I need to change the points and condensor on my MH200. Any tips/tricks on how to lock the crankshaft to stop the engine turning when removing the flywheel nut? Also can someone confirm that the nut is reverse threaded? I've heard this but I'm not 100% sure. Cheers!

Great info - Thanks folks! The tank has already been painted at some point, and they made a pretty good job of it. The paint's not bubbling or lifting, it's just looking a bit tired, with scratches, staining, chips etc. Any reason why I can't just give the paint a light sanding and blow it over with a new top coat?. That way I wouldn't be stripping the tank back to the original plastic Would I need to prime it first?

No I didn't actually.Though I had a hunch it might be jet related. Bikes been sitting for years without running, so looks like a carb overhaul is on the cards. I know the amalcarb.co.uk site do a great stripdown/rebuild article for the MK1 concentric, but nothing like it for the MK2 that I can see. They also do an overhaul kit, which I'll probably get next. Anyone got any links to parts diagram, rebuild info, jet specs etc?

Newly restored MH200. Still to do the decals which are on the order. Been in storage for the last nine years, but started pretty easily after a top end rebuild with new rebore/pison, small end, kickstart spring,cables, plug, oil etc. Still a bit of tweaking to do, number one being it refuses to idle (see my thread!) Can't wait to get out on it!

Just finished restoring my Montesa MH200 (new 2nd oversize piston, rebore, plug, oil, cables, kick start spring etc) Bike will start fairly easy on the choke, but doesn't want to idle. It has the MK2 Amal concentric carb. Does anyone know how to set up idle adjustment on this carb, as it doesn't appear to have an adjusting screw. Also, the revs don't drop off as quickly as they should when throttle is closed. Could this be connected? Any help much appreciated!

Hi all, I'm in the process of restoring a Cota 200, starting first with splitting the crankcase to replace main bearings. After removal of cylinder head & barrel, I've noticed there's some light scoring on the bore and piston skirts. Anyone know the best place to get a rebore/piston kit done in the UK? Much appreciated!

You might be right, I've just had a look at the parts diagram, and think I may be missing one of the large washers. I'll need to check next time I'm at the bike. Are the washers available - (part no is 0265.118). or any one know what size they are so i can replace?

Should have said - that's how it came apart. The two shims sit on top of the shaft, and mate with the bush on the crankcase

Thank you, one of the most useful bits of advice about the Cota 200 kickstart issues. I know it's an old post, but just thought I'd add this photo of the assembly after removal (ignore the broken kickstart spring) Woodbutcher is right, the whole assembly pulls out with the case cover.

Yep, mine has a side stand. No expert on them though, I've also just bought one!

Cheers for the advice. .Does anyone have experience of setting up the kickstart properly on these bikes? I've heard that the kickstart assembly can be a bit of an issue on these, so want to make sure I get it right.

Hi, newbie here, so greetings to all first off! Just bought a 1981 (I think) Cota 200 as a project bike. Needs a few things done - Main bearings, kick start spring, service items, I'll probably go over the engine while the crankcase is split. PO has supplied lots of new parts with the sale. Couple of questions, I don't seem to have a chain tensioner, and I suspect the fuel tank might be leaking slightly? Any advice/links to manuals, workshop or owners, parts suppliers, tips, info and just general experience with this little Montesa very very much appreciated! Few pics:
