  1. I replaced my bashplate one with a H & D one. I've had it about 6 months. The delivery to the U.S. was prompt, and the plate fit well. However, the plate appears to be even softer than the stock one. It's very bent up, and I don't think I'm especially hard on it. My stocker held up better. It's thinker then stock, and it's supposed to be the new hardened one, but it's just not very strong. I will try a Mitani, or the KRC one next time. Just one man's opinion.
  2. Hi, another route to consider is replacing only the steel clutch plates with the dimpled ones from Jitsie. Cheaper than the Mitani route. It worked for me to point where I didn't feel I needed to change anything else. "The Jitsie steel clutch plates have a special design similar to the look of a golf ball. This improves the oil flow between the clutch plates, hence making the clutch a lot more progressive and easier to control. An absolute must have for the Montesa 4RT owners." Best regards!
  3. Hey Jason, what did you find out about the repair with GM parts?
  4. Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to improve the rear brake on the 4rt. It doesn't seem to be very strong. Thank you.
  5. Masso, on what do you base your statement?
  6. Hi, out here in the US, our importer Lewisport, assured me spares will be no problem for at least 10 years. Regards, Mike
  7. Hi, If the Beta 300 Race you are referring to is located in Northern Calif., it has been sold. It was my riding buddie's bike. I have ridden it, and I own a 4rt, so I can provide a bit of a comparsion. To me, the Montesa is softer and easier to control down low. The Beta has more power, but it wasn't really usuable for trials, at least for myself, I'm not an expert trials rider. Also, the Beta had some weird quirks...He seemed to have one heck of time starting it when hot. In fact, he broke of his kickstarter once. The rear tire rubbed badly on the back fender. It's a beautiful bike though. For me, the only 4 stroke I would buy is the Montesa. A 4 stroke engine is very expensive to rebuild or some cases, repair. If I have the added complexity and potential expense of a 4 stroke, I want it developed and produced by HRC. The durablity and reliability is second to none. I do know of a couple for sale out in Northern Ca.
  8. I'm 210 lbs and they helped the rear end ride higher, which in turn increased the steering response. The V-mar ones are aluminum and I have seen that after a LOT of use the holes get egg shaped. I bought some stainless steel ones from Lewisport, they're cheaper and more durable. They are milled out in the middle, and a bit thicker as well.
  9. I am not an industry insider. Just a trials rider who is a Montesa enthusiast. The info I posted is specific and detailed, not exactly the type of thing that is just made up. In fact, look at Big Johns post: "There has been no announcement about the 4RT as a continuing model and if reports are to be believed, there is a stock of some many hundreds of 4RT Montesa at the Spanish factory unsold at this moment in time. According to many Spanish websites, it would appear that the future of the Montesa factory is in doubt and there have been demonstrations by Montesa employees in Spain in the last week or so. Hope this answers your question? Big John " Amazingly consistent with my info isn't right? But where's the source, the proof? Yet no one calls him a "Sheet Stirrer" , "registered today purely to put Montesa down " "Rumormonger" . No one belittles him. Interesting. So go ahead, write my post off as rubbish, and slam my integrity. I have tried to provide fellow Montesa fans with specific, legit info, albeit not good news, firsthand, from one who just returned from Spain. In the big picture doesn't really matter what gets said here and what gets believed, it's not going to change the situation for Montesa. But if you really refuse to believe things are amiss for our beloved brand, perhaps you're the one who: "has a friend in the business, who gives me lots of inside information. He is unique, only I can see him and only I can hear his voice,he is a six foot tall rabbit....sometimes he tells me to KILL!" Shoot the messenger, bury your heads in the sand, and hold your breath for the new and technologically improved 2010 model, Brilliant!
  10. Wow, Andy, not feeling the love. You got it all wrong. I love Montesa. I own a 4rt. When I heard the rumors, I investigated, and this is what the facts are. I've been sad since hearing it, and thought other Montesa fans would like to hear the facts. If you choose not to believe it, that's certainly your right. But in time, you will see that it is, in fact, the truth. And I did just join today, because I wanted to share the info.
  11. Unfortunatly the future of montesa is not good-- the spanish factory is now only making plastics and painting-- the trials dept has now been moved to italy ( which is only the race dept) --all contracts are being honered for 2010 but for 2011 who knows!-- there is no more production and around 800 08/09 models left that will be sold this next year , but when there gone thats it!
