  1. I live in Ayrshire too and am looking for somewhere to practise. Recently bought a bike.
  2. This crowd do forest sales but beware of sending off for particulars as they charge for details you could easily get from solicitors. The tricky bit is finding the solicitors who are selling them. http://www.woodlandstewardship.com This site occasionaly comes up with small pieces of weird land. http://www.sva-auctions.co.uk/programme.html
  3. Never taken a Gas Gas apart but I would imagine that you have lost a few teeth from the kickstart idler gear. The one that generally engages with the clutch housing. Have you drained the oil lately? Any metal coming out with the oil? I take it when you say it is slipping you do not mean that the kickstart is slipping on the splined shaft coming out of the casing.
  4. Found another wee problem with this bike (2004 TXT Pro 300). I was backing off the pre-load on the rear shock and noticed that the damping/compression adjuster is missing. There is just a hole in which I can see a wee pin sticking down. I am guessing that there should be a screw type adjuster in it to push against the pin. Bit of a long shot but does anyone have a picture of what it should look like? Also someone recommended that I should set the spring length to 146mm. It would appear that the spring is only 145mm in length. I called Gas gas Technical help and the dude reckonned that is should be set to 140mm. That would mean a pre-load of 5mm. Is my spring knackered or is that about right? Cheers for now Stu
  5. Thanks Peter, I have made a few changes as you suggested and it seems to be a bit easier to start now. I think I need to gain about 2 stone in weight as well tho!
  6. Hi there Recently put a new set of pistons and seals into my front brake caliper. It all went back together OK however I am now trying to bleed the swine. Not having much joy and then I noticed that the caliper is moving apart where the wee 'O' ring sits when I pull the lever. I have tried tightening up the bolts but it doesn't make any difference. I put the old 'O' ring back in as I knew that it worked previously. As the bike is new to me I don't know if it was doing this before. Is a small amount of movement acceptable? It may be possible that this is a red herring as I read somewhere that the brakes are notoriouslly hard to bleed. Unfortunately I don't have a large syringe to perform a back bleeding manouvre. Any suggestions?? Cheers Stu
  7. I've just bought a 2004 TXT Pro 300 and am having a few problems starting it. I think it is mainly down to my lack of weight on the starter right enough. I read in the previous posts that if the mixture screw is closer to the barrel then it is a fuel mixture and closer to the air filter it is an air mixture. That may explain why I was getting some funny behaviour when I set the mixture screw to 1.5 turns it was all over the place. The screw I was playing with is closer to the barrel. I gather it will only have one screw for either fuel or air mixture and not both. There does seem to be some conflicting information as I have found a technical data sheet that recommends the fuel screw should be 2.5 turns out and the spark plug gap should be 0.9mm rather than 0.6mm as everyone else suggests. This is my first trials bike but not my first motorbike and it would seem there are quite a few differences.
  8. adult in body - youth in mind. 33 years young as an aside. I am a member of the Melville motor club which is ACU affiliated. Do I need to join a trials club in order to ride events. Obviously that would be the case for the closed to club ones. Club membership isn't too expensive anyway. Are the bikes scruntineered before the start and can you buy a license on the day? My current one only covers enduro.
  9. Hi there Just starting to look at trials bikes with a view to doing a few events and generally playing about. Been riding enduro's for 3 years or so and have always fancied a shot at trials. There are also a lot more events closer to where I live compared to enduro. Currently in the market for a bike and if anyone has one or a suggestion as to what would be a good beginners bike then let me know. Cheers for now. Stu
