  1. i run an absolutely standard b175 engine straight from a mot'd road bike plus electrix ignition in my drayton, its flexible forgiving and more than enough to haul my 18.5 stone up anything , rides fantastic.. all weekend at the captains trial i ve been asked , who did your suzuki piston who built the engine, which barall did you use, whose gears have you got, what airbox is that ( its a standard b175 inlet rubber with a mini moto foam filter ...2.99) dont waste time and money..

  2. there is literally nowhere near the start.. if the start is at the traditional spot drive north out of ilkley and cross the wharfe turn first left along denton road..very posh residential.. follow this round and steep up hill toward Langbar the road goes uphill almost directly north keep on it you ll go through a very sall hamlet and the road will turn right up where you get onto the moor and the road turns left take a dirt track right for about a good half mile ( you ll think your in the wrong place..theres nothing there,,)

should be decent weather next week so the moors should be dry.. check every nut and bolt and make sure the things water tight. although no distance compared to the IGN of old its still a good old trip round and much of it is a LONG way from no where so bike prep is critical.

as regards how to ride it .. ride to win ( fast and hard) or ride to finish ( preserve bike and body).. my limited ability always meant i did the latter and once fluked an award which has pride of place in my almost empty trophy cabinet..

  3. questions you need answers to.. are the stantions the same diameter.. are the fork legs the same distance apart in the yokes on both bikes..are the fork legs the same length.. are they both drum braked..

if the answers are yes exactly for the first two and yes within half an inch for the third and of course for the fourth then you ve a chance of it been 'fairly simple'.. if not.. you ll have head scracthing and work to do..

  4. frankly you should be celebrating..the weather was the worst i ve ever trialled in.. sleet hail gusting winds.. proper hard man stuff but 50 or more middle aged blokes braved it on everything from rigid ambassadors to show queen ariels. nice compact trial no mud some climbs and some sections had no rocks or stones..

  5. trials are too cheap and it will come back and bite us on the bum.. one example on these pages this week.. someone asking for folks to clock out when they finish so the organisers know if everyones ok.. two years ago a fell runners wife turned up at the prize presentation asking where her husband was... no one else had missed him.. he sadly lay dead on the moors and nobody had even known he was missing.. you can imagine the coroners response when told they dont check who starts or finishes and now organisation has had to change massively and with much increased costs and time.. 10/12 /15/18/20 quid is nothing to the wads of cash handed over at telford at the weekend, my daughter pays 30 quid for triathlons and thinks thier cheap its 98 quid in to watch arsenal 15 quid to watch bradford city batter sunderland in the fa cup almost a tenner each adult at the cinema to sit down.. trials is cheap..

  7. re insuring on a frame number.. many companies as stated do only do it for a fortnight if at all but one company no names but it is a womans christian and surname and sounds like pile of trash will insure your bike forever on a frame number alone.. and you get unlimited aa call outs on her cover as well as a freebie..

  8. ok.. a simple message.. keep the thing simple.. of the stuff youve listed nothing nothing is of value... except mabe the rims. use 21/18. use cub or bantam hubs they are still cheap and plentiful look for abandoned bantam projects or complete bantam wheels. use the std c15 or b40 fork put your honda rims on if they use the same number of spokes.

you could use all your honda forks hubs etc but you d have a bike with limited riding opportunities and limited resale value use brit stuff and you ve got part compatability and useability and saleability.. trawl ebay for a couple of months you ll find everything you need. enjoy
