  1. Thank you. More grazed knuckles today...........
  2. I have obviously missed something but after re-assembling the clutch I find that the plates are ratting around like a dick up a sleeve. I'll pull it apart again tomorrow though you can see what the problem is here. Also will examine this which seems exactly the same as my 191 though mine has pins, not nuts to hold the springs. If anyone knows the source of my incompetence, I'd appreciate the advice and apologise in advance.
  3. I have torque figures of 5 ft/lbs for both crank case bolts and crank seal holders. This seems little more than finger tight. Anyone have anything different?
  4. Hi, just browsing some success stories and I notice you have swapped the rear brake over. I'm thinking of this myself, how tricky was it?
  5. Wow, they look great. Mine is, and will stay, rough. If it looked that good I wouldn't want to ride it ! I unfortunately won't be in time to enter the Tamar Trial this year but I'll still do the odd one in the chair of my mates Norton 500T
  6. I'm using KOYO bearings and one of the guys in the shop said he'd had one a while ago that was faulty and had some play so hopefully this will be the answer. I'll find out next week when I'm back.
  7. Oh the joy. I have dropped off my semi re-built engine at a local bike shop who has knowledge of Bultaco's. The owner used to ride them with much success in the 60's Crank has been put into the left hand crank case and there is detectable movement, it seems, in the new bearing ! Getting a little fed up with this..........
  8. I'm pretty sure this is right and it selects all the gears.
  9. Cool and the gang, excellent ! I may get chance to have a go in the morning, if not it will be next week but I can see light again. Awaiting road registration after a reasonably painless application so it will be mot'd, insured, taxed and road registered. The small matter of it actually running will be holding things up........................... Thanks people. Neil
  10. Only solar energy coming up with that search. Tried manual as well.
  11. Looking for that site Noel. Not sure which it is. Neil
  12. I eventually settled on putting the old crank seals on and using them as guides. will look on t'internet this evening for gear layouts. cheers.
  13. Sorry to be an abject amateur. Is there a correct way to get the main crank bearings seated in the correct position? I presumed there would be a lip to seat against.
  14. I have it in front of me. I'm not good with written instructions and the pics are terrible.
  15. I have the cases apart in my Sherpa 350t 191 and have been told to have the gearbox in the left hand case so I thought I'd put it back together without the crank to keep it all together. Long story short I end up with a mixture of cogs in a heap. I have assembled it the way it seems to "want" to go together but the images I have are very poor so I have no idea if it is right. I still have to swap the mains bearings over so I have photographed it and will dis-assemble before tackling the bearings. Anyone know of a good account of how it goes back together ? Cheers Neil
  16. Re-built crank back today with all new con rod and big/little end bearings. Now just need some time but at least I didn't buy a BMW GS. Saw this one in the shop, 60,000 miles !
  17. It seems it was the plastic bearing holder that had disintegrated in the left hand case. Work will recommence after the weekend.
  18. I think the swarf is from where the magneto had been catching on the housing !!! Suprused it ran at all.
  19. Try contacting "in motion bultaco" they have all the frame and engine numbers from the original importers. very helpful people, they sent written confirmation of date imported. I did buy a few things from them though. Neil
  20. When I can finally split the crank cases I will find out ! Any tips for splitting the cases ?
  21. Back to the garage then. Cheers !
  22. After all the trouble starting and plug fouling it seems it is the main bearings so seals as well. Please see pic attached. Discernible movement when levered under the magneto so engine re-build it is. The pictures in my manual aren't good. They mention the 12, 6mm nuts securing the crankcase halves and not to loosen the illustrated one as it secures the friction pin though this does not apply to pre '76 models. I can't make out which one they mean. Can anyone shed any light on this? Also any advice on pitfalls to avoid gratefully accepted. Cheers Neil
  23. Well I suppose this was inevitable. Major hassles starting and plug fouling etc. People did say about old seals perishing ........ Seems the main bearings have failed as noticeable movement when a lever is placed under the magneto. I have decided not to enter the Tamar Trial as it may not be ready. I'll be ordering an engine re-build kit on the 'morrow. Any helpful advice on the re-build will be gratefully accepted.

    Bultaco 350T

Thanks people. Looking on the internet I have seen various capacities shown for the Sherpa varying from 5-7 litres. If I'm pessimistic and go for 5 litres at 40 mpg that should give me a range of 40+ miles. The longest trial I'll do is likely to be 85 miles with a lunch stop half way so if I carried a spare litre I shouldn't have a problem. Cheers
