  1. Hi Shercoholic I've been using NGK PFR6B Platinum Plug in my 05 4T, easy to find, used in Suburu's! I change it maybe once a year after ~50 trials use, usually when i do the shims. RE500
  2. Dogma These are the Keihin PWK28 settings we use on the 05 4T's down here in the mud! Main 125 Pilot 50 Slide 3.0 Needle JJH clip second notch from top. Cheers RE500
  3. Dogma Once you have the cam cover off (05 model), re shimming the valves just takes a few minutes + the time to get the new shims posted to you! I do mine every ~6 months. There is a powerpoint presentation on servicing the 4T, well worth a look, its on the Sherco USA site. Good luck RE500
  4. I tried the Keihin RE, didn't like it, big flat spot in the middle just when you wanted it. Would like to know what jetting is in your carb and any other mod ? Didn't mount the ign module under the carb, and the new coil where the ign module was placed did you ? I did!! I'll try post a pic . Got nudged down the line RE 500, seen you lurking so I thought I would re post, would like to know any info on your carb. Cheers, ishy. Hi I was sent a new type Keihin with the small hose tail in the inlet stub, this connects by tube to a 'hot start' valve similar to the one supplied in the Sherco kit. Settings are: 50 Pilot 125 main ~ 1 1/4 out air screw depending on weather. Didn't write down the needle/slide code. Engine response is totally linear, no flat spots or jumps in power. Maybe JarvisSherco is lurking and will post his and Alans impressions of my 4T, especially grip compared to the 290! Will post rest of info after carb stripdown. Cheers RE500
  5. Hi Dixie, Yes, I guessed it was 'him', he does like a good storey, i'll have a chat with him on Sunday!. Glad your enjoying the Mont, maybe the Beta will be better than both...according to the bearded one. RE500
  6. Dixie, Nice rumour, but unfortunately not true! Never rebuilt the engine....let alone 7 times, did fit the replacement cam though! Not replaced the 'whole' ignition system, just fitted supplied kit a little differently than was suggested. Have changed the carb, fitted Keihin supplied from Paxau in Spain. Without a doubt this was the best mod of any, not just for starting. Many riders have tried mine from Youths upwards, all are able to start it hot/cold without issue, even after stalling or throwing it away! Cheers RE500

    4t Again

Dixie Mounted mine just above the cam chain tensioner. NO NEED to drill the frame! I used the head steady allen bolt and the cam chain top allen screw. Upside to this position is that it stays cool! Cheers RE500

    4t Cam

With the factory hot start kit, the operating lever is attached to the clutch master cylinder cover. So, just glance at the bars Cheers RE500

    4t Cam

Dixie I didn't receive any shims with my kit. I just used several from the original as required to get the end float correct. RE500
  10. Shercoholic I have received a 'full' kit. a. Coil/HT lead/cap. b. Kickstart lever, inc pivot/spline. c. New camshaft and decompressor, as an assembly. d. Hot start device/banjo bolt/cable/new clutch master cylinder top with integral hot start lever. Looks like a nicely engineered collection of parts. Got a trial today so no time to fit anything other than the kickstart. Cheers RE500
  11. Hi Lets hope the new kit sorts the starting out for everyone. Speaking of which, has anyone fitted the new replacement coil yet? Haven't fitted mine yet but seems rather large for the space!! Any pointers from those that have fitted it? Cheers RE500
  12. Shercoholic would these be the same 3.2T mods as advertisd in T&MX? Always interested in making the bike 'better'. PM me with details as well. I have spoken with someone who has received their kit, fair to say he was not massively impressed. RE 500
  13. I'd agree that in some situations they are not as easy to ride as a well setup 2stroke Also agree the 4RT for the most part starts easily..though not always. The Sherco is not as differcult to start as most people believe it just requires a different technique to starting a 2Stroke. If you've started an XT500 the Sherco4T should be easy RE500
  14. Having ridden one and watched the Sherco go up muddy sections I disagree with the grip thing...I would hate to own one where there's lots of muddy cambers...far too sharp for my liking <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Having riden the bike for 6 months in the mudddy south of England can't say finding grip has been a problem, camber or not! Perhaps its the rider RE500
  15. Hi Had my Sherco 4T since June, have ridden a trial most weekends. Replaced one thermostat. Changed Oil every 4 trials. Since i modified the carb' the bike starts fine hot or cold, no different to any two stoke. No special procedere except NO throttle and use hot start lever. Can be an absolute bitch to start if turned upside down as fuel poors into aibox or engine...best not to crash! Keihin carb helps sort this i believe. Clutch is the best i've used, coupled with a silky smooth bottom end the bike finds grip where most others don't. RE500
