At 66 years old, Vojta Klecka from Stockholm, Sweden is one of the oldest competitors taking part in the 2012 Scottish Six Days Trial (SSDT) and is almost 50 years older than this year's youngest rider (Josh Atkinson, 17). Vojta rode in his first SSDT back in 1973 and since then has returned an astonishing 35 times. So, what is it about 'The Scottish' that makes Vojta keep coming back year after year? Overnight leader James Dabill - Beta held his nerve brilliantly to secure the win during a tense and close finish to the centenary edition of the Scottish Six Days Trial (SSDT). Riding at the front of the field Dabill lost marks as early as the second group at Upper Mamore to see his advantage reduced to just two marks and then saw things come far too close for comfort as he dropped a further dab at Leanachan. Holding just a one mark lead going into Ben Nevis, Dabill showed great composure by cleaning all six sections in what looked like a certain winning performance until he parted with another dab at Nevis Forest to leave him tied on the same marks overall as Alexz Wigg…

The 101st edition of the Scottish Six Days Trial (SSDT) is underway and is already set up for another enthralling week-long battle in the Highlands with five riders currently sharing the lead, each on zero marks, at the end of the opening day. Last year's winner James Dabill (Beta) is amongst three previous victors who are tied at the top of the leader board after a relatively easy first day for the front-runners. Having celebrated his 17th birthday only last month, Joshua Atkinson from Dronfield, Derbyshire (near Sheffield) is the youngest rider competing in the 2012 Scottish Six Days Trial (SSDT). This week Josh wears number '152' and sits just outside the top 250 after a tough opening day on his trusty 2011 Gas Gas 125cc machine. The college student is one of four riders representing Sheffield and Hallamshire Motor Club. Speaking at the beginning of the week, Josh told of how excited he was to be making his SSDT debut.

After yesterday's five-rider congestion at the top of the leader board, day two of the 2012 Scottish Six Days Trial (SSDT) has produced two clear front-runners in the form of Jordi Pascuet (JotaGas) and Dougie Lampkin (Gas Gas) who both remained clean for the second day in a row. Whilst today's route was both longer and tougher than yesterday, once again the riders reported that the sections had ridden easier than usual, even for the early runners. Dan Clark (Beta) and Chris Pearson (Sherco) were the only other two riders to remain clean today with Dan Thorpe (Gas Gas) being the next best on a single dab. When James Dabill’s - Beta name was read out as the winner of the 2011 Scottish Six Days Trial (SSDT) late last Saturday evening, his wide smile told the story. After enduring six days of highs and lows the current British trials champion took a moment to fully absorb the scale of his achievement, having claimed victory at the centenary edition of this legendary event. Those of you in Scotland will be only too aware of the Suzanne Pilley murder enquiry that is ongoing at the moment. For those of you who don't know, investigations have led police to Glen Croe and the Rest And Be Thankful on the A83, to the north west of Loch Lomond. They're appealing to any SSDT enthusiasts who may have been in the area on Wednesday 5th May....our route didn't go anywhere near there, but there will have been quite a few folk on the road during the week, so if you were anywhere near that area on the Wednesday, please take a couple of minutes to check out our article on www.ssdt.org. .....I'm WALKING it! In order to raise money for some very deserving Scottish charities a team of 4 of us are taking part in the RBS Caledonian Challenge walking 54 miles across SSDT territory in 20 hours. Setting off at midday we will carry on walking through the night, with the route taking us from the start about 10 miles north of Fort Willaim, down to Fort William, up Glen Nevis, down into Kinlochleven, up Pipeline, over the Devil's staircase, across Glencoe moor and all the way down to the banks on Loch Lomond. Good morning folks!

Well in todays paper they are thinking of moving the first Bank Holiday in May to October and calling it 'Trafalger Day' or 'UK Day'? I am sure this will have an impact for the SSDT? Some spectators make the first weekend a long weekend taking in the Pre'65 and the Monday's sections before heading South only using 1 days holiday entitlement. I am sure some riders with family holidays booked in the Summer are glad of the Bank Holiday as they save a day only using 4 days. I know with my work our entitlement is C**p so if it is moved other holidays may take preference over the SSDT, of course this year is an added bonus with the Royal Wedding so that might boost the numbe…
