General Trials Talk

General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

  1. Started by hoggyf,

Hope this doesn't upset anybody and being new to trialing I don't want to upset the apple cart but at the last trial i did (only my second) I finished and didn't come last, got a couple of cleans but my points total was 93 on the easy course, well chuffed with that. However, in joint first place on the easy course were 2 guys who only dropped 1 mark, my thoughts are that should they not be doing the harder course, shurely there not exactly taxing themselves if after 40 sections they've only "dabbed" once? The mate I go with who's infinately better than i am does the hard course and came 3rd from last (had a bad day) but say's he won't do the easy as it is just that - e…

Hey all, I read a lot about tyre pressures for trials being in the range of 3-5 psi for the rear and 5-6 for the front. Obviously this depends wildly on terrain, rider weight, skill. But my question today is when do you actually check these pressures? I know that if I was to put 4 psi in my rear in the shade, after a quick ride in the sun this becomes 5 psi. Am I looking at setting the pressure to say a pressure and then just expecting that it will go up? Or am I suppose to ride it around then come back and adjust tyre pressures to the correct values? I guess in essence I'm asking is the tyre pressure a cold or hot measurement? If a rider says he/she runs 4 psi in th…

So last weekend I road my first trials event and came in first place. I entered as a novice not knowing what to expect or where I would fit in. My score for the day was a 29 with 13 cleans on a nine section three loop course. On this day my nearest competitor scored around the mid 40's. Just wondering how you all determine when you should move up a class? I want to keep my self challenged but also don't want to end up coming in dead last all the time either.

1964 not accepted as an answer I am returning to trials after quite a long lay off and I have been to a few as a spectator lately to try to decide whether to go for a Twinshock or a pre65 machine when the thought came to me, when was the first pre65 trial? as a separate class to regular trials. I am sure I remember reading the the Trials and motocross news in the 1980's and seeing Pre 65's listed in Regs avaliable.

  5. It is a rare occasion these days to meet someone who hits that "Trials Lotto". What is this "Trials Lotto" I speak of? Well simply put it is when you have the opportunity to ride more or different things than you were able to with out overhauling your life. In this story it is something very similar for a good friend of mine ZippysGasGas... See not too long ago he moved into another house. He has been really busy working on it and around the property in general. A few months back he started talking about having a few trees dropped... Well we have all had a few trees and logs placed in the yard so I don't think any of us gave it too much thought on what he was trying to sa…

As soon as the new 4RT comes out, I’m in. Just wondering (UK) where the best place is to sell a (very nice, hardly any use, mint, 2016 4RT since you’re asking..) bike these days. Not angling for any PM’s to buy it by the way. Back in the day I used to use TMX but suspect it reaches less folk nowadays. Also sold a couple of older bikes on Car & Classic with no probs. I distrust that well known online auction site. Maybe the classifieds on this site? Don’t really want to trade in but equally don’t want potential bike thieves coming round. Thoughts?

Saw one somewhere, cant think where. It was a small plastic thing the size of a filter that splits in the middle to make removing your tank easier... No idea where to find one though. Anybody seen them/know where they can be bought?

  11. There is no chance of me getting new shoes for my Merlin so i'm going to have to reline them. The most cost effective solution is for me to reline them. Does anyone know where i can get 4mm lining from and whats the best glue available to Joe Blogs to stick it on. Cheers

ive been trawling the internet the last few days looking for places to buy service parts like brake pads, bearings, tyres etc etc. ive noticed that trialsuk are pretty keen on their prices, as are feetup trialsport. a guy that comes to my work mentioned JC Motorcycles in port talbot, and cant recommend them highly enough. they are also quite local to me. anywhere else that is good for getting some bits from? i will be honest, i like to shop around for the best prices.

Hi all. This may seem daft but I am about to have a gravel drive layed and don't really want be be washing my bike off on the drive as the gravel will end up full of mud and dirt. Don't want to do it in the back garden as that will end a muddy mess. Do any of you use the jetwash at a petrol station and if so do they ever complain? Any suggestions please Thanks fatty

I have to say i am paranoid about losing my car keys whilst out riding. Up to now they usually get left by the wheel of my car but looking at brightly coloured dry bags and lanyards. Any other suggestions or am i the only one that worries about this?

Where do you re-build yours? Every kitchen and living room should have one... (Thinks - must stop posting - behaving like a net.newbie that just discovered a BBS) http://John.Rushworth.com/pics/

I've recently found a problem with lack of braking power on the front of my Electric Motion. First, a little bit of background: I've had the bike for three years and this problem has just started. The front brake is a braktec monobloc. My normal procedure between trials is to abrade both pads and disc with wet'n'dry and clean with brake cleaner. Three trials ago I fitted new Galfer red pads. For the first trial they worked fine. At both of the next two I found that the braking power was very weak. Although it was something I had never done before, and was a bit sceptical about, I rode up and down a bit with the front brake on to heat it up, then sprayed it with water…
