  1. Hi I want to replace the fork oil on a 2006 250 pro, ( black forks / presumably ally ), is there a definative start to finish guide, i have searched on this forum and there seems to be different views especially on the amount of oil etc. Any help / opinions are appreciated.
  2. Hi Best to do a search on bleeding rear brakes, they can be a pain to bleed but there's plenty of ideas on this forum that will help. Good luck.

    2006 250pro

Hi Has anyone got any ideal ( initial ) settings for the front forks. There appears to be quite a few different views on the quantity of gearbox oil to use. I've always used dexron3 and am initially going to use 450mils, any help would be great. Had one ride on the 250 Pro and i'm very happy with her!! if only she was blonde!!!!
  5. Hi Thanks for the reply, i removed the shock and it was easy to turn when it was of the bike, so i have set it to 18 clicks out and set the spring to 120mm length as suggested on this forum. thanks again

    250pro 2006

Hi all Just traded in and have now a 2006 250pro, checking her over as you do!! and on my rear shock adjustment (Gold Ohlin) she appeared to be fully wound in, but then she only unwound / came out approx 10 clicks before unwinding easily with no clicks. Have i got a problem? I've read the related forum and the average i think was 40 clicks total range and to set it 18 to 20 clicks out!! When the adjuster is wound fully in how much of a gap should there be between the top of the black knob adjuster and the bottom of the spring cup (hard to explain), is it possible that it's full of crap and wasn't wound in fully? i've tried forcing it i.e. winding it in and am only getting about 10 clicks back out before again turning freely. The rear does seem to be responding i.e softer / harder. Sorry for the long winded plea for help, but i need to know if i should take her back to the dealer. regards dave
  7. Hi all I had a trial today and i'm having problems with my front brakes always spongy even when well bled (well practiced), i was wondering if the problem is with my front brake master cylinder/resevoir is there a repair kit or method of cleaning the resevoir. thanks in advance.
  8. Hi all Purchased new sprockets and an o-ring chain, my original front sprocket was 10 teeth and the shop has supplied me with 11 teeth, what difference will it make to the bike, or should i take it back and get the same size 10 teeth, any help would be great.
  9. thanks for the reply, does the rear brake pedal need to be wired open or can you leave it as it is?
  10. hi all I took calipers apart to clean and then bleed, front all done ok, but the rear has been a bitch to bleed and i've just noticed that there's air/oil leeking from around one of the pistons, are there any good tips for replacing seals / bleeding the rear? Do i have to replace the seal? any tricks around it as i am pushed for time as i have my first trial in two days. And do you get new pistons in a repair kit? Thanks in advance.
  11. hi all i have a 2002 txt 280 standard for about 3 weeks. Still catching up on maintenance needed, and have attacked the rear suspension tonight and have found and not to my suprise everything dry as a bone!!! I've found an adjustment setting on the bottom of the shock that had been facing the engine and i didn't know it was there until i spun it around!! and i presume that it should face to the rear for adjustment? is this the rebound? My problem is the gold annodized rocker arms!! when i've spun the shock around they have reversed from the original position i.e dog bone to swing arm connectors, does this matter? or is there only one way to install them? Sorry for the book like question!! Thanks for everones help so far, this forum is a big help and appreciated.
  12. 250 size and up montesa from 2004 on, cheers
  13. hi been impressed with a 2002 txt 280 standard, and i'm thinking of trading it in for a newer model, do i go for a gas gas pro or is a montesa a better machine. Obviously the wrong forum to ask the question!! but some honest views would be great.

    Txt 280 2002

I have moved this post from a previous one due to a different problem. Checked my bike tonight and the 280 2002 txt standard is fine going up the gears but coming back down hits a false neutral between 6th and 5th gear, not really a problem for me, but what are the possible causes and could it escalate to further problems ? Are there other known problems with this bike that i need to look for? I am so far very happy and impressed with it

  16. Just getting down to some maintenance, and i've noticed that the rear wheel isn't central between the swing/arm, are the snail cams accurate?i've also noticed that the tyre has been hitting the rear pipe! Also is there an idiots guide to setting chain tension? - with trials and not MX we seem to be spoilt with having a chain tensioner!
  17. hi I've only had my 2002 280txt standard for about 2 weeks, and i've noticed that i also hit a neutral the same. When i'm riding and also when i checked the bike over stationary before purchasing. (probably not a problem at the moment for me as a novice).
  18. Is the oil level half way up the sight glass, if so only 450ml went in!! Would riding it for a short while make a difference to oil changes?
  19. hi thanks for the reply its the TXT edition

    2002 280 Txt

Hi I purchased a txt 280 last week and had a couple of sessions, now i'm getting down to some maintenance, thanks to the forum i'm putting in some ATF dexron111, approx 450ml has gone in to the oil level sight glass, however i have measured the oil that i removed and it amounts to 720ml !!. Previously With the engine running i had difficulty in selecting neutral and had presumed it was a worn clutch, i have now tried it with 450ml and its going into neutral ok. My worry is how long the muppet i had brought it from had used the gas gas and does anyone think it would have caused any damage?. The idle also now seems lower !!!
  21. Hi Thanks for all the info, it's a txt model with adjusters as you described. However both adjusters have been turned fully out, can you let me know how many settings there are and what would be a good starting point ? (I'm 12 stone ex MXer but only novice at trials). Sorry for so many questions but my front brake was crap, so i've bled them and found two slightly seized pistons (wheel side). The brakes are now slightly better, but i would like to strip the caliper, is it ok to take the two halves of the caliper apart? Thanks for everyones help dave
  22. Hi Is there such a thing as a owners or workshop manual for the gas gas. For instance there are adjusters on top of the forks, (ideal settings) etc. And others for the novice, tyre pressures, oil mix ratio and it seems that Castrol tts is popular? Any help would be great. Found a good site today http://www.trialstrainingcenter.com/html/how_to_ride.html cheers
