Hi all , i have had a set of shocks on order from FALCON for SEVEN WEEKS !!!!! I am starting to get very peeved! anybody else had problems like this? Are they worth the wait!!!!!!!!!!???? Do i cancel my order???

I'm going to make modern trials footpegs for my Montesa Cota 348. I make them from 4 mm steel, using TIG. How long and wide they should be (without brackets)?

Well, I'm starting to reassemble the 348. Have a new piston in a freshly bored cylinder, got the cylinder and head on today. Now for the god-forsaken exhaust...... I struggled getting it off when dissassembling the engine, in fact, I couldn't remove the exhaust until I removed the clyinder first. Today, I forgot to position it in place between the frame and back wheel, and between the front frame downtubes, before installing the cylinder. Can a guy get it on by first removing the rear wheel and rear fender [ thus allowing room to manouver it fore and aft whilst getting the front pipe aligned and bolted up ]? I don't really want to have to remove the head / cylinder …

Having some issues getting my cota 247 to run, got a spark but no joy yet. Will be putting a new sparkplug in as soon as I can get to a shop (B8HS i believe, though its currently fitted with a BR6HS resistor plug), but in the meantime checking other issues, timing looks about right so thought i'd check the coil Its got a red HT lead motoplat and with a bit of searching found this site, (http://www.yankeetwin.com/motoplat.html) that states the resistance across it should measure between 7000-9000 ohms. Mine measures 12,150 every time. does this indicate that its snafu and i'll need to locate another?

Hi, anyone got a manual or know the ring gap and piston skirt to liner clearance as i have located an oversized piston (ebay) and its winging its way over to me. I have got the barrel mounted on my old van norman boring bar ready to go as soon as the piston gets here and i can give it a good measure up. The barrel was on its second bore and the piston was standard!!! and it had a fair old rattle to it, its amazing that someone would put an engine together like that. Cheers Dave

I have tried and tried, read the manual and studied the wiring diagram but I cannot work out how to check with a multimeter when the points open. In all the books it says to connect to the black lead on the coil and any ground point. Some also say to remove the condenser wire while doing this. I have removed the condenser ready to fix it up under the tank where the heat wont affect it so much? My continuity buzzer simply buzzes constantly trying to set the ohms at different values has no effect either It looks to me from the wiring diagram that the points are grounded through one of the generator coils. What am I missing? Thanks for any help on this. Alex

Have just seen brief mention of a Dartmoor 2 day trial which apparently runs in September. Does anyone have any further info? Would like to know if it's open to twinshocks, if it's relatively easy or severe, if it's all off-road or partly on-road (i.e. do bikes have to be road legal) and, if possible, the contact details of the Secretary of Meeting. I picked up a spare "parts bike" 348 last week. I'm trying to figure out the date of manufacture by the number stamped on the engine, but, the problem is, there is no 51M number [ or any markings here ] stamped on the case below the carb bowl, instead, the only numbers I can find on it are "1313" stamped on the cases at the rear mount / bolt boss. Otherwise, it sure LOOKS like a 348 engine....... Thoughts?

Wondering at what rpm the 348 makes it's power. In the manual, there is a graph that indicates speed vs rpm for each of the six gears, but no indication of the power band curve.

Well I have the crank seals on hand, and since I don't know when they may have been replaced last, I figure I may as well change them out. I'm waiting on getting the cylinder back from the machine shop sporting a new overbore piston anyway...... Since I've never replaced crank seals before I have a few questions please...... Is the counter flywheel [ on the clutch side ] nut reverse thread? ie; turn clockwise to loosen? Does the counter flywheel require a tool similar to the flywheel puller to remove? Next, remove the clutch basket? Now, pull the primary gear with a puller.......then remove the crank bearing cap and gasket........ OK, how does the seal come out, pr…

Did a search, still have a few questions please.......... I'm trying to clean the exhaust silencer on the 348. Tried the caustic soad soak x 24 hours......very little if any grunge came out. Still looks oily inside. What is inside a 348 silencer for packing? Thinking of trying a propane torch and burning any crud out. Seems others have cut through the silencer and replaced packing material.......but on a 348?? Not wanting to spend $200 plus on a new one at this time. Thoughts? Want to paint the exhaust system with high temp black paint following cleaning.

Hello Everybody I need some help to sort out my 348 Cota. I don't ride it that often but when I try to it will just not start unless I take the plug out, pour a bit of two stroke down the plug hole and then it will go revving its dinger off for about 30 seconds and will settle down to normal revs. Once it is warm it will start first kick every time. I suspect that it is sucking air in somewhere but have no idea where. It does not like choke to start and runs fine after it settles down. I replaced crank seals, rings, bearings, ect, ect, recently, points and timing are spot on, had the carb (Amal) reconditioned but just does not like a cold start. Any help much appr…
