  1. I have several hats and I take each one off to all who observe.

I haven't observed for a few years but intend to do so this year so I can appreciate how hard it is.

As a rider I'm a particularly generous observer, because its "just a bit of fun"

Re number boards totally agree, £8k bike and you can't afford a number board, shame on you, sort it out, you know who you are.

  2. Just saying....why not enter a trial?

You get to ride fantastic land, have a bit of banter with your mates (and complete strangers). Ok theres a structure to it but its still "just for fun".

If you fancy further afield Parkwood Offroad in West Yorks is a terrific place. Check their website.

  3. Leo Leo Leo.

Next time you stump up the time, the money and the expertise to put on an international event please let us know in your own charming way!

We are a niche sport, we live on a tiny island and the economy is down the toilet in  recession.

This is the first world trials event for several years here so please be a little more generous to a remarkable young man just doing his best.

(Full disclosure.. I've got green pants and a DL12)

  4. I'm a 63 year old luddite. We did woodwork at school. Computer studies was something they were just starting to do at NASA not in UK secondary moderns.

I appreciate Rabie for fessing up but I am now so confused.

I did press the button for help on the new site and got a standard acknowledgement but no actual reply to my enquiry.

Hopefully our governing body can produce an "heroic recovery" in the next 17 days!

  5. Ha Ha I've renewed mine and had a confirmation email from ACU.

    But haven't paid anything yet?

I think when I enter my first trial through Sport 1980 it'll ask for it then.

Trying to enter a trial in the new year and the old system says I don't have a license but will let me enter if I pay £5 for a one event license

I've emailed the ACU for help

The old system worked fine for this end user (paying customer). Progress eh?

  6. Hi

I had 2012 Berlingo swb, bike fits in no problem. Then had transit connect swb again no problem but nicer van to drive. 3 people in a van is a tight squeeze though unless two of them are kids.

I would buy a LWB Transit Connect if I was buying a small van again. Currenty running a VW T6 which is great but I've noticed none of these vans makes me ride any better.

  7. I'm no expert but I think they dropped the Ice Hell moniker back in16/17 so maybe you're right about the cliff. Really not sure on used prices as I've bought my last 2 new and the lurgy thing has affected supply and price of everything these last 2 years. I bought my last one from Camio and they had some very clean late models in stock when I was there.

  8. The kickstart gear can lose its first  tooth over time. This reduces the engagement and does not allow you to give the bike the required full kick. Its not a difficult repair but probably worth a trip to a dealer if you're not sure. Have a look in your gearbox oil when you change it,  you may find the missing tooth. If you do, don't bother putting it under your pillow. (Spoiler Alert) There are no such thing as fairies.

  9. At 62 and a regular trials rider I am on my 3rd Vertigo 250. I tried a 300 and liked it but the 250 has all the power I will ever need. I currently weigh about 14 stone and have the 2021 DL model. The improvements over the years with Vertigo have been minor but worthwhile. If you're closer to 20 stone and with a slow throttle a 300 might be ok. The DL 250 I have is very smooth so I would expect a similar power delivery on the DL 300.

My suggestion would be to up the budget and find a 20 or a 21 250 Vertigo DL model. Because

    "you're worth it"

  10. Hi

The R3 has only been out a few weeks so there won't be any used ones. The Vertigo website says the previous model R2 was their best seller ever. I have the R1 which I intend to swap for a new DL replica when they're available. Theres loads of them at trials now and a lot of people are on their 2nd 3rd and even 4th models. Trialtube gives a review of the R3 if you're looking for an opinion.

The only way to know is to buy one and run it for a year.

    Good Luck

  11. Surely a 200 Vertigo would be a more logical progression from a 4RT. I changed to a 250 Vertigo after 12 years of 4RT. I'm on my second Vertigo and seriously thinking about a new 200 this year as I've turned 60 and I think it may benefit me. I don't understand why any manufacturer still bothers with carbs on a trials bike (other than design and manufacturing cost). The Montesa is the best built trials bike available probably, but I would say the Vertigo is next and is a more forgiving ride if you're at the "Werthers Original" end of the age spectrum.

  12. I had a good demo ride on one earlier this year and I liked it. I have a 250 Vertigo at present. I'm seriously thinking about getting a 200 next year. I'm over 60 and my brain to throttle isn't  what it used to be (it was never that good anyway). With fuel injection on the 250 it pulls cleanly at very low revs in all  the first 4 gears in a section so my thinking is a 200 might just give me a little more grip when I use the throttle like a light switch. Think Vertigo uk might have a 200 demo unit for sale. Let us know how you go.

  13. oh eck crikey blimey. The trouble with getting old is you still see things as they were when you were younger. Slightly off topic here but I'm very encouraged by the levelling up of gender in trials these days which can only help with the superb example set by our multiworld champion EB (and yerself obviously). I think RevShed is a non gender specific term that may apply instead of mancave so sorry for my assumption.

I have been doing static balancing (bit boring) and cycling to maintain my two wheel addiction but I'm hoping someone smarter than me can come up with something else that's within the rules. Before I had a trials bike I used to set up sections in the garden and ride them on my push bike. Think I'll try that again for the first time in 46 years. Keep Smiling!

  14. I'm no sparky but the wiring to the man cave lighting looks very casual. Think a couple of clips might be of use. Good collection of precious treasures in there. Think we'll be on lockdown in uk this week so will be tidying the garage again this year. That's twice in 5 years now, think I'm suffering from OCD?

  15. Yes it can be a proper mudfest. Sometimes just parking is a challenge. With the current ACU advice of "don't ride your bike" I probably won't be there for a while. Hopefully there'll be some good news glimmers in the next few weeks and we can get back to throwing expensive lumps of metal down in the dirt again. Lets hope anyway.

  16. Ey oop yerself

I live in Rawdon and  use Swaine Woods for practice. You need to be a member of Horsforth Club to ride there. Send me a PM if you want a practice buddy. Not sure if its unnecessary travel as per gov guidelines but if theres no trials it'll soon become necessary travel.

    Regards

    Dave
