I guess this is one of the reasons why folks are swopping aircooled mono's over to twin shocks!!!!! I wonder if it will sell at that price? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HONDA-TRIALS-RS250T-...=item1c0db9ae02

Before I go completely mental can anybody tell me how the clutch end of the outer cable locates on a '74 Cota, the one with the clutch arm underneath the casing. I can see nothing that will locate it anywhere. The parts book is typically useless for anything you ever want to look up, so is the Clymer manual. Where does it go? The parts book shows the inner cable nipple going into the swivel on the lever but no location point for the outer. It's that long since I dismantled the bike to rebuild it I cannot remember anything peculiar when I removed the old cable. Any ideas anyone?

Hello Everyone I suspect that some of you may have owned one of the above bikes at some stage (and now decided to go a bit slower) and I am hoping you may be able to help with a problem I am having. Bought the bike sight unseen and when I got it home discovered that all that was claimed in the ad was not factual, but that is my problem now. The bike starts with no trouble after a couple of kicks. When I go for a ride, 1st and 2nd gear no problems. If I increase the revs above approx 3000rpm the bike starts to splutter and run erratically. Just does not like high revs. Things I have had checked are coil -seems fine, swapped for another spare that I have - same prob…

Hi Folks, Just wondering what everyone is running for tires on their vintage trials bikes. I'm using Dunlops, but was wondering if there is a proper vintage tire out there.

  8. OK for those that dont know i do the report for the Peak Classic Trials Club for publishing in T&MX News and always post the same report here on Trials Central in the Trials Reviews forum. As i dont feel that forum is necessarily the best place for a debate i thought it prudent to reply to a members posting but i thought it best to do it here. Majdaz wrote. "Hi Paul, In respect to your well worded and much appreciated review of the recent Peak Classic July trial, I'd just like to ask why the win for Simon Foulke in the twinshock class was controversial. I agree parts such as the engine and front end are ty mono, but the rear portion of the bike is a standard twi…

Hi Just a thought has anyone on the forum ever done a front disc conversion on a 348/349/350 - I have seen a picture of one on a local SA auction site - Looks like they used a Japanese front end. It would upset the authenticty of the bike, but would certainly make long descents less hair raising than with std Montesa brakes. Ian

Hi, I am puting my Cota 200 back together and I need to know how much end float the gear shafts should have? And which end the shims should go? I am disregarding any shims I took out as it had been rebuilt by Neanderthal Man!! If anyone has an exploded diagram of the gearbox that would be good as I have made some educated guesses on how it goes!!!! Thanks Ian

Hi there! Can anyone please confirm how to fit a kill switch to Montesa 247 Cota. Is it just a case of connecting one of the wires to the lower terminal on the coil, i.e. the terminal with the blue wire attached, and the other wire to an earth on the frame or bars? This is what is stated in the Clymer manual for electronic type ignition but it doesn't mention how to fit switch for standard points type system. Jamieson

Hi there! I have recently completed a rebuild of a 1972 247 Cota. The bike is now running well and I even managed to resurrect my worn out Amal carb by replacing just about everything!! The only problem I have now, is that occasionally the kickstart slips when kicking the bike over. The engine was in good running condition when I got the bike, so apart from the top end, it has not been stripped. Before I start stripping the engine, I would appreciate anyone's thoughts on what causes this and the cure.
