  1. Wonder if anyone can help. My mate has a 2017 factory 300 and after 5/10 minutes of riding the fan cut in then will cut in and out every couple of minutes and the engine seems a bit fluffy and you seem to get a anti freeze smell. The day after the bikes been ridden if you undo the rad cap the pressure will blow it out of your hand if not careful. He has now changed the head gasket but still seems to be the same. Does anyone have any ideas.

    Many thanks

There is a spare connection in the loom near to where the original kill button plugs in. It is blanked off, remove the blank and plug  your lanyard kill switch in to it.  You will run two kill buttons, the original and the lanyard one.

    Many thanks John.b

  3. Hello all I'm trying to fit a lanyard to my 2017 ice hell. Bought a genuine lanyard off Vertigo but can't see where it plugs in to. I thought you would remove the original kill button and plug it straight into the loom but the plugs are different ie both females. I don't know if I've been sent the wrong lanyard.

    Many thanks

428 Chain is fine for this application, so leave as is. You might want to consider moving the sprocket away from the wheel slightly as usually the chain runs very close to the tyre. Check wheel alignment first but I suspect this will improve it

Thanks for the reply. I need to replace the rear sprocket and chain but don't know what there from ie BSA or triumph

    Many thanks

Changing is easy, drain oil, cover off and remove the springs which will be held in by nuts on your bike, not pins like earlier models. Fibre plates are obviously thicker than steel so I don't think you will get the same number of fibre plates in as steel. I use Barnett friction plates which are Kevlar and I replace 1 Kevlar plate with a steel plate to get the right pack thickness. I guess it will be the same for the other types of fibre plate.

The Kevlar plates break very well when the clutch is disengaged, take up is predictable and because the Kevlar bites better than the steel the spring tension can be backed off more for a lighter pull (together with using the longer front brake arm on the clutch as they are the same spline) The spring nuts are quite deep so if you back them off too much they will foul the inside of the case and make a mess. I reduce the depth of mine to avoid that.

Search this forum for 'clutch set up' or such like as there are a few posts on setting the clutch up for best operation going back over the years

Hello woody. Ive fitted the modern clutch to my 325 sherpa but having problems with the clutch ie the bit is right at the end and if you try and start it 90% of the time it's like the clutch is engaged. Once running clutch feels good works well just can't adjust to biting point at all. Would you have any ideas?

    Many thanks

Vertigo don't list the filter as a part, only the complete pump assembly. I did a google search  for Mahle KL97 and came up with loads of options here in the UK. You could use this kit as the strainer is also the same as the one on the Vertigo. Only thing is these hose crimps are to small for the hoses used on the Vertigo. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Mahle-Filter-KL97-OEM-Strainer-Kit-for-KTM-75007088111-7500708211/112962428495?epid=8018589804andhash=item1a4d15de4f:g:YTEAAOSwA4Va4c4O:rk:18:pf:0

I'll order the that kit thank you. I just feel it should be changed after 2 years. Just strange Vertigo don't recommend changing or selling the filter separately. Thanks for your help that's this week and next job then ?

Hi Evo Boy, not a hard job at all. To tell you the truth the hardest part was getting water pump bracket over to the side enough to get the the fuel tank top/pump assembly out. once it's out its just a case of cutting the single ear hose crimps and then pop the hoses off each end. You will need two new hose clips to fit the new filter with, ideally single ear hose crimps. I think they are 12mm (I happened to have an assorted box), or you could maybe get away with a couple of high torque hose clamps (bare in mind that the pump supplies up to 3.5 bar).

Ok I think I need to replace mine as its 2 years old now. Where is the best place to get a filter? Vertigo?

    Many thanks

The shorter of the two spacers is the standard one that sits on top of the spring, I made my own some time ago, so I can't remember the exact length, maybe 20 - 25mm. Again I am unsure of the original length of a std spring but it was discussed some time ago

Thanks for the sherpa250 I read that link a while back but couldn't find it. I've decided to just order some of inmotion and go from there I think. Any will be better than the original I hope

I just use standard springs with extra preload spacers [inmotion have them] with 180cc ATF.  I weigh 79kgs so if you're heavier you may need a heavier spring.

Hello Sherpa325 thank for the reply. I'm about 85kgs which pre load do you have as they do 2 sizes. What is the standard length of of sherpa springs? I thought they were 450mm as inmotions are 500mm.

  10. I am thinking of trying some new fork springs to try and make the front suspension work on my 350 sherpa. I've looked at some Rockshock springs with the preload adjusters has anyone fitted these and what do you think?

    Many thanks

Well it turned out to be the (throttle position sensor (TPS) had failed, new one from Vertigo UK is £33.40. I did check the fuel pump and lines as suggested and when in there I changed the in tank fuel filter. It's a Mahle KL97 the same as is used on the KTM 250, 350,450 EXC and loads of other fuel injected bikes. After two years the filter was looking pretty grotty and they can be had for around £16.00 here in the UK (KTM recommend changing theirs every 50 hours).

Hello paul250. What sort of job was it changing the filter?

  12. New float arrived today and matches the original ones perfectly so thanks lads. All fitted and everything seem good. I couldn't see anything wrong with the old float but when I weighed them both the new one's were 7g Lighter than the originals so I'm thinking the old plastic ones may have absorbed some of the fuel over the years.

Thanks Again For all the help and I hope I have finally got to the bottom of it ?

Replace the float, it's the same one used in the 32mm Bings on BMW airheads and is available and inexpensive. I've been running a used BMW float for a few years but I think it might be time to buy a new one. I can't fault the logic that the best repair for a Bing is to replace it with a Mikuni though.

Thanks Motovita. Where would I get one of those floats from? Inmotion said Bing floats are discontinued and any parts are really hard to find now. I don't want to change for a Mikuni but may have to.

  15. Good afternoon. I stripped my Bing down cleaned and refitted and still leaking fuel out of both overflow pipes even then not running. I restripped and replaced the float needle valve checked floats themselves and they seem ok but still having the same problem. Spoke to inmotion and he has recommend me getting a new Mikuni 26mm what do people think? I like the way power is on the Bing tho.

    Many thanks

  16. New plug fitted and after 20 minutes of kick it fired into life engine sounded sweat. It doesn't want to idle tho which one on the carb is the adjuster screw?

PS thanks for all the help you lads gave me so different you my modern bike.
