All depends on how fat your wallet is :)

I've seen guys buy new tyres just because the ' edge' has gone off....I myself turn my tyre after the first edge has gone then probably let it go to half it's new thickness befor buying a new one (or when I have a few crap rides and I can blame the tyre :) )
