  1. try berko club....one of the most popular clubs around thanks mainly to their practice ground..... www.berkotrials.com I'm on the committee and we have spent alot of time improving the ground. But you will have to improve your technique for mud, no getting away from that !!
  2. Quick update, the 2005 sachs shock I fitted seems to work fine. My son even commented he was getting more grip, could be the old one was more knackered than I realsised ! Speaking to other club members it seems it's a comman fault caused by the shock having the piston exposed to dirt at the bottom of the shock. You can apparantly turn it upside down and keep the shiny piston/stanchion part behind the air box and out of the dirt. Love to get peopls commetns on that one !
  3. Well I fitted the shock of a 2005 125 to the 2008 bike and although it ws perhaps 5-10mm shorter it seems to work fine. Not very "bouncy" but I was told the older shocks had more damping while newer bikes were more bouncy. All seems to work fine, although we are off for a practice this weekend to see what it's like when used in anger. Fingers crossed ! By the way this shock is a Sachs. Any comments welcome.
  4. Make sure you haven't fitted them upside down. I always thought I was a smart cookie.....but managed to do this once !!!
  5. To add to the confusion....I had a 2006 with a 2005 shock fiited no problem. I guess I'll find out later this week. As for the spring issue....it is sagging and this is due to a loss of gas...not a need for a more powerful spring. Cheers All
  6. Mudflap sounds like a good idea, I know my Beta has one and seems to work well......another mod added to the list. Cheers all for the advice, I think the shock I'm getting is actually a 2005 no idea what make ! JohnB can;t see the 2008 shock was adjustable for Damping either.
  7. Well, I've managed to get a shock from a 2006 125. As the fittings all look the same I'm hoping it will fit and work ok. I certainly won't be replacing with the same shock again. If anyone from MRS or Sherco is reading this....Please note it's things like this that will loose you sales in the future !!!!! And the damping is fine, just a lack of spring.
  8. What annoys me is that this 2008 has had the fan and now the shock break. The old 2006 was still on it's original rear shock and fan. Are they not building them to the same standard these days ? I don't remember spending this sort of money 20 years ago. and on a bike that's only two years old. http://www.trialscentral.com/forums/style_...icons/icon7.gif
  9. Right I've had a tinker with it and it doesnt seem to matter what pre load I put on the spring the shock botoms out. I assume as it's a gas filled shock the gas does most of the springing ? And therefore the gas has gone ? I have to say this Sherco is proving to be a pain in the *rse. I dread to think what a new Shock or aftermarket shock will cost...any comments ?
  10. I'm a bit puzzled by my lads 2008 125 academy. We went practising in the snow yesterday, and he was having trouble getting up some of the hills. I had a go on his bike and immediately notice his rear suspension was bottoming out. I recently had the rear suspension to bits to re grease and I'm wondering f I put it back together correct. Looking at the manula I downloaded from the MRS website it all looks on and in fact I can't see how it can go back together wrong. I did notice that our shock seems to be upside down, ie the adjuster rings are upper most ont the shock bu seem to be on the bottom in the diagram. The writing on the shock is the correct way up but this might not mean anything. So which is the right way up ??? Secondly I increased the tension on the spring by winding the spring tighter, but this seems to have made the bottoming out worse....any clues ? Any advice on this or set up would be welcome cheers. By the way he's about 11 stone and I'm 14 stone.....Christmas takes it's toll !!!
  11. Cheers, Forks have been stripped down to fit new seals.....hate this job !! Thanks again...
  12. I'm a bit confused, How much oil do I put in my sons 2008 125 ? According to MRS technical info a 125 has 330cc in each leg. But if you look accross the page it seems to give the year....So 06-09 it's 385 LH and 370 RH fork leg......I guess I'm going with the 385 and 370. Bit confusing though ? or is it me ? Cheers
  13. I have a classic car that still needs lead replacement added to the fuel. I use the Castrol Lead replacement and octane booster. This got me thinking that perhaps I could use it in the Trials bike (Beta Rev3 250 and Sherco 125) I realise it will have little performance benefit But might help the bike live a bit longer. I seem to remember reading that the old 500 GP bikes lasted alot longer before they switched to unleaded. Just a thought.....Any comments I can't see that it could hurt and the Sherco is supposed to run on 98 octane anyway.
  14. I guess seeing as it's no good to anyone....alot to grind away to uncover anything.....I have to admit I haven't tested to see if there's a break in any of the wires between the unit and the plugs...have to get my finger out this weekend !
  15. Yes I was lucky to be able to test it...Maes life much easier when you can do this sort of thing....still don;t like the idea of buying a new one !!
  16. Well my smug smile has now disappeared !! My son finished the last trial and the bike died....we just thought it had run out of petrol....But I went to start it today and no spark. My wire is still in place so no idea what's gone wrong....Luckily we had just bought a newer 08 Sherco, so swapped ign modules and it started....put the old one back and no joy. I'm guessing running the bike with the earth wire making intermittent contact might have doen some damage ? or something else has failed. Looks like I will be spending
  17. Well picked up a nice 2008 Sherco 125 and it seems the fan is knackered. runs ok but is very noisy, had a look and it seems the bearings are shot. New fans sem to be about
  18. Had a problem with my sons 125 and moving the plug lead around seemed to fix the bike...But after struggling to get it going after a heavy landing we noticed that the green and white earth wire had come out of the black ignition box thing....We poked it back in and amazingly finished the trial. Since then I've managed to grind the casing back and uncover a bit more wire, although I really didn't think it was going to work.....anyway I put loads of solder around the outcrop of wire, then soldered the wir back the the solder blob. Tested it and it worked !! Then smothered it in araldite to waterproof it. Just wondered if anyone else had had the same problem ? Thought it might help someone else. Anyone know how much these things cost ?
  19. Yep all fixed....I suspect it was the bolt on the back of the barrel. Cheers all.... But I have had anther problem....But I'll start another post.. Cheers
  20. Well, I went round and tightned up all bolts, bash plate bolts although not loose I could tighten them about 1 turn. Same for the Front engine mount. However I think I have made a big mistake by startin the bike up on the bike stand....on it's wheels it doesn't seem to vibrate too bad...Anyone else care to confirm that a bike will vibrate alot more on a solid stand ? fingers crossed !! I suspect it was the bolt at the rear of the barrel not helped by the others not being that tight. Cheers for all the help and advice !
  21. B*gger.... Vibration is still there. I have been informed that a loose or wobbly flywheel might be the cause....I'll take alook at this tongiht hopefully with a dial gauge. I checked bfore and there was no play, but I didn;t try and "wobble " it. I'll also go over all engine mounting bolts with a spanner rather than just check with my fingers. Trial on Sunday so I hope it's a quick and easy fix !
  22. Well I had a look the other night and the bolt going thru the bracket on the rear of thebarrel was loose. Too late to start the bike up...But hopefully this will cure it. Cheers for all the help !
  23. I hope so because the bash plate looks ok. I know there's a bracket from the barrel to the frame under the tank. I had to remove this to replace the piston, the allen bolts into the frame were a pig to remove, so maybe there were done up tight for a reason...I'll see if they have come undone tomorrow night....I'll check all bolts !!
  24. Just an update... I called MRS and spoke to a helpful chap who said it is most likely to be the rear bash plate bolt come undone....So I'll be checking that tonight. be nice if it was that simple....although bolting a bash plate on is never much fun ! cheers
  25. We finished a trial on Sunday, and my son stayed and had another 20 minutes practice. But came back complaining of vibration thru the handlebars. He insists he did nothing unusual !! but 14 yr olds say that alot ! Anyway, it does seem to be vibrating a bit more than I'd expect. Seems to be running fine no misfire. I wipped the stator cover off and there doesn't seem to be any play in the mains bearing. I haven't looked at the clutch side yet, but if that was worn I'd assume it would suck in gearbox oil and smoke alot. And I'm guessing a main bearing wouldn't go just like that ? could it be a big end ? I recently (5 trials ago or more) replaced the piston and rings and top end. No play in big end then. Anyone got any clue what might have caused a sudden increase in vibration ?? anything appreciated !! Cheers Martin
