  1. The more people / businesses that you have in the supply chain the more margins / profits that have to be paid. If you could take out one of the 'Players' in the process of supply you could reduce the price to the end user but as has already been noted due to the logistics needed to maintain supply this is not going to happen unless of course the factory took on the role and then of course they would need to charge for that service !

    This situation is not limited to Trials bike supply I cannot think of any manufactured product ( world market ) where the factory deals direct with the high street outlet ?

  2. I have an NEB speedway clutch with 3 rather than 6 springs on my Ariel, it handles the power, the bite point is ultra reliable and it is as light as my modern bike ( I have had it for about 5 years and still on the original plates running dry.

    Yes it is extreamly simple and I imagine far cheaper than a hydraulic system but I do not see how the same could be applied to brakes, remember moped cable disc brakes putting your feet down was an easier way to stop !

  3. Just an off the wall idea, with all of the video evidence now available why not do away with the instant observer decision and have a panel review the ride in real time and give a score decision within say 5 minutes of the ride.

    With no individual to blame for a wrong decision perhaps the rules could be properly used, I have just watched the Jitsie video from the weekend just gone and there was lots of stop riding going on partly because the sections are too hard for no stop and partly because the observers are not able to score by the rules for whatever reason.

    The riders will always push the limits but I would say that Raga, Cabastany and Dabil ( apologies for any miss- spelling there ) do a good job of riding to the concept of no-stop but are probably paying a penalty for that.

    Any thoughts ?

  4. Well the European summer holiday must be over by now so is there any new Gasgas news to share ?

    Seems like Vertigo and TRS are very quiet as well !

    You would have thought the marketing machines would have kicked in and we would be having our pockets teased.

  5. If yours was the same bike with a noticeably lighter set up then perhaps it would be worth checking out what you already have ? Perhaps the master or slave cylinders are partially seized, wrong oil used or has the hydraulic oil been changed from original spec ?

    I do not think there should be much difference between bikes of a similar build spec so I would look for what may have changed first before you try to modify what you have.

  6. I think it is what is needed to get youngsters into the sport, a chap in the U.K. I think called John Bliss made a similar bike based on a pit bike engine and it looks super.

    This appears to use bicycle wheels so how big is it ? Would it be a starter bike for a 12 year old ?

    Perhaps someone needs to start putting kits together to enable budget bikes to enter the game.

  7. If the oil is not getting contaminated, I would start again with the oil change.

    You have to assume that there is always some residue oil left in the system once you have drained the box, I would suggest as much as 50cc unless you have been very very thorough.

    If the gasgas spec says 360 cc , then try to start with 300cc , allow to settle (couple of minutes) and check level through the site glass add tiny amounts until oil is half way up site glass.

    The Pro has a tiny gearbox volume and any overloading will put the level above the breather outlet and the thrashing around of the internals will push oil out, this is far easier to try than stripping the engine looking for possibly a non existent problem.

  8. What specification plate are you going to use for the bashplate ?

    You may find a general alloy plate is too soft and will 'move' if given a big hit.

    I used a second hand Bultaco bashplate which I got from fleabay for my Ariel, it required a serious power press in a mates workshop to re set the bend to suit my frame and it has not moved in the 8 years I have used it.

    Duralumin is the trade name of the material used back in the 80's and there will be an equivalent available at your stockists.

  9. It must be more complicated than this, a dead short on the motor would mean when you apply D.C. power something would get extreamly hot very quickly or put something into protect mode or blow a fuse.

    I understand your logic but you need to get someone with a bit of electrical knowledge and a multimeter to check it out, you may simply have a duff battery ie it shows 36v but is not capable of supplying any amps.

  10. Sorry to be negative, but regarding the last post, this is meant to be a Trials forum and little of these backcountry bikes has anything to do with the sport of observed trials.

    I do ride a 500cc bike, it's called an Ariel, I can assure you that no one would want to ride the weight in a modern trial.

    In fact there are often comments that most people are over biked on 250's

    Back to the thread, when are we likely to hear more about the Gasgas resurrection ?

  11. Not too sure about the tank seat area interface, why does it look like there should be a seat pad ?

    I imagine most people will take a rest between sections and sliding up and down that does not look like it will improve your day !

  12. I think another use is to put more than 1 in to lower the compression ratio to soften the motor performance.

    Maybe not perfect as far as squish is concerned but as stated earlier not many would notice the difference but most would notice the softer performance of a reduction in compression.

    I had one of the old gasgas 350's, compression was so high it was renowned for breaking kickstarts, I did not give squish a second thought ( did not even know about it ) just got a local engine specialist to take out as much metal from the cylinder head as possible to get the compression down and hey presto a beautiful grunty engine was born.

    Port timing will also be changed if you mess with the gaskets but you will be doing that anyway if you are playing with the squish.

  13. I was told that a spare / replacement, battery / power module, for the EM is around £2500, if that is the case you won't be taking a spare with you and once the first 2 years of its life has been used who will want to risk buying it off you ?

  14. I do not understand your comment about weight and battery life, if that was the case the weight of the rider would also have a significant affect.

    Building a freeride based on a Gasgas chassis would not change anything, KTM should just build the gas version and get into the market quickly with a proven product.

    Electric bikes are a tiny part of the market as they are having to pioneer the product into an established sport and there is no financial incentive for riders to make the jump.

    Price the bike at under £4000 and rent the 'battery' relative to hours used and you may establish a market share.

  15. Well that's two different answers, I must admit I assumed 2strokes were considered evil by the U.S. which is why all of our beloved road bikes got killed off.

    Do you see KTM enduro bikes being ridden on the road or are they trailered to the desert / forest for a thrash.
