Haven't any experience with bantams, but I have fitted an external rotor electrex kit to a twinshock maico which made night and day difference in terms of starting and [especially of interest to trials use] smooth low speed running. I couldn't bring myself to fork out for the PVL, and very glad I didn't!
I see they do both internal and external rotor kits for the bantam but would think the external one would be the thing to go for. One more thing, I found the Electrex team to be really helpful in terms of what to buy and after sales, fitting and set up advice.They are definately worth a call.
Got a standard tr280 a couple of months ago [wanted a Fajardo replica but couldn't find one]. No doubt it's a fantastic tool!! Had a mont 4RT before so the weight was a revelation, but can't believe how easy it is to ride in general. Grip is phenomenal and it's SO-O-O-O easy to hop around....
Quality is every bit as good as the Montesa and there have been no issues to date [it will be worth spending a bit of money to buy high quality Torx keys -I suggest snap-on if there's a van near you]. One thing, if you get a new one, once it's run in, spend a little time making incremental adjustments to the fuel position sensor [opposite side of the throttle body to the throttle quadrant] to get the mixture just so-then it will run beautifully cleanly.
Is it worth the premium? Without a shadow of a doubt-I've already put my name down for a new factory replica [whenever it comes out]
I bought a new repsol mont from Pidcocks in Dec last year. They were very open about it being the 09/10 stock which was the last production run. They told me there will be no more made until the new bike is built [there is talk of up to 10kg weight saving, but difficult to see how without lots of VERY trick stuff [and can't see that being cheap].
Have to say lovely bike, beautifully built but WAY to heavy and my new Ossa is unbelievable....
Anyway if you hadn't seen it, the jist was I did wonder but had a mont before and it was about the same [and similar to a sherco I tried] but deffo not quite as good as a GG or Beta. However, wasn't an issue in the club trial I rode in on Sunday so we'll see. You can get a "racing" clamp from Ossa and also xclamps [both about £400 apparently-gulp...] and I've heard that you can take a little off the bottom triple clamp [don't fancy doing that] or even the edge of the tank [not keen on that idea either...] which can help. Think I'll see how we get on. Otherwise it is a wonderful thing and can't wait to see what the next Fajardo replica turns out like [think I'll put my name down now!!]

After a 4RT it's like riding a trials cycle :-)and it's the most confidence inspiring thing I've been on [tried just about everything before getting it] and for a 50 something getting back into it after a 25 yr abscence, that's a BIG factor.
So let's hear it for Ossa, can't wait to see how they develop it.

PS The Fajardo repica isn't a secret but they only made 100 for worldwide distribution and they're all long since sold [as I found out when I tried to get one...]so I don't think they bothered with any publicity. I think the interest in the next Fajardo rep [assuming they do one] will be much greater [i'll be putting my name down for sure!!!]
Without question everything is not rosey at ossa but ffs they finished the ssdt and (I am guessing here) emma bristow won the ladies event last weekend.

Maybe they have only just got the internet in cumbria but the pr in the uk is rubbish.

maybe the faults if there are any are so big they don't want to mention the bike at all but its a new bike its not going to be perfect and its streets ahead of the Sherco-greeves.

I just purchased a new rear fender and the glued on screen is coming off already, just like the original. This is a 2008 Rev 3. Can anyone recommend a glue or other fixing method?

I find Renthal grip glue is as good as anything for jobs like this [also excellent for loose sticker edges and the like]
Hi guys, yesterday I had problems with my engine, After a hard crash the bike go tsuck full throttle for about 5 seconds and shut off on its own. The engine wouldnt turn so today I took it apart and found a hole in the block and the piston broken. My question is from where should I buy OEM block / piston and can I convert it from 280 to 300?

Does any body have any experience with a showa shock ? I know that the Top trial team are using the showa shock and Tony Bou is also using the showa. I am not very impressed with the shock on the BETA evo 2009. I know they made some modification on the 2010 model.

I've a 2010 4RT with the standard Showa shock. What can I say-it's very supple and smooth over small stuff, lets me find all the grip that my abilities allow, can be hopped about if you like that kind of thing and I've yet to bottom it on a drop off.
I know it's probably not the same as Bou and co use but it seems great to me and if you can buy a new one which has been fine tuned to weight, riding style etc, I should imagine it would be just fine.
I've always found wulfsport gear [both motocross and trials] is excellent quality and sufficiently fashionable not to feel a complete Dork! [plus it comes in black to maintain anonymity....] Only place I'd really spend cash is boots. I started with Hebo boots but they ruined my feet so then I took the plunge and bought a pair of Alpine Stars "No Stop". Honestly worth every single penny [and they come in black too....]

Been running mine on either silkolene Pro 4T or the castrol the Pidcocks suppply [can't remember the name]in the motor and it seems very happy.
For the gearbox I use PJ1 two-stoke clutch tuner which, with CR125 "dimpled" metal plates [plenty of dealers sell these, got mine from BVM Moto for about
I'm a club rider in the North East and just wanted to say that I noticed recently that a rider was excluded from a local club trial for abusive behaviour to an observer. I thought at the time it was well done to the South Shields Club [if I remember rightly] for taking a strong stance and it is SO good to see that correct behaviour towards officials is being taken seriously at a high level.
As to the rider that was excluded, I don't know who he or she was, but I hope they've had the good grace to reflect on their behaviour and, at the very least, seek out the observer concerned and apologize before returning to riding again.
As to the club officials, once again well done [and also thank you for making it possible for me to embarass myself most Sundays].
Ive found a long crack in the rear brake backing plate on my '74 TY250. It seems to be full thickness crack. Can this be welded or do I source another 1?

Any decent welding firm will be able to TIG [must be TIG, mind] weld that for you. Will then be a simple matter of dressing the weld for cosmetic purposes. If you don't know of a local company, put welding services or precision engineers into Yell.com and make a few calls. Do NOT let your mate loose on it who says "No problem, I can easily gas weld that for you...."
If the crack goes through the pivot hole, make sure the bearing surface is aligned properly and be prepared to ream the hole slightly.
One more thing, might be easier to look at the ads in "Classic Dirt Bike" as I'm sure you'd find a replacement from one of the companies who advertise there.
Electrex World (www.electrexworld.co.uk) offers an electronic ignition conversion for the 348 / 349 Cotas (kit #STK-349). I'm interested in hearing from anyone who has made the conversion and can comment on the installation and subsequent performance.

Haven't used the Electrex conversion on a montesa trials, but have fitted one on my Maico 490 twinshock MX bike [well, everyone's got to have a secret summer life, haven't they...]and will say that quality is of high order, fitting straightforward and as mine was one of the first they'd done, Electrex were absolutely brill when it came to advice etc. Made a HUGE difference to starting the bike [could start it sitting down with left leg which, if you know anything about Maico starting habits...]and also ran lots smoother and cleaner low down [it may well have more "hit" but I've never been brave enough to find out!].
I would imagine that it might not be so dramatic on a Cota 348/9 but would be very surprised if it didn't make significant improvememnt.
So here I am around retirement age and last weekend I watched my first ever trial.
And not before time you may add.
Dashed enjoyable it was as well and now I rather fancy giving it a go.
I'm unsure whether to plump for an old twinshock bike or go for something more modern.
Pre 65 is not a consideration simply on cost.
I do prefer the look of twinshock bikes and it seems, in my limited experience perusing these forums, that
there may be more trials for these bikes for beginners.
I assume that twinshocks will be heavier than modern and spares will be more difficult although possibly bikes like Bultaco and Montesa may be a bit easier than others. No scientific analysis here simply a gut feeling on information I've come across.
