  1.  Very nice Stuart you will have to be sure to keep us abreast of your projects.

Today my buddy brought me a  m166 Alpina cylinder (std bore ) that we shall attempt to machine

to m199 dimensions as close as possible (Alp 64mm stroke). It looks like it will work.

The m125 project goes on, a new surprise today; the primary case is damaged and will leak, so clean

and sand and clean again, now some glass cloth and resin, should have that taken care of.

New shocks arrived and installed so now all we like is finishing up! Forgot to post this photo of a m159 style

glass tank and wonder if any can tell where it might have originated, please note filler.

    Thanks

    Have a nice day

  2. Paul, good thinking from your friend!!

We tend to get all wound up in helping and tend to not see the obvious!

You count 6 eared plates? You must then have maybe 7 others?

Question is   irrelevant as it is now satisfactory.

Fuel consumption is something , I have only experience with Sherpa T, but have seen a marked

improvement when changing the Bing for another brand.

    Larry

  3. Paul, I have no experience with Frontera's!!

The reason I (and others) use 4 Barnett's is due to the thickness of the clutch pack, Sherpa T's clutch

basket & engagement of the pressure plate on clutch hub dictates how thick the pack can be.

We get by with 4 springs quite nicely, the main problem I have seen with a light clutch has been with

slippage when kick starting , no slippage when going to 4th which is a big jump from 3rd in my experience.

As for levers the stock Amal's are very good other brands leverage not so good .

    My preference only; Dexron ATF.

Be sure 1st plate in; earless. Pin type require shimming as you cant match the original pack thickness, had

good results on four Sherpa Ts using 4 Barnetts.

  4. Here is  the latest fixer upper to come through the door, just mostly cosmetic

as it was here a year ago .( Not running at the time)

Carb change for you know what I like; it had all new points & condenser,( ran terrible),

nice new remote auto condenser sorted it.

The top of the tank in front of the filler looks like an alligator!

  5. Larry, glad to see your back and going again.

Cant give you any help on brush painting as I gave up on that because I couldn't brush anything period!!

I generally powder coat as I cant get a frame ready to paint, but if I did paint it would have to be sprayed

    in some manner.

    Good luck

  6. Dave , replacing the steel clutch in your Alpina @ the mentioned price , for me would be a no go IMHO.

You only need 4 of the friction plates and these are usually available on internet @ far less.

The setup for the modern plates can be worrisome with the pin clutch setup I would gather you have. (no adjustment)

    other than shimming.

You can achieve a 1 finger clutch buy the above method & 4 springs as the 175 shouldn't be as finicky as what a 325

is, so if you want a lighter clutch, give it a go.

    Good luck

  7. I would think Rod is very right on the bike right down to the tape on the down tube.

"Works Bultaco" speaks volumes as to the front forks .

Tank & air box appear to be a sign of things to come.

    Good go

  8. Strange yokes,re. two clamp bolts on top, single on lower?? Alpina front end??

Cant see enough of the frame, but by the tank separate from seat & shape says (to me),

M158 or later. " New bike at the time" ?

Not up on what alloy tanks for European, but paint not std Bultaco.

Front end mystery?? I am completely in the dark as to the rider, but I know someone will know!

     Derek thanks for the contribution.

  9.  Due to all my messing about with pipes and whatever  I needed to come up with an air box/carb hose

that would get around a M92 style frame re. down tube/straight intake manifold.

My good friend @ the auto parts store took the time to find this hose for me.

  11. I worried that the work on the pipe went a little too well, so when the rear pipe and spark arrestor/ silencer

arrived I borrowed a M92 to ensure all fit as planned.

Well best laid plans usually go south (as usual for me)

    Didn't fit, don't know what it's for???

    That's better

  12. It most certainly is not main seals, you have cleaned the carb and as above stated. I find WD 40 or similar thru the

pilot circuit will leave a clear trail into the venturi to ensure visual clear passage.

If you have not added/replaced the Femsa condenser with a remote under the tank I would encourage you to do so.

Many have success with that carb.

    Good luck

  13. Just for talking purposes only 40 or 50 pilot, 100 main is what we have found

    for the Bultacos'.

Maybe a starting place, I am sure there are those closer to you with more expertise.

  14. Nicky, I have no patience with Amals , for me Mikuni , the only problem is jetting.

The carbs we get from the largest supplier come std. with a 60 pilot / 190 main

on the 26mm , this is very safe as I have yet to see that combination work ( way rich=safe).

Hopefully Inmotion has a good jet combination.

    Good Luck

  15. Hello from summertime in Oklahoma. About 98 deg F.

Its a little too warm for anything serious, lust a little Mikuni tuning

using my son for a tester outer of Dads messing about.

  16. Stuart, my best luck with seals; removal can be facilitated with a bit of heat and careful levering

and soft alloy to lever against so as not to harm the slider,( I don't own a proper seal puller ).

1 seal per leg 35x47x10, I like to cut the female end of the seal spring by about 1/4 inch to ensure

better sealing, (not my idea but it sure works).

    Good Luck

  17. Look to a new NGKbp5es, or Iridium plug , also in one instance we had a 2003 Edition where the

fan motor was against the plug terminal very heavy, bike would need a new plug in 4 hours almost

to the minute, gained some clearance and no more problem.

Since you have two; you can have a process of elimination.

    Good luck
