  1. The reason I needed the off set ( the rim is not centered in reference to each side of the hub) was because I was replacing the spokes and didn't think about it not being centered and the spokes I got were the wrong length. After much calculations with different length spokes my mechanic was able to center the rim in the swing arm and align the sprocket with the engine. The off set, If any one cares, is 66.7 mm on the brake side and 73 mm on the sprocket side measured from the center of the rim to the outside of the hub. Hope this may help some one. I guess the best thing to do is compare your new spokes with the original before replacement , experience is a hard teacher. Its humbling to realize even at 64 I don't know everything. HA HA

  3. Im looking for advise regarding a mono shock trials. I'm wanting to purchase a mono shock trials mostly to play with. I currently have a couple twin shock trials I ride and Am curious how the mono shock trials ride. I find used bikes in the $2000.00 price range usually for a 2005 bike or $4500.00 for a year 2012 gas gas or Montesa. is there a significant difference how the early mono shocks ride compared to the later year bikes? I live in a rural area it's about 100 miles to the nearest bike shop so it's not easy to test ride. I would appreciate your advise. Thanks. jbird

    G Morning Feetupfun,. The distance from the front axle to the rear axle is 50.5". The swing arm is the same as my other 250. I've done no mod to the swing arm. Another measurement is the front axle to the front motor mount is 20.5". Also the motor and frame serial numbers match and the motor is clearly a trials. I can see a difference in the steering angle. I was curious if Yamaha starred building their trials with a steering angle similar to the enduro then changed to what we see on all others. GDay.

    Hey All,. I just rescued what I thought was a 74 ish ty 250 to clean up and resale. The more I looked at it I thought the wheel base was a little long it measures 50 inches from the lower front shock mount to the lower rear shock mount. That is 2 inches longer than my other 74 ty 250 I bought new. Everything else on the bike is exactly like my ty 250 except the angle of the front steering tower. I'm curious if the vin number might tell me something if anyone can help it is 434-008998. THanks for any info. Jbird

    Ty won't run

    Hey Steve,. I rebuilt an engine years ago and put to much oil in the crank thinking the bearings were new and should have some pre lubrication . it would foul plugs for quite some time before the crank got clear of the oil. Sounds similar to way your runs.

  10. Well I changed the swing arm and now it is aligned odd thing when comparing both swings arms it was hard to see any problem. Thanks for all the help.
  11. I lined up a straight board on the sides and I think I have a bent swing arm. The spacers are on correct and all else checks good, rear axle aligned, sprockets. Thanks for all the helpful information. I have another swing arm and will change it. This is a bike I just purchased and all I done was install a new tire so I don't know the history. I will get back will on the forum if that doesn't fix it. GOOD DAY. Jbird

  13. I did some measuring. The tire is about 8MM to the left in reference to the center of the swing arm. THe swing arm has the flat metal gussets. THe hub is centered in the rim. I removed the skid plate and took a picture from under the bike and added a picture. You can see the engine case seam which is the center and I added a center mark on the frame. The swing arm is visible if you look close and can see the tire is not in the center. Both my bikes are the came so I don't think they could both be bent the same. Just curious if this how they are built how May that effect how it handles. The sprocket is dished about 3 mm which I am sure is stock, I checked both bikes one is stock and the other is aftermarket. THe new tire is 400x18 although it is wider than the stock by about 6mm which is not unusual, different manufactures build them slightly different size. I did put a 4.50x18 on one bike, that required rebuilding the rear swing arm. Any one check their old ty 250 for sprocket alignment and is your tire centered in the swing arm? I'm in the U.S. And live in a remote area, not many trials bikes to check. Which brings up another subject you guys in the UK have so many trials bikes,wish I could figure out how to get them shipped for cheap. Thanks for the ideas. I'll do some measuring and get back .

  16. I recently put on a slightly larger tire on the rear of my 1974 ty250 and noticed the tire rubbing on the chain gard. After looking closely it appeared the rear sprocket was out board of the engine sprocket ( not aligned). Also the tire is not centered with the forks. I have two ty 250s the other is the same so I don't think it is damaged. I built a couple bushings to move the rear wheel to the right now it is aligned with the engine sprocket and centered in the forks. I haven't had a chance to give it a good test ride as it has not stopped snowing the last three months. So I'm curious if any have noticed this?

  18. Hey; Thanks for the help. I have two ty 250s both have 14/53 I assume they are stock? The 12/55 or 10/44 have close ratio and a big difference from what I have now, Can't wait to try it. Thanks again Jbird
