  1. post-14329-0-39574800-1429819198_thumb.jpgJust messing about in the shop and remembered a thing or two

that might be of interest to the fellows.

    Ignition waterproofing perhaps.

One way is to use the easily obtainable OEM rubber gizmo and RTV sealer,

a piece 1/4 copper tube and fuel line to house the hot & ground.

The other is custom and I sent 5 to 1974 SSDT in hopes they would get back

to the factory, never heard from again.

    Have a nice day

  2. By the way made a brief search to try to learn more about Rockshocks

not smart enough to find anything.

    A link would be appreciated.

Would certainly like to broaden my small mind on any new improvements.

  3. Not knowing much at all about MAR's I wanted to show what this particular job entailed.
I am certain that it may not be of any help to all, but maybe someone will benefit from
    this small task.

As received said sprocket had 4 holes @ .404 & a bore to match wheel, that said I was
wondering if in fact the later MAR's used shoulder bolts to attach said sprocket??

Anyway set up on mill & carefully bored to .591 (15mm locating lugs), alls well now.

    Thank you

    Larry

  4. To all I apologize for only wishing the Fox shocks were still available.

No knowledge of Rockshocks, and am certain they are very good.

    No offense intended.

All American made and re-buildable, just did these this past week.

New in 1980 at $100.00, guess that would be costly now!

We have had good luck with NJB.

  6. Vic, the best bet would be to cut out the two pipes on the clubfoot and weld in

a single outlet to accommodate an after market approved spark arrestor.

With the reverse flow of the clubfoot , never seen any sparks, unlike the straight

    thru of modern bikes.

  7. Glad to see you got the Miller running, I'm sure it was not a problem, they generally  just run with little

    help.

Have never had to replace the seals, just clean the carb and maybe run a business card thru the points.

I see a 92 front end & 159 tank, I cant see if the top/down tube gusset has been modified, probably has,

ours is serial number 29x. (broken & repaired)post-14329-0-53072600-1429541743_thumb.jpg

Keep up the good work & remember brake on the left!!!

  8. post-14329-0-84673700-1429481442_thumb.jpgYeah, that's probably why I have a new left hip and my back is really bad today, could hardly

    sit still in church.

Seems like every time I got off badly it was on that side go figure.

The bike nearly always survived unscathed. O well the bike is still pretty straight.

we got up anything with the OEM Dunlops, and then the Perilli MT 13 that was so much

better in the day, I just sent an OEM Dunlop home with Saw Miller (Tripp) and he didn't

think that would be the hot set up(thought it had to much air, but had none)!!

Have a good day & keep them dirty!

Did you make it the next time, with a little more run?

Don't know this guy but he is flying!!

    Larry

PS That is a bunch of air for a Pursang , don't know what the landing

was like but I'm sure it was OK!!!!

  11. Bondy, that box looks like new!!!

Have not seen an original plastic box in that condition since new.

If it were mine I would probably use the new filter/hose as the boxes tended to

break out at the screw holes in front,& needed more support on the inside top

to spread the load on the attach points.

The filter replacement as original was a REAL B***H also.

I still use mine because it is sound (money to tight for new) & it sits a lot now.

    Thanks

managed to tear old Red apart to get to the air box properly.

Was quite relieved to find the hose all in one piece, as it had been years

since having put a new one on (shame on me).On a brighter note my good friend

received 2 new hose/filters (back order) and on careful examination found them

to be OK!!! Same mfg. as the previous of course.

Do hope you guys will contribute too

  13. Graham, I totally agree, the packaging should tell the tale, I would like to know who & where our poor ones

are made so we could get better quality.

The whole gist of this is to advise  that we have had a serious problem that you cant see unless inspected as

outlined, not trying to shoot anybody in the foot!

I have not taken my own air box out yet (not in a loooog time) so I will certainly report on my findings.

    Good Luck to All

    Larry

Bondy, please take a good picture of your new filter packaging in detail.  Thanks

A good time was had by all & nothing broken.

Will try to get out again before I get to old.

  15. I was just wondering how much did the original Banana weigh? Clubfoot about 5 or so maybe? Could weigh one (lazy) if needed.

I guess the clubfoot came along to incorporate our "spark arrestor" requirements? (really quiet). Mod 150& on, although have seen 1 or

    so that weren't stamped.

    Larry

  16. Tony & Bondy. It would certainly be nice to have at the very least for whoever is mfg these had a liitle more quality control!!!

We are getting our filter assy. in the states, however they are (by the packaging) from overseas.

The new one above came yesterday & the dealer was notified (sealed package) of the problem.

Hopefully he will give feed back to his supplier.

    Larry

    Tony thanks for the link.

This arrived today so much for speedy mail; David is in Amarillo, Texas.

This information is to try to help others , as 3 years ago we lost a fresh engine due to a split hose in a very dry West Texas event.

Our new one only had a pin hole in the aforementioned mold line, but not taking any chances!

    Larry

  18. The photos you show from events are really good!!

We were 6 of us out riding in the nice terrain near me (30+ miles) really as easy or tough as you want.

We had a friend from Georgia ( Tripp/saw miller) come to see us and we wanted to show him the country

nearby and get the bikes dirty.

I might add it was my first ride in 6mo & was pleasantly surprised I could walk the next day.

    More silliness to come.

    Larry

  19. Well I apologize for the " garage queen comment " my son reminded me of how few pictures we have taken over the years.

The " Action Shots " thread prompted me to take pictures. What with the good cell phones we all carry these days we can

easily save our memories, even if we sometimes cut off heads.

    Please share if you can.
