  1. Have found this article in an old issue of Moto Journal, scanned in OCR then used Google translation, which is literal and quite amusing, but you get the idea, bit like Todotrial. hope you find it interesting.

The pic is the third page as the others are mono and the pics are not good.

  2. A local bearing supplier should be able to supply the seals, just take the old ones along to get the size, Wyko (all over UK) are local to us and have never failed, also good for bearings(!) Generally cheaper than from a motorcycle supplier too. As long as you have a pattern they have sorted mountain bike bearings too, again much cheaper. Also old established motorfactors (who are not obsessed with part numbers) can often sort stuff out.

  3. Hi Mr Clean

Thank You, havn't really checked the weight, would probably gain more losing a few pounds myself.

For the seat I cut a sheet of plastic to shape, heated it in the oven, then moulded it over the bike, then fitted the standard mounts and cover.

The frame mods were done when I got the bike, one of a number imported long ago, I remember the story in TMX but cannot remember who done them, they also had betor shocks and decent tyres fitted.

Basically the rear lower cross frame tube is cut in half lengthways and a plate is welded along this to which the bash plate bolts, the down tube is cut diagonally just below the front motor mount, there is no lower mount, just rests on the bash plate.

By the way we have an Great Uncle in Steveson, Vancouver, small world etc.

Just seen a couple more questions!

    I have used

    Amal twist grip

    IMS CR80 gear lever

Miller modded footrests, but Yam TTR250 aftermarket pegs fit with no mods.

Stick with the 428 chain, go bigger and you have clearance issues on the gearbox and all the bits weight more anyway, Miller used 428.

  4. I've been using a TL 250 for a while now. It is lighter than it was but still pretty heavy and tiring in tight stuff, excellent on big hills and mud tho'

As you can see in the pic the lower frame rails are removed together with the rear loop, lower rear guard is thin alloy, seat base is plastic, lots of alloy bolts, but have kept the original pipe as according to Sammy Miller it works really well, but an alloy one would save huge amounts of weight.

Engine wise it is bored to 280 with XL250 head ( bigger valves) and XL250 flywheel ( heavier strangely )

Recently tried a Fantic for a while, much easier and lighter but not so much fun! I ride for fun so have sold the Fantic. Apologies to those who have seen the pic before but I love this bike!

  5. This is a reply to a PM from RMXBOY, my isp says he doesn't exist!!, but may be of interst to others anyway.

    Hi Jeff

    Thanks for the compliment.

Unfortunately the TL gears will meet the crank but if the XR gears are close

to the XLS ones I used they should be OK for trials as long as the final

gear is low, I think mine was 60 at the back and whatever the smallest that

    fitted at the front.

I shortened the cam ( about 10 cm's I think ) but the location tab for the

advance retard is in a different place. With carefull comparison I filed

another groove in the advance retard mechanism to put it where it should be.

You will need the TL primary cover as the brake lever will cause problems,

but I had to build up a little with plastic metal on the bottom left,

    obvious when you look.

You also need to grind a little frame away at the back and enlarge the bolt

    holes.

The key is to have plenty of bits to play around with, recon you are OK

there!, the XR was not available much over here so parts were not so common.

Finally spray it silver so it looks standard and amaze your mates.

    All the best

    Graeme

  6. Hi

I cannot find the contact details for the guy I bought the carb from, but if you do a search on ebay.com (the US one) for SL125 carb you may be lucky. The quality was good and it looked identical to the original exept for the name on the side (not dificult to remove) It fitted straight on so should be fine with your TL200.

  7. Thought you might find this pic interesting.

It is Clive Dobson (500t in the Talmag and Scottish) on the 4 stroke Gollner Kawasaki at Horsham clubs Presidents Cup at Plaistow early 80's.

I believe only one was made that started off as yellow then became red, apparently the engine wsa pretty standard KL with some KT ratios modified to fit, nice bike tho'.
