  1. i was watching one of the guys on his sherco 125 and i thought his foot slipped off the peg during a long wheelie, but obviously was just balancing....
  2. I dabbled with photography at at trials event last year but could never seem to get the right moment for the shutter. Recently I found out I could export stills from a vid so tried that instead. The quality is nowhere near the same of course, but it was fun being able to take the precise frame where the action looked best. These pics were extracted from
  3. very nicely filmed, i assume the DSLR has good optical stabilization and/or you have a very steady hand! i enjoy filming and editing almost as much as riding and will be looking at buying a video camera soon to film others at events. were you shooting at 50fps?
  4. i assume the helmet is under the hood? looks like an interesting summer setup but i'd be worried about that furry hood getting hooked up on branches. thanks for the tips. i hadn't thought about mixing up trials with trail riding bu makes a lot of sense. i know a few good riding areas which would suit.
  5. pegs, got it. i'll have a bit of practice on that then. found the fourth gear ones easy for a fair distance but having to learn to cover the rear brake fast on a two stroke, i've only ever ridden 4T dirt bikes so always used the engine brake to sit around the balance point!
  6. definitely having fun, and good advice on not trying to be toni bou... i'm still only just getting the hang of balancing at a standstill for ten or more seconds but am trying to bounce the bike along the rear wheel (without much success of course). it's all just a steep learning curve and it feels weird being a beginner again compared to very experienced in the dirt riding scene. speaking of the young guy, i'm editing a video of his riding which i'll post shortly.
  7. i bought a pair a few years ago as it looked like a good compromise between knee guards and full on knee braces. i found the buckles kept breaking and the straps stretched and were weak... the only way to make them work was buying velcro and making up a pile of straps to hold them on securely. they actually do a pretty good job now but found them next to useless originally. possibly they have upgraded them now? i know everyone had similar complaints a few years ago. see this thread. all the trials riders i've started riding with only have knee guards or no protection at all. but i have to use some kind of bracing due to dodgy knees.
  8. been getting some tips from a local 14 year old who's coming along well. at over three times his age i think i've started trials riding a bit late to do some of this stuff but keen to give it a shot. claire on the gas gas 125 is having fun too, she just throws herself into it although like me she's finding it hard to stop tackling everything dirt bike style and use some finesse.
  9. only a week off it officially being summer here in queensland, australia, and it's a sweat-fest already. still very new to trials so keen to find a good balance between protective gear and staying cool. currently have a vented trials helmet, standard mx pants, trials boots then a typical dirt riding jersey over elbow guards. i can't think of any improvements short of jumping in a nearby creek every 30 mins if it's available?
  10. i'm not sure if it has much relevance but does anyone have tips on longer wheelies? i've always found them very easy on dirt bikes at low speed, but the trials bike just wants to flop to either side after about three yards.
  11. hi all i've been lurking around the forums for a few months now for the excellent tutorials and trials tips and thought i'd sign up. i found myself increasingly interested in trials as our mob love to ride tight technical sections on the dirt bikes and try to clear them. so bought a 2011 sherco 290 a few months ago and had about six rides on it now. it's all a very steep learning curve but found it's had a huge impact on the dirt riding already. this vid was my first ride on the sherco 290, and claire's fourth ride on her gas gas 125. definitely confirms our status at trials noobs.
