  1. That was great! i could not understand a word but that did not matter. looked a slippy trial. Thanks for posting on here. Steve.
  2. I have 14.5 inch falcons on my gripper, steel bodys, had them for years now. Steve.
  3. I use tube type IRC tyres on my ossa i have just put a new one on, my last one had a date mark 2006 i new it had been on a long time. I only noticed it not gripping as well this year in the dry (gone hard with age) ive had my moneys worth! if you want to reduce unsprung weight i would look at an alloy axle and shocks Steve.
  4. VERY VERY good !! just shows the bikes change over the years but they still need skill and stamina to be ridden up and over the moors and sections.

    Gripper 350 Engine

Woodys advise is very good, but i have rebuilt my motor two or three times over the years. I bought the ossa clymer manual for the MAR and followed that (even tells you what gas mark for the oven to get the bearings out of the crank cases) clean the cases up first though cos the kitchen will smell bad!!!!! take your time and photos can help. i bought a set of cheap pullers and modified the ends to get the sleeve off the end of the crank, works well but they are always tight. good luck have a go you can always ask for help. steve.
  7. we have just been away with our touring caravan, nose weight was about right and towed great but when the van pitches back and forth through bumps etc the cars suspension and tow ball get a lot more hammer than when i have my bike on the rack. i also have rubber spring assisters on the rear car shocks.
  8. I had two air cooled mono yams, i would say they are the best allround bike but my favourite bike i had was a 247 fantic. if i was wanting an air cooled bike my heart would say the fantic but my head would say yam 250 mono. the best bike is a balance between what you like the look of and what you can get the best out of it, thats why i ride my ossa gripper. steve.
  9. Hi Robin, How did Adam do? Great ride by Davy! Steve,
  10. OTF, i would say Peak classic trials venues are hard to compare with the pre 65 scottish sections plus Davy has ridden in the ssdt for years as well as the pre 65, I hope he has kept his feet on the pegs today too. If he can win his dad will be very proud! Steve,
  11. There could be a number of reasons for the lack of go, If i retard my ignition my ossa goes as flat as a pancake, mine is a gripper but i think top dead centre is the same (2.3mm before TDC from memory) could be airfilter not able to breath, wrong size sprockets, chain too tight, carb worn. may even have a thick head gasket, mine is 1mm i think you can buy up to 4mm. brakes, new shoes and shims should make them work you wont be locking the front end up though. forks, old saggy springs? too heavy oil? 7 to 10 wt. could the fork leg clamp at the spindle be set wrong. Bad crome? All the above except forks are cheep easy and easy to fix. Steve.
  12. Ive had my ossa gripper for 20 years ish it has been thrashed with me and i have to say it is the most reliable bike i have ever had! Get to know its advantages by riding it and you wont regret buying it Steve.
  13. dry air, i dont notice any differance in the way they work when they are warm.
  14. Ive had falcons (steel body) on my ossa gripper for years, pos 14 years. They have had some stick over the years. I can rebuild them myself when needed. The only mod i have done is drilled another hole in the rebound side of the damper piston and now run 7.5 wt oil and 65psi air. The people that have ridden my bike say it is about the closest to a mono they have tried. I would have another pair if needed. Steve.
  15. never thought to look on e by might have to treet bike to a new part, thanks. steve
  16. 36mm across flats, bigger than anything i have, i use hammer and chisel method
  17. look at fantic page on here under what fantic. i had a k roo like this in 1991 (blue & yellow) mine was a 250cc good powerfull bike. The only problem i had was when it got very hot it spat coolant out of the water expansion tank and i had to top it up. Radiater was in the frame under the fuel tank. steve.
  18. Take note of Peter Barber in this years Pre 65 Scottish, he is riding a very standard looking Greeves (steel rims, bannana front forks?,etc) He is not there to win but is there for the challange. He did ok in the last Peak classic trial on the intermidiate route. Steve.
  19. And if there was a world trials championship for the over 70s peter gaunt would be champion!
  20. John's BSA Exhaust is a work of art in itself , after exiting the cylinder it turns left and goes right around the cylinder and enters the back of the silencer above (i believe ) where the tailpipe exits. Johns bikes are always beautifully turned out and are ridden hard , In pre 70 events around the country. Does John still ride his triumph twin? I have always admired the way he rode it, the sound always made me smile Steve.
  21. I had a couple of yam ty monos the last one was in 1988 white frame one, i improved the front brake with a cable that the outer went right down to the brake plate. then i bought a yz125 brake plate with the arm on the outside, that was a big improvement. Then i bought a new wheel with a disc brake thinking it was the latest thing and just had to be the best.It was rubbish! No power or feel, the yz125 plate was the best.
  22. Monoshock Ossa,I could unbolt one of the shocks on the gripper for next Sundays trial.
  23. Paul, i will try to sort out a kill switch for my bike. I think for the clubs saftey angle if the rule is there the club is covered. thanks Steve.
  24. Im puzzled to find a problem with what Paul has done here, he has put a new class in so whatever type of classic bike you come with you can ride it in a class to suite your bike. Peak classic trials are always fun to ride, fellow riders are a good bunch too. Some have modified bikes some dont, its there choice what they do to there bike. now there is a class for everyone. looking at the rules my only problem is i have never had a engine kill button on my Ossa and i have ridden it for 22 years, (never needed it) anyone know how to fit one? Steve.
