mich, maybe im wrong I thought you were for a 125 high school and youth class at the nationals and a 125 youth natinal class. Where does that leave the other kids on bigger bikes would there be 2 high school classes and 2 youth classes with only 3-4-5 in it at each national and a double set of youth national winners or would the kids on the larger bikes be excluded from youth classe, high school class and the youth nationals
paul I agree being able to learn a paticular technique is better than keepiing up. So should i keep him riding the same thing over and over. Without a club, and the fact that i absolutly suck at riding especialy compared to the other fathers/minders i cant teach him much. We have a group of riders in our area that ride expert and sr expert at regional events which computes to support line at the nationals. Riding with them helps him a lot plus a lot of fun. Should i tell them ride only the easy stuff when my kids around
I also figure a young Colorado rider must be Bailey Tucker. Being younger than the rest and already on a 250 last year you would think he wouldnt have enough tequinique and should struggle. I saw him ride in oklahoma a couple months ago he looked pretty good to me. Next year 125 class should be interesting.
I asked around about bike size a couple of years ago the advice i got a couple of years ago from a couple of fathers told me get him on a full size as soon as hes confident with it those 125s are a pain to mess with and arent real practical if you own 2 or 3 other bigger bikes. There kids done quite well maybee theve changed there minds I dont see them posting on this matter maybe there just not vocal or maybee their kids have passed the 125 age and it doesnt make any difference.

thats great hes an excellent rider and may some day be a national champ. so who will he compete against in the 125 expert at the nationals. How many would he be competing with if he rode the regular expert class I see little wrong with a 125 expert class the natc set up this year.just ope it doesnt go further. If it is okay to ride against bruce and chris who is out there on a big bike that needs to be excluded.
Like i said earlier its about having fun or at least is for us. Weve never ridden a national and plan to next year think it would be fun but it sure seems gets complicated if theres 2 classes for youth and hs or only one class 125 only.

Watch out!! there are those who would require as stated full face helmet gogles other restrictave gear or cc requirements or even go as far as ban trials or otherl motorized sports making that same statement.
-
I agree with helmets and everyone i know wears one. What i see that looks dangerous to me is practicing difficult stuff (stuff challaging your abillity) without a spotter. Helmets do a good job of protecting heads a good spotter(s) protects the whole body and the bike. If i had to choose between a good spotter and a good helmet i would choose both. I have some friends who use boat kill switches a little inconvienent hooking them up after a crash but no tire in the face and no blown enginge throttle stuck wide open crashes but it still doesnt take the place of a good spotter.

we really enjoyed belle 2 years ago great sections they were twice as long as anwhere weve been was tied up and missed last year didnt know you had 2 events there any chance of a two day there next year if you guys are going out to belle to practice sometime email me we might join you. Park hills is probly 4 hr drive
-
Actualy I dont think in his case it would but it might in some cases and maybe in most cases. Hes 12 our goal is to have fun. Once he passed me up he is forced (i should not say forced he likes it) to keep up with the better riders and he thrives on that. Imagine a club with 2 lines novice and expert. You have mastered the novice clean every section now you have to move up to expert on a 125
He is 12 his classes were too easy last year it probly helped him score better because he usually dosent lose his cool. You definatly have to learn tequinique on a 125 but there are other ways shorten it up, tighten it up, ride it in first gear and if your not 100% sure use a spotter and better yet someone besides me who can teach tequinique.
If there comes a day when hes showing up the few local riders then if i can aford it doing it on a 125 might be a smart idea who knows we might switch to a 125 a year or so down the road but it would sure be nice to make that decision myself. I hope in our quest to develop the next US world champ we dont take the fun out of it. In my opinion if we keep it fun it will grow and the logistics and sheer numbers will produce the world champion.
When i went to the world round i was impressed with the foreign youth riders. but i was more impressed with Smage a farm boy with only a barn to ride in in the winter none of the advantages of the freign riders a club in every state or 2 not every county. There are a lot of championions who are never crowned championions but they are still champions in my book.
Smage isnt the only one out there either he is just the one of many i happened to mention

thanks for the info alan, Thats the way i understood it from the begining and i dont fault the one added class something had to be done to satisfy the demand for a 125 class. Seems to me that many wont be satisfied untill we reach the point that everyone under 18 riding a larger bike has to ride sportsman or even worse our goverment tells us that they can only ride 125s. Homer may be the only one a 125 is not practical for. In our area he has 3 choices ride a 125 the same lines as me (weak amatuer) and get bored riding in a parade like enviroment ride , a 125 in the expert lines with the other old men and crash crash crash untill he improves, or ride a 280 in the expert lines with the other old men and only crash crash. Im concerened about the future rules not current rules Seems to me it would be selfish if i advocated that all other youth ride larger than 125s so they would not have an advantage in later years. yet many would like to see larger bikes banned completely. Its not about deciding what your kid rides its about deciding what somebody elses kid rides. Lifes a lot less complicated just riding for fun on the farm i could easily become a recluse like every one else in my area (no club) but id sure miss that friendlness and helpfullness from the trials comunity when we get out. Hoping to make colorado national, possibly tennesee national, whole week at youth nats and would love to do the 7 events in 9 days at donner and new mexico. all those would be a stretch ill have to make some tough choices.
-
Thats the plan jr this year and hs later if he gets better and it should work unless there is more changes we havent heard about. Alan what have you heard? The Natc site still has 06 rules posted.
-
my plans are for 1 or 2 possibly more. If there is not a class for him other than sportsman then we will probly stay home and ride the 280 at the farm and save some bucks. Let me know whats up we have no club so we have no club rep.
-
Here we go again
So if your from a remote area where riding a 125 is not practical what do you do stay home? Does anyone out there belive the reason the euros are so good is because of the amount of competition. Is eliminating competion (restricting to 125s only) a good idea. I thought the 125 idea was so you have to struggle to get traction. If you eliminate half the competion dont you eliminate the struggle. What is wrong with the current way ride what ever bike you want but if you want to become a future star stay on a 125 and beat those 280s after all to the majority opinion is they are not serious riders anyway or they would be on a 125.
-
Wow!!!! I just noticed for the youth riders riding nationals aug aug 4-12 5 events at Donner s-s-m-t-w two travel days then s-s at new mexico thats 7 events in 9 days. All I need is time and money
-
Sorry steve I dont think were going to make Homer and i inherited our my old hobby this week that im actualy good at milking holsteins. I really really wanted to make it just like last year ill say maybe next year
-
Ok lets say a 125 is safer than a 280 and kids crash more on a 280 than a 125. Usually but not always less crashes equals less points. That makes the 125 have an advantage over a 280 as far as who gets the lowest score so lets run them all in the same class and let whoever thinks a 125 is best suited for them ride a 125 and whoever thinks a 280 is best suited for them ride a 280.
-
Never been to cotopaxi is it good? Whats the elevation? spark arresters required? The family been wanting to vacation there. I Have a friend that has a cabin 30 miles away.
-
Let me explain what i was talking about where i am from there are a loose knit bunch of riders no events no clubs just trials riders sometimes the novice riders go out and ride novice sections and the expert riders go out and ride expert sections and you take a choice. So he can go out and ride novice sections and learn nothing or he can go with the big boys and learn a lot. I shouldnt have said over his head but difficult is a better word. This may be a long hill climb a 3-4 foot splatter ect. i think he would crash more on a 125 than on a 280. Less crashes equals safer. He might have better tequinice riding a 125 andcould be a better rider in the future with a 125 but thats debatable are goal is to have fun not win championships.
-
hey onestop i rode a mita eventa at belle mo 2 years ago. great event longest sections i ever seen. we loved it as a matter of fact when we lay out a section at home that ends up extra long we call it a st.louis section. Sure hope you guys put on another 2 day at belle next yr.
-
shouldnt a couple of sections be included that no one can clean unless he is the king of sandbaggers it doest have to be dangerous just super technical. just my opinion Oklahoma has the best place to ride puts on a great pro class but the sections are easier than texas and kc. If you make 1 mistake it in some classes it cost you 5 places. I know it is hard to do but if its set up where the winner comes in at 8-9-10 pts and 3rd place in the high teens. As far as making it easy for the lesser riders and im one of them if you cant stand the heat get out of the kitchen.
-
I was there i saw them they are fantastic amazing great riders. I wonder why could it be because there goverment could not distingush between the need to limit overpowered street bikes from trials bikes and FORCE them to ride 125s or could it be they have access to a close event every week, someone to practice with during the week champions living in the neighbor hood , a public that is more aware of trials ect to many advantages to list could be both. We currently have a few that are staying on the 125 and a few on big machines when there all on big bikes together we will then know whether the 125 helps much. In the mean time were going to segrgate the kids. If the 125 riders kick butt when they all get back together on big bikes we could have 2 pro classes one for those who had the advantage of being on a 125 till they are 17-18 and 1 for those who didnt Know im sounding like Mich enough said

I had to leave early at oklahoma another grand son being born ( one every 6 months for last 2 yrs) and they havent posted results yet but i heard in one class they tied with clean loops and decided first on loop time i know there was another class that had a clean loop winner and 8 pts good for 6th or 7th. almost the same way last year. Makes it tempting to ride up a class and set a goal of staying out of last place if everyone did that it might make it interesting.
-
Im not really thinking about homer at least not yet im pleased that the youth class was left alone. The way i understnd it the 125s will ride the expert line the high school class will ride expert support however those that have been currently riding the high school class on a 125 may elect to stay in the high school class rather than move up to the expert line.and in rethinking that might work. looking at the results last year the high school class was won by a 250 rider who will probly go to the expert class btw Tucker could be the most under rated rider in the US if hes only 13 he definatly looks like he could be a future national champ The mizell twins are on full size bikes also and those boys seem to work a little harder than the rest they are real good boys. I will say this the NATC that many gripe and complain about seem to have done a good job of satisfing everybody if it doesnt go any further than these current restrictions i would say fine. The most positive thing about this in a few years it should be perfectly clear as to how much difference if any riding a 125 makes. Question remains how many rode the expert line on a 125 last year and how many in this new class this year?

Some people just love to impose to impose thier will on others.
Im glad in the trials world in this case were still living in the land of the free kind of. Is there something wrong with kids riding for fun in a class with other kids with no plans for riding in Europe. A 125 might be the right choice for some kids most kids but we haave a divirse trials scene here in the U S. kids ride different and in remote areas sometimes they have to ride what the adults ride or sit out and watch. When forced to ride things a little over your head a little extra power isnt a bad idea or at least it is a safer idea.
What we have now if i understand it correctly is let anyone ride what they want but if your kid just riding for fun on full size but i dont want him beating my kid on a 125 and discouraging him. I think im ok with that. This will work well and definatly would if trials was all about the bike and not the rider. I kinda new at trials we will all find out in 5 or so years when everybody is back in the same class. Im saying natural talent, PRACTICE, and who is training them will be the reason for 99% of the success. Give the U.S. kid a event every week a vast number of good riders to work with him and a opertunity to practice with other kids and we would eat up the trials scene just like mx.

Is there still a high school class riding the same line allowing those on full size bikes to compete in?

Sure hate to hear David Chaves cant make it before he went back to Spain. Ill never forget and im sure Homer wont either 3 years ago he put on a school at octobertest. Homer was there on a Beta 50 auto hed only been riding for 3-4 months it broke down half way thru the school. He rode with David standing on his feet while David was doing some real cool stuff a little later david said " boy you want to ride my bike" Homer had a blast puttng around on Davids bike.
