  1. Hi mate, Where in Middlesbrough were the bikes stolen ? I live in Eston and some of my mates ride on the hills when Charltons is shut. It is worrying news that people are following bike owners from Charltons as I use a rack on the back of my jeep and never thought someone would be following me. I will definitely keep my eyes open if you could post some pictures.
  2. I have owned a 2006 Scorpa SY250F for about a year and love the bike to bits. I would like to upgrade but Scorpa changing hands to Sherco and using the Sherco engine instead of the Yamaha engine doesn't do it for me. I have been looking at the Montesa 4RT and like the look and sound of the Repsol. The trouble is everyone I speak to is telling me I will be disappointed if I change as the Scorpa is the better bike with more bottom end torque and a better riding position. Has anyone compared both bikes who could give me some advice before I make a fatal mistake and sell the Scorpa and find out I hate the 4RT after buying one as trying to find another Scorpa is like trying to find hens teeth.
  3. One last question: If looking from sitting on the seat which side is the cable routed left or right ?
  4. Thanks all very much appreciated.
  5. Hi All, I have removed the petrol tank on my Scorpa SY250F to replace the radiator coolant and I am now having problems with the throttle cable and the revs sticking on when I turn the handlebars from left to right or sit down on the seat. I have tried various different positions with no joy. Does anyone have any ideas on the exact route of the cable if looking at the bike from sitting on the seat. The cable looks to be in new condition and also a bit short. I have matched the cable with a new one and it is exactly the same. Help required please.
  6. Hi itty. The trials bike is an old Falcon if you look on google images at 1950s trials bikes there is one picture on there. The exhaust gives it away.
  7. Not sure what the setting is for the float but sure you can find it on google.
  8. Have you checked to make sure that the choke is closing ? Also have you checked that the bike is not overheating ? Check to see if the fan is working by wiring onto constant a lot of 2 strokes run like dog if overheating and the fan on a Beta is one of the most probable causes. If the carb is flooding change the jets and reset the float by slightly bending it down over so it shuts the jet off before hitting the top of the float chamber.
  9. Hi All, Thanks for the help, I have seen a pre-made insert for the Beta Rev 3 on splat shop for £9.95 but like everything they are out of stock. Has anyone tried one of these inserts ? Splat shop are advertising this as an origional Beta packing. I have heard quite a few rev 3,s with the same sound especially the 270 the same as mine is this a common fault and will it cause any problems with the bike like loss of power or is it all about the noise only ?
  10. Hi All, I have a Beta Rev 3 2003 and the exhaust is pretty loud and cracks a lot (sounds like a motorcross) there are no leaks from the exhaust so i think the packing is shot. Does anyone have any idea how to re-pack and what materials is needed and how hard is it to do. Be grateful of the help.
  11. You should see a brass nut on the radiator with 2 wires on the bottom. The brass nut is the thermostat switch. Take the wires off and using one small piece of wire loop the 2 wires together making sure a good connection is made and then kick the bike off. This makes the fan constant or on all the time when the bike is running. Basically by-passes the thermostat switch. If the fan doesnt run when doing this take the loop out and using 2 pieces of wire connect it to a car battery instead if the fan runs when connected to a battery you have problems with your rectifier or stator. If the fan runs when looped with one piece of wire change the radiator thermostat switch but you will loose coolant so buy a bottle to replace.
  12. To be honest i used the Mitchelin x11 tyre for a while and found that my mates where using the IRC which seemed to be better in slippy conditions. So i changed to an IRC and was quite shocked with the gtrip. The Mitchelin tread used to flood very easily in mud making the tyre look like a big brown doughnut and virtually impossible to grip. I definatley think the IRC is a better tyre with the soft compound on the inner tread and the harder on the outer. But to be honest unless you are a world class rider its quite hard to tell the difference.
  13. Hi I have the SY250F on a 06 and love the bike to bits i also have a 270 Beta Rev 3 2 stroke which i hate but it comes in handy as a spare. My Scorpa never lets me down and has all the power i need and more. The riding position is the best i have seen on any trials bike and the weight is no heavier than any other bike but i do admit it looks heavier. The Scorpa is 74 kilo drained and the Beta is 70 kilo so unless your a world class rider i do not think that 4 kilo will make a difference. As for starting the Scorpa has the choke on the handle bars and mine never fails on first kick. Scorpa all the way for me matey
  14. The Thermostat is situated at the bottom right hand side of the radiator and its a big brass nut with 2 wires on it. Pull the wires off and put a small piece of wire in each connector making sure the wire is touching the metal inside each connection. This makes the fan continuous when looped together and the fan should stay on when the bike is started. If the fan does come on you will need to buy a new thermostat which is only a couple of pound and you will also need to buy some new coolant because you will lose your coolant from the radiator when you unscrew the thermostat. To replace the coolant just fill the radiator and secure the radiator cap and check the coolant level after running. If the fan does not come on when looped you will need to replace the fan which is fairly easy but the screws securing are quite tricky to get at. make sure you check the coolant level either way as you might have boiled some out of the engine. Also check your oil for water to make sure you have,nt popped any seals when overheating. Oil when mixed with water usually goes like thick milky colour depending on which oil you have in the gearbox. Some people use the red automatic transmission fluid which goes like pink milk shake when mixed with water. If you do spot any of this you will need to change the water pump oil seal which is not easy if you are not mechanically minded and will cost around £100.00 in a garage. Hope this helps
  15. Hi Bdub, I have had the same problem with my rev 3 which i have just cured. The first thing to do is take the 2 wires from the thermostat on the bottom of the radiator and using a piece of wire loop together and start the bike. Check to see if the fan is on if it is you need a new thermostat. If it isnt the fan is knackered. Fans are £117.00 but i bought mine second hand from a guy who breaks bikes called Allens trials spares for £45.00 put his name into google he is from chesterfield uk.
  16. I bought a set for my Scorpa 4 stroke which were very hard to get hold of from Trials and Tribulations. Give them a try just look the name up on google for the number.
  17. Hi All, My son in law has been riding my Beta Rev 3 and i noticed that the rear tyre is touching the inside of the silencer. He is a tall big framed lad weighing about 15.5 stone. I was considering adjusting the suspension to make it stiffer but not sure how to set up the front to match the back. (dont want to offset the suspension) the only other option is to add some spacers to where the silencer is bolted to the frame and bring the exhaust out a bit from the frame. Anybody know what the best solution is to cure this before the tyre or exhaust ends up with a hole.
  18. Thanks Chris, I will give it a go but would be much easier if someone was breaking a Beta and i could buy the fan. It breaks my heart to pay £100 + for a fan when there could be a easier solution.
  19. Sounds good to me was the bearing easy to replace and source
  20. Sorry forgot to mention the bike is a Beta Rev 3 on a 2004
  21. Hi All, I have been having problems with my cooling fan. The blade keeps on popping off the motor spindle. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to secure it. I have tried liquid metal but only lasted a few days.
  22. To resolve my problem i think the answer is to change the head gasket anyway and check and change all oil seals also change the radiator cap incase the pressure release is not working and also flush the oil and cooling system to remove any unwanted debris. Fingers crossed thats all i need from a bike that was bought 2 days ago. Thanks for the help very much appreciated
  23. The oil level looked fine but the thing that is bugging me the most is the water hose that blew the day before which was like a shot gun going off really loud which leads me to think that there is a pressure build up in the cooling system. The question is what causes pressure in the cooling system
  24. Meant to say if the head gasket has gone.
  25. Can anyone tell me what problems are caused on the Beta Rev 3 if the head gasket has. Trying to eliminate a few problems with mine.
