  1. Denham Aerodrome has been a regular fixture for ever - certainly since I started riding about 40 years ago (with a lot of gaps in between!!!). I do think it would suit what (I think) you’re after. Alas, I wasn’t at Stokenchurch - my wife is recuperating from an ACL operation So I’m a bit grounded for the next few weeks - garden section area coming on well though! Do try HUX - think it will be good for confidence.

  2. We snowboard a lot in Avoriaz.

But this is a slightly different use of the resort. If you know Avoriaz then you’ll know the cliff that drops down below the village…

And nice to see the bike survived!

I hadn’t considered that… I’m not sure I even understand what it means! Do the different clubs belong to different areas then, like darts leagues etc? You can see how green I am, I never even considered that…. If that’s the case! 🧐

The country (well England - note sure about the rest of the UK) is split into Centres. So (for example) South Midland Centre, South Eastern Centre, etc, etc.
Some trials are totally ‘open’ so it doesn’t matter where your club is based. Most are either ‘open to centre’ (so your club has to be in that centre’, ‘group’ (so a selection of clubs in that group - the Meteor Group in the South Midland Centre is an example) or ‘closed to club’ (so just for members of that club).

You’ll see what an event is from the supplementary regs on the ACU website.

But per earlier you can join more than one club.

    Hope that makes sense!

  4. I guess where you are based then joining different clubs might allow you to ride different centre events. Someone will probably correct me but North Berks will be in a different centre than Ixion or Wycombe. That would open things out for you. And multi club isn’t a problem.

so getting back to the oil thing i would like a beta rev3 what would be the thoughts on using the little plastic bottes of stihl oil as used for chain saws/ strimmers etc ( which the mix is 50 to 1)

Hmm - probably not. Nothing wrong with Stihl (also use for my chainsaws) but I’d be inclined to go with a trials specific 2T oil. Ask on the Beta forum here (I use Putoline). And definitely ask there on the ratio - I would suspect it’s a lot less that 50:1 which is what I use for my 46 year old TY.

    Fine. I won't. Ufff.. Glad I've asked....

I literally never ever had any offroad bike. After many years of riding on road everything here is brand new reality.

I don't know all the rules, don't know trial savoir vivre. I am curious, and hence my question.

For many people motorcycle is anti-social. I am the last person to act against rules... if I know them.

Now, I can clean my bike in my backyard, it is not an issue. I asked about cleaning prior to transport.

I'll buy some big tarp and will use that when it's muddy.

Don’t think anyone’s got any beef - just the paranoia of losing land. Best of luck and enjoy your trials riding!

    Exactly

    • I think it's specifically against ACU rules
    • Very disrespectful to the kind farmers & landowners who have allowed to use their land to ride your bike at a trial
    • Frowned upon by other riders

Our club did a trail riding weekend, held at a proper campsite (owned by a very pro biking motorsport owner, who is chairman of a local Trials club, he allows Trials on his land etc)

On the Sunday afternoon, some lads from down south, flashy motorhome...........got their pressure washer out, used their onboard water tanks to work the pressure washer and promptly cleaned off their bikes, after the 2 days riding........all over his pristine campsite grass🥵

    Guess what?

When we asked to use the venue the following year, for the same event...............permission was denied and we were told to FRO - because these muppets had messed up their campsite grass

Just don't do it, washing your bike at the event venue is anti-social and plain bad manners

Totally agree (although we’re not all bad darn sarf 😉) - no way should you jet wash at an event.

  8. Great choice - I sold my 2016 260RT earlier this year to buy a new one. Having had it for 5 years it was an awesome bike. Keep on top of the usual maintenance and then the oil/oil filter changes and you’ll never have any problems. Good luck and enjoy!

  9. Enter it - you can always ask for fives at anything you really don’t fancy - it won’t be a problem at all. Ixion is a really friendly club with well run trials and Beckley is a nice blast round.

Nb I think you will definitely need to enter in advance on the ACU website. I am entered (subject to bloody petrol) so more than happy to scoot round with you - easiest pm me.

And apart from the other clubs mentioned, HUX has a practice ground which is pretty sociable and free (with membership) on 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month.
