  2. Whereabouts in the uk. I had the crank rebuilt for my 191 in cornwall. £35+parts.

    Fuel Filters

I use a Mikuni Carb with no filter and the filter in the tank is a bit iffy. Paint had passed into the carb before hence the additional inline filter.

    Fuel Filters

Hi, Happy new year to you all. Just wondered which inline fuel filters you use. I'm having trouble getting a good seal as the distance between tap and carb isn't huge so kinks in the pipe are a problem as is the pipe fitting squarely to the filter. See pic.
  8. Just fitted mine from Bultaco uk. £220 overnight courier. Plug and play, just needed a bracket and kill switch wired. Cured all my problems so very happy.
  9. My engineer friend have a quick test.
  10. I'd been thinking of fitting electronic ignition for a while but thought maybe I should wait until after xmassmuss. Then I remembered I never buy anyone anything anyway so it's fitted and has runs like a dream so big thanks to all for advice and support. Ho Ho Ho indeed
  11. Took the bike over to an engineer friend for an afternoon of drinking tea and fettling. Checked the carb and everything is as it should be. Ordered an electronic ignition kit from Bultaco UK and it will arrive tomorrow. Watch this space......................
  12. The Carb bought new from Bultaco uk (In Motion) and jetted for this bike. I'm presuming it just needs a little air screw adjustment. Not today mind. Absolutely persisting down.
  13. Starts, ticks over, pulls well but doesn't run well at full throttle. If it's dry tomorrow I'll go out with a screwdriver and have a tinker with the air screw.

    Boot Sizes

Hi, After finally settling on buying some Gaerne Lorica trials boots online I would be interested to know what experience others have. Should I go for a size larger than normal to account for thicker socks. Obviously I won't be able to try them as there aren't any stockists local to me. I ride an old twinshock. Thanks for looking. Netley
  15. Hmm. Seems both timing and points gap were out so have corrected this and it started and ran nicely, from a dry tank, 3rd kick. Ticked over nicely. Have to go out but will give it a short run later if it isn't too dark. Cheers to one and all. Neil
  16. Yup, Good advice. I had forgotten about the actual points gap itself. Could really do with an old magneto to cut up. Really awkward using the little slots and having to take it off every time to adjust. Nice one. Neil
  17. I just had a thought that though I re-set the timing, I set the points gap when the bearings were shot. I shall re-set it. Tank is back from the cleaners.
  18. Hi, It's points ignition and the points and condensor were replaced before the rebuild. New plugs have been put in and cleaned alternatively between startings. Too late for the steam clean and I have gas central heating so no boiler room. When the tank is back I'll ensure it's properly dry and see if I can give it a run for a few miles........
  19. Well it is easier to start and will tick over nicely. When revved it bogs down a little and if held at a constant throttle it seems to miss and sometimes there is a blow back through the carb which tries to stop it. I've put it into gear and it does run forward. The plug is looking better after a short run now as the pic shows. I've gapped the plug and it was to big. Things are moving forward but it still is far from ok. Thanks for your help, I'd be jiggered without it. Neil.
  20. I have had it running and rode it around briefly and it was going forwards. I am having the fuel tank steam cleaned and thought I'd rig up something temporary to try and flush the crank case out. If I get it running I will drop it into gear to check the direction !!!! Cheers Neil
  21. Having rebuilt the Sherpa engine and had it running beautifully I then go and pour 2 litres of Diesel in when refueling. I gave the tank a quick wash with straight unleaded, kicked over the engine lots, cleaned out the carb and replaced the filter and plug. Still running like ****e. The video is at half throttle and pic of the new plug. I plan on dumping the fuel in the tank as presumably the tank was still coated with Diesel, washing again with unleaded and re-cleaning the carb. Any other suggestion apart from stopping being so stupid? Should I try and wash the crankcase somehow? Hope this gives you all a good laugh :hyper: Netley.

    First Run.

I can't run to electronic ignition at the mo. I made a timing mark on the case and magneto using a punch and electronic vernier guage and re-timed it. I ran it again later yesterday and made sure it was warmed up properly. It runs well now. It started well several times and I'll give it another run on the toad tomorrow. I just need somewhere off road now to have a proper play Cheers. Neil

    First Run.

Well I left it to make a coffee, re-started it, easily, then warmed it and had a run up the road. All seems well. Thanks to all for the invaluable advice. I'll be back.............

    First Run.

Morning all. I finally finished putting the Sherpa back together today. It has started and run but is bogging down and not revving cleanly. Could this be the timing out?
  25. I never thought it would go on in only one position on first inspection. I have a manual I bought from In Motion though I struggle with following written instruction. You live and learn eh?
