You're right Mac. I replaced my black 96 JTR tank with a clear 97 JTX tank so I could see the fuel level. Then from 98 until recently tank was aluminium.
Although the reed block is different I'm pretty certain the reeds are the same. Don't Boyesens come in a blister pack? Can't you lay one of your present reeds on top of the pack to compare them without opening it?
Nobody's trying to push air downhill; the fluid finds it's way down the hose and any air comes to the top given a little time - hence the cup of tea! I've never found it necessary to prime the master cylinder, but I guess if you're in a hurry it could be a good idea.
Loosen the brake hose from the master cylinder whilst its still fixed to the handlebars, then remove the master cylinder and unscrew it from the hose making sure the hose remains upright and full of brake fluid. Reverse the process to install the new master cylinder onto the hose and then the handlebars, and tighten the hose. Remove the cap from the master cylinder and fill with Dot 4 brake fluid. Turn handlebars to full left hand lock so brake master cylinder is at highest point of the brake hose and make yourself a cup of tea. Return to the bike and gently and slowly squeeze the brake lever several times, just a small amount (it doesn't have to go back to the bars) and if you look at the bottom of the reservoir you should see tiny bubbles appear. Repeat until the bubbles cease and the lever is firm. Top up reservoir if necessary, replace cap and go ride!
Thanks. Congratulations to Ross; nice way to round off what has been a very successful year for him. Looks like Three Shires put on a good event, like they always do.
When riding on smooth surfaces such as roads the floats can stick and not allow fuel into the float chamber; this would explain why you have a problem on the road but not off road. Make sure the floats are really free on the pins inside the float bowl.
Curious to know how you think Barry may be able to help you? Barry doesn't possess the same skills, knowledge or expertise as his father. If you post a photo of your bike it's much more likely that someone else from Hubbo's circle of friends, customers and contemporaries will have the information you require.
For those of you who still worry about such things how about this for the perfect Valentine's Day treat? A romantic night in with the Barcelona Indoor on Motors TV from 9 o'clock!
The 1969 Stautory Instrument has not changed, our sport hasn't changed; the MSA's interpretation of one or both has changed and this needs to be challenged vigourously, in court if necessary.
If you look at the 1969 Statutory Instrument (pasted below) specifically with regards to events that are pre-authorised, or to put it another way, exempt for requiring authorisation, was it ever the intention for observed trials that venture onto the public highway to be caught by this legislation?
Authorisation of certain events
5. Any event of one of the following descriptions, that is to say:—
(a)an event in which the total number of vehicles driven by the competitors does not exceed 12, being an event no part of which takes place within 8 days of any part of any other event in which the total number of vehicles driven by the competitors does not exceed 12 and where either the other event has the same promoter or the promoters of both events are members of the same club in connection with which the events are promoted;
(b)an event in which no merit is attached to completing the event with the lowest mileage and in which, as respects such part of the event as is held on a public highway, there are no performance tests and no route and competitors are not timed or required to visit the same places; except that they may be required to finish at the same place by a specified time;
(d)an event in which all the competitors are members of the armed forces of the Crown and which is designed solely for the purposes of their service training;
I think they're probably the same but you can check part numbers for compatibility by looking at the part lists for the various models at http://www.gasgasmotos.es/es/trial.html
Never knew you preferred no stop trials so much you'd resort to buying a twin-shock Malc. Can't you find anything bigger? An 80 is bound to cramp your style!
I had the soles on a pair of Gaernes replaced by a local cobbler; he told me mine were the first and last pair he'd ever tackle! Apparently it took ages to grind the old soles off mainly because the process filled the shop with so much smoke the fire alarm kept going off. He did do a good job, but the new soles could've done with some little screws or something else to secure them at the front edge because they started peeling off and would never stick back down for long.
If you follow this link http://www.cambstrialscentre.com/sparepartsaccesories.htm and scroll down the page you'll find a CNC aluminium adapter to fit the back of a Dellorto so that it mates properly with the Gas Gas airbox boot that's designed for a Keihin. Standard the Dellorto comes with a rubber version of this adapter and it sounds like you don't have one?
