Gas and Gas Ossa allied to the great group of Catalan mountain bike

Manufacturers have already unified purchases from suppliers, to develop a new medium that versionarà motorcycle enduro for both brands in 2013

    ELENA FREIXA

    Barcelona | Updated on 06/06/2012 10:22

Catalan manufacturers of motorcycles mountain Ossa and Gas Gas have launched a partnership to become a large group of motorcycle trial 'made in Catalonia. The two companies will collaborate on developing models, extending the range of segments and take advantage of the Ossa Gas Gas distribution network, which has a higher dimension.

The preliminary agreement, which has advanced on Wednesday the newspaper 'Expansion', is to go closer ties in the coming years and, in the medium term could end with the merger of both companies Girona. Currently, manufacturers do not speak a total integration, but the collaboration to be more competitive abroad.

The operation will multiply the productive capacity and to foster international growth, according to the ARA director of Ossa, John Gurt. He explained that in recent months has been set up joint purchasing of components between the two manufacturers.

Ossa, in fact, had planned to build a new plant in Girona the coming years, but now you can make to the facilities of Gas Gas, who have the capacity to manufacture 30,000 units and now makes about 9,000 a year .

The first tangible result of this alliance will be a new motorcycle endurance that will be released in 2013. The jointly develop the next few months both manufacturers and end up taking place, with modifications, for the two brands in the Gas Gas factory in Salt. In Figueres, home of Ossa, it will mount the other two models of the brand, although Gurt said that if agreement could end up being advanced as a center of engineering and R & D.

The alliance between the two Catalan companies has come through conversations that favored when the Government released the latest line of credit to industry and a plan to ensure the future of the industry at a time when major international manufacturers ( Yamaha, Honda and Derby) have left or are on the way to stop producing motorcycles in Catalonia.

"If we want to grow and be competitive and strong, the union can give us many opportunities," said the director of the NOW Ossa. In fact, the mark of Figueres, will benefit from the Gas Gas distribution network and can expand production capacity. "If before 2000 could accept orders, we can now produce 5,000 or 6000," he calculated.

In 2011, manufactured 9000 Gas Gas trial bikes and enduro and the turnover was 40 million. The company is owned by Vector Capital, a venture capital company Caixa Penedès. Ossa was revived in the hands of three partners and shareholders in Figueres in 2008 and last year produced some 1,300 units of its two models of trial and Alpine. The turnover exceeds five million annually.

  3. I was under the impression that Honda owned and made the bikes. Speaking to someone who works for Honda they were under the impression that they just supplied the engines.

So question is how much is Honda parts on the bikes?

Honda owns Montesa....................At last count Honda had factories in over 23 countries around the world. The factory in Spain is called Montesa-Honda.

Just because someone "works for Honda" doesn't mean they know everything that goes on within the company. With a company that big, probably few do.

  4. rear shock 35.000 euro's ( thats development costs included ) and i've heard the whole bike 300.000 (again development costs incl.)

big difference is the weight of the bike (+- 65 kg) and the power ( 300 cc and very trick injection ignition ) and suspension

but the stock 4rt is a nice bike to ride not as capable like the 2 stroke stuff but more than capable for 90% of trials riders

No one here knows the cost of Bou's bike. Any numbers given are pure speculation.. The main differences are HRC motor 300cc, Factory Showa suspension and weight. Lots of titanium and magnesium bring it down the the FIM minumum for WTC.

None of the factory boys ride standard bikes. Its just that some factory teams provide their riders with better equipment than others. Enjoy your bike and tell the critics to stuff it!

  5. I have seen this advertised on ebay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170795668109

I have never been happy with my front brake on my montesa, one minute it has long traveland the next its fine, are these really as good as people say they are?

Are they worth the money and do i just bolt it straight on?

any advice would be great, thanks

From what describe, your front brake needs to be rebuilt. Either the master cylinder seals are gone or the calipers are leaking. Or you are low on fluid.....It is a Grimeca? I would get it working correctly before I spent any money on a Nissin.

  6. Beautiful bike Greeves! all original parts are there. it will make a beautiful restoration. I have the same bike...I think it is a 1971 mk2. what is the frame number?

  7. I"m brand new to trials and got a 2006 Montesa 4t. It was ridden pretty hard for 5 years before I bought it. I've noticed I have a lot of front fork bottom-out on small jumps. The rear seems really soft but not near as bad as front. Simple front tire bouncing takes a ton of knees and it barely moves. I see videos of so many riders who seems to flick the front tire around with easy hopping. I've tried all adjustments.

Question is, how long does the suspension on a cota 4t last before springs are giving out and losing life? I had the fork oil changed recently by a tech and he said it hadn't ever been done. Does anyone know what it takes to "re-build" the front suspension? Cost and labor?

Thanks very much for any input!!!

    Rick

Most trials riders ignore suspension until it leaks. The fork springs don't really "give out" unless it suffered some serious abuse in its previous life, the oil change and proper adjustment is all it needs. If as you say it "barely moves" then something it not right.

You say the forks "bottom easy" and then you say it takes a "ton of knees" to make it hop. These statements seem contradict each other. Where are your settings? Back to standard?

A rebuild on the rear shock it a good idea. Fresh oil and a recharge will breath new life into it.

  8. Don't know if it is available in Braveheartland but here in the US we use Rust-oleum Professionsl High Performance Enamel #7519 Stainless Steel color available at your local hardware store in an aerosol spray can and the color is very close to the stock Montesa silver.

    Rust-Oleum UK

  9. Rob Edwards???? Surprised! I didn't know he wore Clice.

Harry Everts, I'm surprised he could squat like that. I've met Harry and he can walk but not run. He had polio as a kid.

Anyway, make that four I know.

I'm with Tim on this one. It doesn't look like Rob Edwards and these are all Bultaco riders.

  10. :agreed: Well said woody. Why is it that so many from the other side of the pond dont understand what Trials is about and seem to want to turn it into a Circus stunt show?

Just for the american contingent :bouncy::bouncy::bouncy::bouncy:

Please don't judge all American trials riders based on the comments of one. There are many well informed and experienced people in North America able to discuss the sport from all perspectives.

  11. Just for fun

    Can you name these riders?

Good luck- its not that easy I reconIMAG0999-1-1.jpg

Please don't spoil it , if you have the poster at home(with riders names)

Wow what a group. Only know half.

F Row L to R: Schreiber, ?, Ignacio Bulto,?, Toni Elias Sr ,?, ?, ?, ?, ?, Marcel Weirtz, Manuel Soler, Narcis Casas.

Back Row: ?, ?, Pedro Taule, Javier Cucurella, Alan Lampkin, ?, ?, Martin Lampkin, ?, ?, ?, Charles Coutard, Vesty, Thorpe, Fernando Munoz

  12. Hey, when you "No Stop" zealots go and compete at other sports or activities, um, lets say Golf for example? Do you take out your "Flintstones" era rock headed 3 wood or driver, and leather wrapped ball, and then pine around and tell everyone you know, how it would be more fun if nobody can use techniques we've learned in the past 100 freaking years?

Sounds stupid when you say it out loud, "Lets all go back to 1970's era rules... yeeeeaaaah"

I golf, I can hear you scream, Hey he's choking up on the club, or making the ball spin backwards on the green, I cant do that, that is unfair and (not as fun)!

Well, to me, This is what you are blabering about when the NO STOP zealots refuse to learn to hop and or the other techniques, but want the sections redone to suit you and your antiquated riding style.

BTW, Dont you all already have a governing/sanctioning body for old style riding??? Start your own "old farts on old bikes sanctioning body" and if need be "old farts on new bikes" sanctioning body? and while you are at it, riding with helmets seems to be "newfangled" along with stopping and hopping, so lets sneak a vote to dissallow them... I mean they didn't wear them in the 1903 until about 1980. wow, I think some good old Bell helmet hats and wool stocking caps would be a boon for getting teenagers interested in riding antique rules and bikes?

Quit trying to take trials back to the stone ages, quit trying to make the boyscouts do girlscout's crap

It is just typical Horse Crap, Zealots dont wanna do it, and aint gonna do it, but to be competitive and "fun" to them, they are going to change the stupid rules for everyone else?

To summarize: if its old it must be worthless.

  13. And what is any different with the GG/Yamaha from the Montesa/ Honda - Haven't we all seen the RTL versions sold in Japan with Honda Stickers ??? :moon:

Montesa is owned by Honda. Gas Gas is not owned by Yamaha.

Why doesn't Gas Gas use their own 450 in Dakar?

  14. Sorry if I hurt your feelings about the Montesas but letus face the fact that Tony Bou's machine is much further from the production bikes than the machines from the other manufacturers. While I am sure that all top team riders have some "works" parts on their machines the bikes from GG,Beta,Sherco and Ossa are MUCH closer to production bikes than the mega-dollar Honda/Montesa's ! We have all heard the vast amounts of money Honda has spent on these exclusive machines for many exotic parts that are not available to the public. Not that there is anything wrong with that, as they can afford it. The newest Raga Bikes from GasGas are Much closer to what Adam rides than any production 4RT is to Tony's machine !

All bikes have their problems as well. When I purchased a new 4RT in 2005 I had the bike for less than one month before it kicked back when starting and broke the mounting boss from the inner crankcase where the kickstart stop was attached - this after me having to replace the stop's mounting bolt as a factory recall. The bike was ruined and went back to the importer. The selling dealer refunded my money and I re-invested in my first of many Raga bikes, all which have been very reliable for me. Now I am not trying to say that any bike is perfect, but before you start calling anyone else here in the US a "jackhole" why don't you try to direct your own negativity somewhere else and realize that even your beloved Cota is not perfect!!! And at least our top riders here can compete in their own National Championship and still ride by the rules of the WTC ! :moon:

All true. Yes, the other brands works bikes are closer to production and yes the 4RT is not perfect and had a kickstart recall. No argument here. I see nothing wrong with "works" bikes.

What I am ranting about is the endless anti-Montesa carping that comes from the Gas Gas camp here in the US. It starts at the top and goes down. Its ugly and negative.

As for understanding this debate ....How many No Stop trials have you ridden? Have you ridden the SSDT? There is much value in what these experienced men have said here.

There is a similar argument in Motocross VS Supercross. Many riders and fans prefer outdoor, grass roots, natural MX and some like Supercross. Am I a Flintstone because I want to see the Ryans duke it out on a natural track like Unadilla? No that is the "core" of the sport and moto people have embraced the roots of their sport.

  15. Achieving a clean with a non-stop ride is arguably more difficult as you only get one go, you have to plan a line and stick to it. Make a mistake and go off it and it will cost you marks. Allowed to stop, you can repeatedly correct mistakes by hopping back on line and achieve a clean. Which is why stop and hop sections have to more difficult in order to take marks - which is where the problem begins.

Well said Woody. That is where the problem begins.

A hopping section full of little boxes can only be enjoyed by a rider with those skills, but a no stop section can be enjoyed by all.

  16. Let's give credit to the companies who actually sell what they use in competition. Too bad Honda will only build a few works bikes while not providing better equipment to their customers !

Yes, like THIS FAKE official Gas Gas factory entry in the Dakar....it's a Yamaha with Gas Gas stickers on it!!!

Sorry, I don't mean to hijack the thread but here in the US these jackholes are always bagging on the Montesa. They create a lot of negativity in our sport.

Now to be fair I'll say something about No Stop.....the most important factor in our sport needs to be FUN....make the sections fun to ride and marked simply and get rid of the little boxes and "rat mazes"

  17. Let's give credit to the companies who actually sell what they use in competition. Too bad Honda will only build a few works bikes while not providing better equipment to their customers !

Right ......and Cabby never used Showa forks and Raga never used a Showa shock and they never used DID rims on their works bikes all the while they were selling the customers bikes fitted inferior components.

They all ride works bikes = not standard.

Why did this No Stop debate turn into a Honda slagging contest. The people that have 4 RTs are happy. Quit trying to tell them they should be unhappy.

If you want to demand some thing from the factories that will benefit the sport ask them for improved quality.

  18. Good point but look at it another way....

There are over 1000 Osets in the UK, if availability of bikes is an issue where are all these when we run a conducted trial?

The OSET will save the sport.
