That jet block gasket is a commonly overlooked issue on carbs. Was your old one already flat even being a 2018? I saw a trick where you flip the carb upside down, fill it with fuel, and blow compressed air in the pilot jet and watch for air bubbles in the fuel to identify a jet block leak.

That's a really great tip! I knew mine was original, so I figured if it wasn't leaking now it would be soon so I didn't bother testing it.

Looks like I've reached my attachment limit here on the forum so no more pictures unfortunately. Not completely satisfied with the idle on the bike, it's slightly erratic. Suspecting possible leaking jet block gasket - got one from Jetsrus.com so I'll hopefully get that installed tonight.

Rear sprocket guard also installed... any of the newer sprocket guards from the pro models will also fit these older bikes in my experience.

Wanted to revive an old thread. The biggest benefit I see to Evans is the fact that it's waterless and should help resist corrosion for those of us with magnesium engine cases. However, once you factor in the Prep Fluid you're spending about $70 for the Evans Package. I also don't love the super high boiling point. I'm also considering Maxima Coolanol. They claim to use deionized water and that it's safe for magnesium cases. It's also less than $20! What are the thoughts from the group?

Patiently awaiting my order from The Tryals Shop in New York.... once these two guards are on I'll consider the project more or less done. So grateful people out there are still stocking parts for these old machines!!

Front fender got melted on the exhaust at some point... smoothed it out with a grinder and got it installed back on the bike.

At some point someone put a different silencer on the bike... made a crude retrofit bracket out of flat steel stock to hold it away from the rear tire.

Can't risk damaging that OEM headlight!

Local guy had an OEM rear brake rotor guard in his garage.... lucky find.

Thought the brake pads were shot, gave them a quick 'resurfacing' on the concrete of my driveway!! Before and after pics.

Local welder saved the day by extracting the broken off bleeder screw on the front caliper... The caliper threads were pretty bad. Chased them with an M10-1.00 tap and ended up just using it as a plug. Jitsie banjo bolt with integrated bleeder to the rescue!!

The entire kickstand assembly was missing when I got the bike. So happy to find a kickstand from a local.... these are nearly unobtainable, the bracket at least. Believe anything 1994-2012 is all the same.

Carb clean... just a simple clogged pilot jet. She's a runner!!

Picked this up last weekend as a non-running project for $750. Been working on it for the last week and she's running good now. Below is what I've had to do to it so far, it's almost done and ready to ride. I'll be doing a full youtube video on the process when I'm done - channel name is 'MrTwoSmoke'.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. We were leaning towards a 200 after reading the comments, but I ended up getting a 2014 GasGas TxtPro 250 on a trade deal for a motocross bike I just finished building. She's been able to start it without too much hassle so far. It definitely kicks over easier than my Raga 300. If repeated starting becomes a problem, we'll toss on a low compression head insert and see if that makes things easier 👍

I recently picked up an 04 GasGas TxtPro Raga 300 and am interested in finding a bike for my wife as well. She is a competent singletrack/enduro rider, intermediate I'd say. Trouble is, she's petite - 5'-2" and 120lbs. Good shape but not the strongest. She can't even kick my 300 over. I'm interested in picking up a smaller displacement bike that might be easier for her to start. We live at 5,000ft elevation and could ride as high as 10,000ft. I prefer to go gas over electric, we do a lot of extended trips deep in the mountains or desert far away from a charging source. Would a 125 have too little power, especially considering our elevation? I'm leaning towards a 200 because although she's a decent rider, I don't want her overwhelmed with all the clutching a 125 might require. The main benefit I see with the 125 is I imagine it would be easier to kick over. I'd like to keep the budget around 2k USD... in my area that buys me an older GasGas/Sherco 125 or 200 most likely. Is the Sherco kickstart system easier than the 'short throw' TxtPro kickstarter?

I'm a brand new trials rider, so I have no other feedback other than I bought the IRC TR-11 due to them being half the cost of the Dunlop TL01 or Michelin X-11. The TR-11s were about $250+tax for the pair. I needed to replace the original tires on my 04 TXTPro so honestly I'm sure anything is an improvement. TrialsSuperstore only sells the TL01 and X-11 if that tells you anything... I also looked at the Dunlop K950 but being DOT rated, it looked more like a dual sport tire pretending to be a trials tire. Reviews stated that the rubber compound is way harder than a true trials tire and therefore less traction.
