi guys, I am in need of a little help. I have fitted a standard airbox to my bike now but can't find anywhere to buy a filter from. I made my own filter using foam from a spare petrol disc cutter filter I had. The problem is the bike runs really rich especially at the lower throttle openings (up to 1/2 or 3/4). Dropping the needle helped a little but still way out. With no filter on the bike runs clean. Either my home made filter is too restrictive or someone has re jetted the carb to run without one. Could one of you kind fellows that have a 330 post (or email me) some good pictures of the 330 filter, perhaps with some measurements. I can buy a filter from a 242 but…

Hello people, This one might test the old dinosours (like me) out there. I have bought the above mentioned Gilera and was told it is about a 70-72 model trial/trail (I really don't know much about them). It has a four stroke motor, lights, electrics etc and I am wondering if anyone has any idea where spares can be obtained. I will try to post some photos once this camera of mine recharges its batteries, Thanks

Think I posted having problems getting one of the gearbox bearings out, in a blind hole. The bearing is conical, and a small amount of leverage popped out the balls and carrier leaving a conical internal surface and no space behind to get anything substantial in to grip: So I ended up grinding it out (no damage to the case

. Bore and piston is OK on the 349 but the piston pin has suffered from the same internal corrosion that wrecked many other parts (I already have a rod and big-end kit to fit). I can get a new piston, with a pin, for the oh-so modest sum of

Hi Got an old 247 for a song the other day ($20 Australian) except the motor had seized. Started pulling things down to get to the problem and found that the twit I bought it from must have gone into deep water, filled the crankcase with the stuff and just left it after it would not start. There is rust in the crankcase chamber and have managed to get the motor turning albeit tightly. I know the proper thing to do is to split the cases, replace bearings etc etc. but before I do that can anyone suggest how I might be able to flush all the rubbish out and getting it turning a bit lighter? If I can do this I will try to start it and see what happens. Any help much appre…

I have a Montesa 172 which is just about finished in terms of a rebuild, with a fair bit of money spent on it. It's very very original and a lovely bike. The problem is gear selection. When I bought the bike it would go in and out of first OK, but into second and above was very notchy. With the engine, all I've gone is a top end freshen up (it's still on original bore), but now it's all back together there is a problem with gear selection. I've tried everything I can (and I'm resonably mechanically minded) but it will not go into second or above. Clutch operation is also very very heavy. Im sure to solve both of these is very simple for someone who knows older Montesa e…

Hi, Will ask if any of you know if LB30-35 springs for Betor shocks are available, progressive like LB40-50. Have sent a question John Cane..who offered shocks bargin last year (~1500g lighter than Girling pair) seems to work ok as new. Let say Betor work/refilled ok for 2-3 seasons then it might be motivated to order Falcon ally and cut an other 1000g.. Special order from spring suppliers is always an option....:-) Cheers,
