  1. The 250 is a great bike and I cant believe it is not feeling powerfull enough for you.

With that being said buy a 270. I just took delivery of my 6th one. Thats how much I like them.

Our dealer sells over 30 REVs a year and wont even stock the 250 anymore. If you want one he will get it but everyone rides 270s around here.

  2. Could anyone give me some info on Italajets. I am concidering a 83 350 right now for my vintage class ride for no other reason than to have something different. Im sure parts are difficult to get and no one around my way seems to know much about them. This alone should deter me but it has not.

If anyone has some info or opinions I would love to hear them.

    Thanks

  3. Hey Guys,

I have no idea right now who is in and who is out but we are going to do the series this season.

Spring event will be late April or early May at my place in Corning NY.

Summer event will be in Western NY, no specific site yet.

Fall event will be at Watkins Glenn.

We hope to have all the info together for early in 05. Tell a friend, bring a buddy!!

  4. We picked up 10 from the Comos on Tuesday for the Bottle Run Xtreme open house.

We put a 270 together for a demo bike and by the end of the day it had 4 tanks of gas run through it. No complaints except the front brake needs some air bled out and the slow throttle needs to be replaced with a fast one. Thats not to bad considering we only had time to put the bars on and check fluids before people started riding it. Have not even adjusted the floats.

    Nice bike....

  5. We have been doing an end of the year Vintage gate trial for about 5 seasons now in Watkins Glenn NY and the people that come just love it.

We have been concidering trying to make a 3 part series out of it. There would be a Spring, Summer, and Fall event, with awards and ranking for season end. Classes will be only by bikes year.

The top 3 overall finishers this season were

    3rd Chris Arnold 86 ty 350

2nd Bill Caron Rigid frame Grapevine

    1st Aaron Miller 74 ty 175

Any bikes with drum brakes and air cooled are welcomed. The trials will be held in upstate NY and Northern PA. If anyone might be interested in giving this a try let me know. Right now we get about 30 riders but would be looking to get around 50 for a series.

  6. Just a question for all the different clubes out their about stolen bikes and problems in genral.

I keep seeing things about stolen bikes pop up and it gets me to thinking about my club. The riders that show up to our events tend to come from all walks of life. The one thing they all seem to have in common besides motorcycles is being really great people. You could leave a $100.00 bill on the sign up table and at the end of the day it would still be sitting there. In fact there would probably be more money there because someone though it was for a collection. No one locks their vehicles or trailers during the event and it is not uncommon to have people borrow something during the event from another rider in order to finish.

Maybe we have been lucky all this time and its just a matter of time before something happens but its enjoyable not being concerned and just having fun.

So, I have to wonder what the rest of the trials community has experienced?

  7. I need to freshen up an old ty250 motor and my local yamaha dealer is not interested in helping out. There are no more factory pistons hanging around these days so aftermarket is the only option. The problem is nothing is listed for tys.

When I did my 175 I used a CT 175 piston. Worked fine, just opened the ports a bit.

Does anyony know what piston from the Yamaha line other than for the TY will work. It seemes that just about every other model is listed.

    Thanks

  8. Heres the long and short of it. Our club has at present Expert, Advanced, Intermediate, Novice, and Rookie classes. They all have their own lines.

Back when the club started this was different. We still had most of the classes but only 2 lines. Expert and Advanced rode the same line. To get a district provided number plate and Expert class ranking, an Advanced class rider had to finish in year end points within the top 75% of the Expert class.

The idea here being that the Expert class ranking met something within our district. It was something not everyone could expect to do.

As the years have gone by things have changed. To get more riders we needed more lines. Now all classes have their own line. In order for riders to move up classes we made a point system combined with wins to let you move up a class. This went pretty much unobserved except for the move to Expert. This kept the Expert plate and ranking so it still met something.

This system was kept for many years and is how things were when I started in 99. By 01 I was #8 Expert. The system worked but many people were complaining that not enough people were getting into Expert and we were holding people back. The opposite side still wanted to keep Expert as an earned ranking.

2 years ago we reached a compromise. We said anyone who thinks they want a go at Expert can . The other end was, in order to get the plate, which is your ranking, you must finish in the top 75% of the already ranked Experts. If you do not you still get the year end trophey with your actual finish in Expert class but you will not recieve an Expert # ranking and plate till you make the top 75%.

All this did was allow anyone to try and at the same time keep the meaning behind becoming a D4 Expert.

This year our club has shrank and their are only 3 to 4 ranked Experts in the class. If you dont beat one of the 3 of us you are not going to make the cut.

Under our old rules the rider would not have been able to ride the Expert class at all this season. With the change he was able too and proved he can do it. Next year he will probable be one of our top riders and this will all seem silly.

Last season things were just the opposit. We had 2 riders in advanced that wanted a crack at Expert. With the new rule they jumped up and started to finish in the top 3 most of the time. At seasons end they made the 75%.

No system is perfect but I feel this one works. When it comes right down to the point we are talking about a District ranking that means nothing outside our club. For all I care we can get rid of the plates and rankings within our club all together. My problem is that we seem as a group to want rules so after we spend all the time setting them up and getting everyone to vote them in or out we should observe them weather or not we like them individually.

  9. It seems like some of the experts in our local club try to stop or make it very difficult for young advanced class riders to compeat against them for year end points in the expert class. We have a young rider who has ridden all year in the expert class, rides all of the expert sections, makes it over the big obsticals, has placed ahead of a few older experts and is currently fourth in our year end points. There's a few older experts and has-beens who are trying to stop this rider from receiving a year end trophy and number plate. They say he hasn't earned his way to the expert class the way they did.

I guess I should take this personally Mark since I am either one of the Experts or the Hasbeens.

Its funny how you dont mention this is your son you are talking about and you did not have any problems with this rule till it affected your son.

You also dont mention the fact that the only thing he is being kept from is a club provided expert number plate, he sill gets a year end award like any other Expert rider. The present rule states that a rider must earn an expert ranking by finishing in the top 75% of the class. He has not done that.

Thank You for showing me the kind of guy you really are.

  10. What you are asking for is not possible in this forum. Most people can only speak with experience on one bike. The rest is what they have heard about the others. You have to spend some time with a bike to really get a feel for it. Most of us do not get that chance to spend time on more than one bike during a season.

For someone to say a Monty is good in the slippery but bad on big steps is just silly. Seeing as how at any given time Montys will have the first three spots on the podium at the world rounds Im guessing they do just fine. On the opposit side of that to get a Monty lover to say anything bad about their bikes is almost impossible. Thats not because they are without though.

The bottom line is they all work better than most of us can ride. I believe the top rider in any situation will still win no matter what bike he is on. The rest is what feels right to you.

  11. Dont stick any hot screwdrivers anywhere. The Beta is vented from the factory.

When you remove the factory harness there is only one way to hook things up without making modifications.

All together we have had 8 270 revs in the family. We have replaced one stator.

I know what bike I will get next.

  12. We bought a set of 40mm marrazokis, I dont know how that is spelled, which were origional eq. on the last Fantic for $275.00US for a vintage bike project. Other than for valving changes they look just like whats on the new Gassers.

That was a good deal I felt. I know the slide tube for a Showa is more than that.

  13. Hey Rick,

Dont go off the deep end yet. Sounds like you did right to me. If you drained her out right after the said drowing took place, changed fluids and got right back to riding her things will most likely be just fine. The getting back to riding is an important part of the process. As said before that is how the bearings get lubricated. It may also take three or more changes to get her clean again.

I only say all this do to the fact I have seen 3 Revs drowned already this season. This has nothing to do with Betas in particular other than for the fact that most of the people I ride with are on Betas and we have had nothing but rain since it quit snowing. Some of the creek crossings we normally use seem to be a bit deep. Other than getting the water out no lasting problems have been reported.

    Good Luck,

    Aaron

  14. Believe it or not, with a little practice you can get the carb back in as quick as getting it out. It is really quite easy and involves the removal of nothing.

I have rejetted my carb between loops and been back going in the time it takes most guys to fuel and have a quick drink between loops.

  15. All I can say to the Beta Boy post is wow.

Had a 2000 270 REV for the 2000 season. That is the bike that got me hooked on Betas. I have had a new one every year since.

Biggest problem. Check swing arm for hair line crack where shock bolts in. That is the only real problem to watch for. Have a look in the airbox and make sure it is clean. Some people had problems sealing them up. If you do it properly that is never an issue.

The forks are outstanding as far as how they work. Plush is the best way to describe them. My only problem with them is I always worried about damage to the lower part of the tube even though I never touched them.

For what my opinion is worth the Rev is nothing like the Techno. If it was I would be on another brand.

Nothing against the Monty but hands down I would go with the Rev.

  16. A company called Buckley Products used to build them. They were bought out and I dont know by who. I had a rather large collection of the nylock bolts do to the fact that a very good friend of mine worked there so I have not had to look for them.

I checked what is left of my supply and I have nothing left that will fit. Everything is to long and if you cut it down you will lose the nylon plug.

I guess I will have to research this now. If I find a new supplier I will let you all know.
