ACU Youth riders must compete on the correct capacity machine. For youth A that is 125cc, however, you can ride as an adult when you are 16 and therefore use any capacity machine. That said, although you are riding as an adult at 16, because you are under 18 you will need a parent or guardian to sign the entry for for you. I hope this clarifies the situation Just a bit extra to add....I thought you could only ride a 250 as an adult in the calender year you become 17 ? So if your birthday is on 30 June you will have to finish the year you are 16 on a 125 then on 1 Jan you can ride a 250. It's how I understood the ACU rules....I'm no expert but would like any experts out there to confirm it... I know I could read the ACU handbook !!!

Bought some for my son last week. Fitted a treat ! and made a big difference from the cr*ppy alloy ones his bike came with. Should have done this 2 years ago. Just one warning....I fitted the first side and it was a bit stiff....decided the frame mounts needed "massaging" a little. As I took the bolt out the spring shot over my shoulder never to be seen again ! Had to pay

I make sure the presure washer gets off all dirt, then dry the bike a bit and then at a later date use the dry lube stuff. Nothing sticks to it and so far chain and sprockets are lasting well. I never remove the chain to clean it these days....seems a waste of time. Must be better for the chain not to have grit stick to it ???

I can't really comment on the Youth A sections, but the youth B seemed fine. Not too terrible for the lesser riders but technical enough to steal points from the top lads. Great Venue, good facilities, sections not too far apart. I really enjoyed it. Best round of the year for me and the lad. Shame it's soo far away !

I would leave it as it is.....you should finish the trial much quicker with that set up !

I just fitted a new fork seal in the left leg (spring side) and the manual says 350cc and also says 120mm from the tio of teh fork leg. Which is correct ? 350cc doesn't take it anywhere near. I am assuming the fork is extended when measuring ? Any advice on the correct level welcome ! Cheers

Totally agree re minders riding. My lad had a big crash on section 6 and had to retire due to bike damage, if I had been there I might have caught him, but I was down in sections 1-4 about 1 mile away ! And I only got there in time to see him head off to section 5. If you include tough sections (which you obviously have to) then you need to make sure the minders can get there. Even more so with Youth A I'd have thought. I don't know much about the next round other than knowing I will have to run (walk, crawl) around the track and then drive 300 miles home and go to work the next day. Falling asleep is never a good thing at work.....especially when your a 747 pilot, (just kidding for those nervous flyers). This is not a critisism of the club, Judging by the scores they got it about right, and had to use the land as they did.

The montesa dogbone links or link were available from a supplier on ebay with normal bearings, sounded like a good idea to me....can't be too difficult to make up some dog bones with plain bearings (like wheel bearings maybe).

One more thing that slightly annoys me.....those bl**dy stopwatches, observers seem to spend as much time resetting them as they do timing people. Surely there are cheap stopwatches that you click a button to start , one to stop and another to reset? Sorry it's a very trivial thing I know, but adds to the queing time.

Anyone know where I can get a very small registration number plate for my trials bike, I know it's illegal etc. Obviously made of Aluminium so it doesn't break, and I guess something 4" x 4" ?

Sorry I'm being really lazy here, can someone confirm that normal brake fluid is ok in a sherco. I understand Gagas need mineral oil ? Also are there any specific anti freeze solutions I need to use. I tend to use the pink long life stuff in cars as it has better anti corrosion properties. Currently seems to have some blue stuff in it. Thanks

What a great venue, fantastic weather. Really enjoyed the trial, but I guess have to agree it was a bit on the easy side and if observers are a problem why not make it four laps. On a side note, do they make speed cameras somewhere nearby ? never seen so many in so few miles ! Anyone have the full results, can't find them... Cheers

At our club (Berkhamsted MCC) we have over 300 members mainly as a result of having a nice little practice ground. We make it mart of the rules that each member has to observe once each year, (I think this can slip into a second year). This means we have a committe member responsible for getting the members to observe. As you can imagine I'd guess out of the 300 members probably only 100 ride in events, so most need some training in observing. We provide this 2 or 3 times a year as well. Despite all of this effort and planning we still sometimes end up 1 or 2 observers short. Luckily we also have this hard core of regulars that often step in and make the trial possible. If a lad can ride the Youth B route even though he's old enough to be Youth A....then surely I can ride Youth A and not be eligable for points....Cos I'm a tad over 17....??? I say watch out for the highest score at the next round !!

I decided after the first lap that I would wait at section 8 for the lad to come round again, I couldn't find anyone else to help me....no mates were avaialble that had basic mechanical skills and no one including the wife wanted to get up at 4am that day. Strange that. Mudder than normal ? You can never have enough mud !!

If you are going to complain...you need to spell it correctly. I thought the sections were spot on....If I had to complain...It was hard work walking around the course !! Why can't minders ride as well ?

Well I throw in my views.... Not a big fan of double subs...I forget too easily where I'm going, and it causes bigger queues. But on the other hand Oxford Ixion have always use double subs and it makes a change. Severity of sections was spot on, no rain for a change ! and as someone else said, all finished before 2pm. I like the earlier start time ! Bit of ground is pretty good, and they often have a graded hill climb which my son loves ( not this time though). Always seem to enjoy their trials, bit of a trek for us to go but always worth the effort. As for the markers....just keeps yo on your toes !

Certainly don't want to rock the boat ! My son and I don't have the experience to really crtisice the course. Just thought the scores pointed that way. Maybe, as you say, it's just a tough trial. We'll have to see what the next round is like in Sidbury. Lets hope my van gets us there with a bit less drama this time ! last 2 miles stuck in first gear !

Dare I say the course was too hard ? For so many Youth A to to score over 100 seems to indicate it was too hard ? Not complaining as I know how hard is is too set out sections, and testing these lads is always going to be tough. Seems alot of marks could have been saved if the time limit of 90 seconds could have been increased, or maybe the sections were a little too long ? Time limit didn't seem to be any issue for the Youth B route but again scores seemed a bit too high. Thoroughly enjoyed the day, trial was run very professionaly and results on the PC by the time we got home.

So Mr Trialsnutterman, does this mean the suspension linkage and geometry hasn't changed since before 2005 till today ? Nice to know. By the way the 2005 shock I have in my sons 2008 is working fine, he's finding plenty of grip and still hopping it around.
