  1. From memory, the only time these bikes were really noisy was when the weld broke on the main pipe next to the barrel, seem to remember it was a regular fault. They also required regular repacking of the silencer as oil up quickly, hope this helps.

  2. To be honest its a no brainer, go for the Beta the reason why everyone one rides them is that its really the only 80,just look at the nationals. The Gasser looks the part but the engine seems rubbishin comparison to the beta. The beta is relatively bomb proof, if you get newer than a 2008 you also get improved suspension. However with the exception of that here is little difference from 03 to today. We are scarborough members and had 4 from 2004 to 2007 and can't really fault them and any problems Lampkins soon helped out

  3. Yes sorry I have to agree with all said before. Not a Championship trial and defintely not worth the time, money and effort getting there, and that was the rider not the parent saying that. Trials at this level should have sections to attack and not be the minute you make one mistake the day is over!

  4. We have an ohlins on our 09 Gas Gas 125, and previously on a Sherco 125. For us it is worth it as we can get various springs to suit the correct weight of the rider as he grows. They appear to be more progressive and easy to set definitely better than the Sherco Olle but cannot comment on the Sachs as we have never used it. They seem to wear very well and are fully rebuildable and so far 2 years down the line we have no complaints they can also be altered for a cost to fit different bikes.

  5. it depends what you mean by uprated. the 2 alternatives were a longer standard shock or a recon rev3 shock which did require a little bit of modifiction to the swinging arm to fit. it depends on how heavy the kid and what the limitation is of the present shock. both types were available direct from Lampkins though neither way especially cheap. the longer shock gave more travel , but the rev3 gave more adjustment providing the kid was both heavy and tall enough as the seat height rose a lot. Hope this helps.

  6. from memory both jobs are relatively easy, especially fork seals. the easiest place to get both seals are from Lampkins as i remember the fork seals are slightly unusual either 10 or 11mm thick although you can get away with a thinner standard seal, but lampkins are reasonably priced anyway

  7. C&D nationals are generally quite reasonable but bear in mind that generally the top kids in each class in the UK take part so there must be some sections to take marks of them. Generally there is a mix of harder and easier sections , something for everyone with a reasonable ability. No minders on bikes and generally the course takes account of this but not always where A&B is concerned. Scarborough 2 day and Ymsa 3 day are great youth trials and are an indication of national standards. Have a good time and don't stress generally only the parents are worried!!!

  8. hi we too have an 09 gasser and it starts well. The only thing is it is very different to sherco and betas we have had that the gasser needs a very 'sharp' kick. push down gently to find compression then kick down sharply. I have been told to be careful with the kickstart mechanisms as they don't like continuous kicking. Hope this helps

  9. I think a lot of the 05 sherco 80,s were in fact a 100cc unless the barrel was changed. In my opinion the Beta is a much better bike for kids unless very big as the beta is much smaller and lighter. The beta engines are bomb proof and the cycle parts pretty reliable. I am somewhat bias as we have had an 04,06 and 07 beta 80., despite having test ridden a sherco each year. I think you only have to look at the national results to see how few shercos there are as to which bike the kids prefer. We are also Eboracum members and if you are interested have both an 06 and 07 beta for sale cheers
