  1. Mine is a 1990 and takes a 120 (4.00) conti trail tyre. I had a 130 michelin enduro knobly on it and it fitted apart from a tiny bit on the chain guard but i chopped the edges of the knobbles off one side !
  2. I would VERY highly recomend a Yamaha serow xt225. They are just brilliant. I passed my driving test earlier this month and have started riding it on the road but ive had it since i was 15. I've used it for a lot of offroad stuff and it is so capable. It has enough power for most things, is light enough and is very easy to handle. My dad has one too and we just spent a 3 days trail riding in cumbria on TRF routes and neither of us had any troubles, both bikes are 1990. Bits are readily available and not dear. I am 6'1" and weigh 15 stone, and the bike is fine for my size. My dad's mate had the alp 200 with the suzuki engine and the serow is MUCH nicer. Better to ride and probably better made. Once again, highly recomended!

    Gearbox Oil

Hello, i have a 2000 250 beta rev3 and im not sure what the previous owner has done so i want to change the transmission oil. I was wondering what grade of oil to use. In the book it says 20w-30 but the only gearbox oil i have is some 70w-80 and ep90. I also read somewhere oils have different ratings for gearboxes and crankcases and was wondering if maybe the beta book gives a crankcase rating because i have never seen gearbox oil with a rating as thin as 20w-30. Also the clutch drags slightly when the oil is cold and i'd quite like it to not do this i was wondering if people know which oils are bad for this. Thanks for any help

    Boots

Thanks for the replys, i have got a pair of alpinestars on ebay I tried on a pair of alpinestars tech3 motocross boots and they were extremely rigid and hard and i was wondering if the trials boots will be any more flexible and softer because the tech3s really restricted movement. Can anyone give me an opinion?
  8. Hello again, i have been looking further into buying boots and i have found a few pairs although most seem to be too expensive like the hebo boots and the sidi zeros. The diadora stone 2 is about right in terms of price and the alpinestars no stop looks good but is a bit pricey. I was wondering if people could tell me what these boots are like if they own them and also if they could recomend any other boots between 100 and 150 quid. Thanks for your help.
  9. I think it must be similar as it is membership os the scottish auto-cycle union (SACU)
  10. Well I don't think its too powerful for me, I have had a lot of experience riding bikes offroad and I am a big guy (6'1" and 15 stone). I had a go on a 2006 125 gasgas and it seemed a bit gutless, the 250 beta seems pokey enough but not out of control. You are probably right about the helmet, it is very elderly. I think the lanarkshire club sounds good as I stay 200m from the scottish borders, in lanarkshire and galashiels isn't far from where i stay. Thanks very much for all that information, I shall be making further enquireys before long
  11. Hello everyone. I am considering getting a lisence and joining a club but i have no idea how go go about it. I am 17 and have a 250cc, can I compete on this bike??? I am located in the scottish borders 20 miles south of edinburgh and was wondering what clubs there are around here to join. My dad dug out an ancient fantic motors fluorecent orange helmet for me to wear which fits ok and i have motocross gloves, but i still need boots and trousers. I'm not wanting to spend megabucks, but at the same time i want something comfy and decent enough to last a while. Is there any particular brands i should look out for and are there any cheap places on the net that sell trials clothing. Thanks for any help, Lachlan.

    Beta Rev3 Running In

Thank you all very much for your help, i will take all this into account I hope to be reassembling it tomorrow after school and i will get back to you if there are any problems. Thanks again, Lachlan.
  13. Hello again, my shiney barrel just got back from langcourt after they removed the deep gouges left in it by the piston, and so i now have all the parts to put together the bike again. I was just wondering if anyone could recomend tips for running the new piston in, i.e. time and rev limit? Also anytihng i should be checking as i reassemble? The bike is a 2000 250cc rev3. Thanks for any help
  14. You can get a full set (4 bearings) from ebay for

    Beta Rev 3 Parts

I have actually made some progress with the current wheel. I removed the rim and stood on it/bent it back into shape, relaced it and trued it up. It looks ok now, just has a fairly noticeable flat spot (perhaps 4-5mm inwards from the rest), but I don't think you'll notice it when riding. I'm gonna put it back on and see how it fares and if needs be replace it when it goes out of true. Atleast this spreads out the financial damage of the incident.
  16. Cheers guys, I will give it a go
  17. How is this done. I have taken the wheel out, removed both the pressed in spacers and the circlip from one side, but I just can't see how to remove the bearings themselves. Can anybody shed light on this situation? Cheers edit: I fogot to say this is the rear wheel.

    Beta Rev 3 Parts

There is no doubt there are countless ways we could have stoped it. So bloody annoying. Thanks for the advice, I will check out lampkins asap
  19. Using a valve core extractor does allow you to put in more air quicker, I'd give it a go. It usually works just getting the compressor completely full and blasting air in as fast as possible. Is your rim clean and smooth, if not air might leak out where there is rust/grit.
  20. Hello, new to trials, been offroad since i was 4 but this is all new to me. Fancied trying trials for ages and my dad got a Beta Rev 3 for my last birthday So anyway hello everyone and i hope that this forum will be a good resource of wisdom in my trialsing efforts! Lachlan

    Beta Rev 3 Parts

Hello, i'm new to the forum and the sport so hello. I have been riding bikes since i was 4 and for my 17th birthday last week my dad got a 2000 Beta Rev 3, very exciting. We had a major disaster though, the throttle cable came out its lug under the fuel tank and jammed and when my dad started it, it revved its head off, like a chainsaw. It doesn't have a kill switch fitted, so we tried to stall it, but failed and it drove itself into the shed, then we tried to get the plug cap off but kept getting electric shocks, and eventually the piston picked up on the barrle and it stopped We have been thinking of all the ways we could have stopped it now and both feel really stupid, but whats happened has happened and we just need to fix it. So the front wheel is badly buckled and it needs a piston, rings, replated barrel a new front rim (32h) a spoke nipple and a KILL SWITCH now which is going to be dear, but I thought i might ask here if anyone can recomend a decent place/places to try for new parts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
