yep, he was only hopping around because i asked him if it was hard to do on the older bikes. this TY250 was borrowed for the day because he's thinking of swapping over to twin shock so be interesting to see how he goes on it after he buys it and gets used to it. there were a few near vertical rock faces and other obstacles he didn't want to try since it wasn't his bike yet.
-
one of our B grade juniors borrowed a twin shock to see if he'd like to ditch his modern sherco for something older.
surprised at how he could still manage some of the advanced moves i didn't think were possible on the older beasts...
-
not really a training video but came about because of the series we are doing.
so many of us have dirt riding mates who say they occasionally think about buying a trials bike, so we did a video to try and push them into actually buying one.
-
just back from a well run two day event over easter hosted by a sister club here in queensland, australia. great to see so many girls out riding and showing up quite a few of the boys too!
-
i think i mentioned it on another thread, but with basic photoshop skills you can fake the blurred background.
i take snapshots from videos so that i can give riders an image to print out if they want. the background can be blurred easily in photoshop to make sure the focus is on the rider. it's pretty obvious when you look for it but i only spend about 30 secs on these.

thanks for the encouragement guys. definitely plenty of chances to cheer then, i'm dropping the sherco plenty when i set tougher sections for myself, hehe!
six months in now and seem to be progressing okay. i came third in clubman at a recent comp, and the guys say the practice sections i'm setting for myself are getting close to C grade.
you can almost hear my a*** puckering in this vid... i know the drop offs and ledges look very flat in the vid but was definitely a bit hairy and ocvered in bruises at the moment from quite a few falls off them.
-
Vid of the trials world championship round 2 in Australia last weekend. Bou, Raga and crew up to the usual impossible antics.
-
riding in soft sand. thankfully one of the few things i can do reasonably well on a trials bike as i've done quite a bit of soft sand riding with the dirt bikes.
-
a few more pics from videos taken last week. tom is only 15 so always looking to push the envelope.
he's started doing this pipe without a kicker now.
filmed through the little hole in the pipe above.
his brother tends to motocross ride his trials bike...
one of their mates doing a 180 spin from a standstill.

thanks jimmie, we always have a good laugh putting these together. quite a few of us have dirt bikes too so will start a cross training series of vids shortly - applying trials techniques to enduro bikes. we've put up a pile of tutorials and will follow up with videos shortly.

here is a video of a club competition from yesterday if anyone is interested.
-
the guys marking sections really outdid themselves on this one, particularly in the higher sections which ran up little waterfalls in parts.
-
welcome apoole6, hope you manage to link up with some other riders in your area. i'm sure there would be a few around. all good tips above, you could check the bike setup and suspension tips here: [url=http://www.wdtc.org.au/how-to-ride-trials.htm
you'll be going great if you can bunny hop an older trials bike!

latest vid. it does rehash some earlier points in other vids but experienced riders in our club reckon the need to move around and position your body correctly can't be emphasized enough.
usual silliness at the end (these guys force me to do include, honest!). the planking looks potentially painful....
-
not sure if you are still following this thread mutley, but even if you don't get a trials bike you can have a crack at cross training.... applying trials techniques to riding a dirt bike or enduro bike. our club has started a series of "how to" articles on crossing training if it's any help:

thanks nellie. gollum is one of our more unusual club members. he's always going on about "one piston ring to rule them all", whatever that means. he gets incredible traction when walking a section though!
here's the latest vid:

that would be pretty cool! i fitted one to my FE570 due to middle aged fingers not coping with a lot of clutch work. pretty amazing what you can do in gnarly terrain with them. it would make little difference for experienced clutchmeisters but fantastic for us average joes in clubman.
anyway, no record of anyone ever fitting one to a trials bike. i reckon your only hope would be if the kits for the beta enduro bikes might fit the trials bikes too... but i can't help feeling they'd be completely different clutches. link below.

thanks zippy, although we try hard to stay serious when making these vids. almost kept serious the whole way on the latest one...
-
latest one. let me know if you think any major points are missing and i'll add them in.
-
definitely on the list, zippy. filmed some steep climbs last weekend and the guys were saying to dig the bars in if you fall. one guy tried on this rock face when he came off but of course the bar wouldn't dig in so he and the bike slid and bounced about 40 feet back down. got the whole thing of film too!
-
our best local junior rider has just got a sponsorship with golden tyres so be interesting to see how he goes with him. he rides a lot so i'll post his impressions as he tries out the different types and see if they have got the problems sorted by now...
-
latest vid, riding in rocky terrain and creek beds...
-
hose off at the end of each ride. take it for a quick spin to dry it out. then just spray with silicon spray.
i've been doing this for years with dirt bikes and get similar wear and longevity to everyone else. i'm not sure if this will suffice with the non-O-ring chain on the trials bike but keen to see how it goes. it's been working so for for six months and riding most weekends. it's been such a hassle free technique with all the dirt and road bikes.
-
thanks, great if they can help others outside of my club. having issues with the latest one on double blips and zaps. internationally there seems to be a consensus on what a double blip is, and how to do it. but there's a lot of variation on exactly what a zap is and how to do it.
on mid-sized obstacles a lot of riders place their front near or actually on top of the obstacle before using the clutch, throttle and body weight to launch the bike up and over. various training dvds and info on other sites support this but some more recent trainers say to still ram the front wheel into the obstacle around two thirds to three quarters of the way up the obstacle, as is done for the double blip to compress the suspension and get extra lift.
we have an interclub trial so i'm going to ask all the A and B grade riders for their opinions on this. for the time being, i've put an annotation in the video saying there are at least two schools of though on this. it's all hypothetical for me at this stage, i haven't even started doing zaps yet!
-
yep, i've noticed whenever i pull up at red lights nowadays on the DR650 i try to balance for as long as possible i the one spot.... almost makes traffic lights fun!
trials changed the way i ride my dirt bike now. almost always feet up in the gnarly stuff, better throttle and clutch control in slippery conditions, much smoother, the list goes on and on.
