  1. One method I've used in the past is to buy matching bolts but an inch or so longer. It allows plenty of room to locate the plate holes to the frame and when wound in remove one at a time and fit the originals. You have to make sure you have enough room for the extra length of bolt though to miss the engine whilst winding it up but this used to work really well on my previous Rev3's. I have also used the ratchet strap method in the past as well as valium and the Samaritans.

  2.

Oop north a man was in the office of the Yorkshire Post talking about an obituary following the death of his wife. The couple had been happily married for 50 years.

When informed of the cost, the man uttered, in true Yorkshire fashion, "Arrrrr Much? !!!"

He reluctantly produced his wallet. "I want summat simple" he explained, "my

Gladys was a good-hearted and hard-working Yorkshire lass, but she wunt ave

    wanted owt s****y."

"Perhaps a small poem", suggested the woman at the desk.

"Nay", he said, "she wunt ave wanted anything la-di-da, just put; Gladys

    Braithwaite died'".

"You need to say when", he was told by the receptionist.

"Do I? Well, put died 17th Jan 2016. That'll do".

"It is usual for the bereaved to add some meaningful phrase about the dearly

    departed".

The man considered for a moment. "Well, put in, 'Sadly missed'. That'll do",

    he said.

"You can have another four words", the woman explained. "No, no", he cried,

"she wouldn' ave wanted me to splash out"

"The words are included in the price", the woman informed him.

"Are they? You mean I've paid for 'em?".

    "Yes, indeed".

"Well, if I've paid for 'em , I'm 'avin 'em".

The obituary was duly printed as follows:

Gladys Braithwaite died, 17th January 2016. Sadly missed. Also Tractor for sale.

  3. I have an H&D sumpsheild on my 15,when I fitted it I caught each bolt by a couple threads 1st before tightening then up a bit at atime, fits perfectly. Had to use the same method on the stock one too every time I straightened it.

Your not bashing rocks hard enough mate

  4. Are you sure your frame wasn't bent itself and that's why the bolt holes didn't line up? I know from past experience as will most that when you take a sump guard off chances are you'll need a big ratchet strap or something similar to get it back on again.

  5. Ethanol for all it's faults is attempting to push back the date when we have to really think hard about using oil as a fuel. Ethanol will never replace oil unless we all fancy starving to death and as far as I can work out, ethanol is virtually 1 energy in to produce 1 energy out, not a great economic plan. I always used Avgas in my Beta's, mixed 50/50 with high octane petrol, bikes ran sweet.

  6. We've seen over  30% inflation in just the past 10 years, an entry fee of £10 in 2006 needs to be at least £13 today just to keep up with inflation, go another 10 years and it needs to be near the £18 mark. If you do not keep in line with inflation on your sales then you will soon find yourself seriously out of pocket quite quickly.

  7. Dadof2 is using reason, I am not sure if that's what people want to hear on here. I agree that the people who make the thing are most likely to know what is the best grade of lubricant to use.

TC forum users, please do not ask any questions anymore about bike maintenance in the future, simply refer to your bikes owners manual.

  8. Dadof2, if you'd like to do some investigating please go directly to the accounts department at the EU Commission in Brussels and see if you can sign off their accounts for the past twenty years please as they've failed to do so in that time.

  9. I am currentely (with help) organising the 3rd rnd of a national championship series to run in april and our local club trial for this sun, believe me if the club had to pay me my working day hourly rate it would be bankrupt in 6mnths or less..Without the hundreds of volunteered man/woman hrs that we who are keen/daft enough to put throughout the country would there be trials at all??? NO. And I for one don't have time or inclination to break down entry fees to show what goes where.. If your that interested join a club and take some of the strain of organising an event off of the daft few who do for your enjoyment and you will see where your measely entry fee goes!!!!!!!

Very well said and exactly as it is, I have no interest at all where or what the money is spent on as I know the effort put in (free) and the enjoyment I will gain.

  10. Why do you think the advice given by posters on TC will be better than the manufacturers advice / handbook?

Years of tried and tested experience mate and no bias to oil companies. I always found Dexron III better than anything else in my Beta's regardless of what the book said. The fact it's cheap was a bonus not the reason for using it, and as it's cheap it can be changed very regularly.  Many companies have financial ties with other companies, not much point if you state in the handbook use whatever you find works best for the bike.
