I have fitted a new stator to my 1999 Techno 200 and seems to be running fine now after a bit of trial and error with the ignition timing.I have retarded the timing about 2mm from the centre of the screws and it seems to be running ok.I will need to try a test run.Does anyone know the torque setting for the flywheel?I have it at about 70 Newton metres at the moment safely but do not want to go any tighter as I don't want to strip the threads.
Been out to the shed this morning and tested stator with my basic multimeter.Reading I have is around 260.I assume this is my problem.I have mailed Bradford ignitions, waiting for a reply. Thanks to everyone for advice.
postage to steve in spain is about 3 pound and turn around about 10 days but itss a lot better than beta ones when its done had 2 done by steve no probs at all
I haven't got round to getting a manual for my Sherpa yet and I need new fork seals so I am going to do a fork strip and re-build.How much oil do I put back in?
Have another look, unless we're looking at two different bikes with rusty white frame and blue forks, the bike in the link in the very first post has no alloy bashplate, it has the bottom frame rails
It's a 198, there is no alloy bashplate, its got frame tubes and mesh guard. The swingarm is 198 not 198a, it has no strengthening plates down each arm
Comes to something when an Ossa man has to put you Bulto types right........
The first incomplete bike on the link at the very top of the page with the white frame is the 198A.
You guys amaze me. How the hell can you get down to model/year level from two crap photos of a serious wreck of a bike? It's like the Trials equivalent of train spotting! However, you clearly know your stuff and respect for that. I'm just amazed anyone can derive anything from the photos.
Jeez, it looks like a 198B. Javier must be wetting himself.
The frame rails behind the seat loop right back and meet,on the 198b they stop either side.Must be a 198a as it has the aly sump plate.Swingarm looks round section,on the B it is almost box section like.
I have a 1999 200 Techno, had it about 6 months with no problems but tonight I went to the shed to give it a once over for a trial on sunday and it won't start.
It seems to be getting plenty of fuel as the plug is wet after a few kicks, though I cleaned out the carb anyway, just to be sure.
It has a spark but it seems very weak and not very blue.Tried new plug, cleaned all connections, earths etc but no joy.
Anyone any ideas, things to try? Rotor,Stator,Black box?
I bought a twinshock Bultaco 2 weeks ago and took it to a trial last week, though I took the Beta on the trailer just in case the Bult gave me any trouble. It ran faultlessly but I think the Beta is in the huff!
I rode my first trial on a twinshock for 2 years today.I have been enjoying my comeback on my Techno 200 since last year but today rode my M190 Sherpa that I bought last weekend and have spent all week getting it ready (kind of).Though the bouncy rear shocks, leaking fork seals and ancient Pirelli tyres were still on the bike.
The marks are pretty high,I kept stalling it first lap but got better as the trial went on.
The main thing is though,I had a great day, loved it!I love Bults.
I also wash my Diadora's with the soapy water whilst washing the bike, stuff with newspaper until dry, couple of days usually. Then brush on Nikwax with an old toothbrush.Done.
I had one of these a few years ago with a view to re-building it,but the kickstart shaft had stripped all the splines off.A common Montesa problem I believe.I phoned round almost all the suppliers and breakers I could find but could not source another.Spares in general,I was told, are very thin on the ground.I sold it on soon after. The couple of times I had it running it seemed a good bike, very light and manageable. It had very high gearing though so no idea what it would have been like in a trial.
Sorry Davieboy, we need all our club members who ride modern to be observers that weekend, so it's strictly Pre65 and twinshocks. If we made it a modern two day we would be swamped.
The idea of creating the Alvie "Highland Classic" a few years ago was to give Scots Pre65 riders the chance to ride a real trial without relying on a one-ride-a-year at Kinlochleven. There are plenty of classes at Alvie as it is.
You will be most welcome to observe the two-day with your Beta 200!
Big John
I quite understand,Graham has told me it is a great trial.
If I haven't a bike I may well take you up on observing.
Anyway this thread has done our club a favour as a number of guys have expressed an interest in the Highland Classic 2 Day for Pre-65; Specials and Twinshocks, nice one Rappers, fancy it? See below!
Big John
What about an over 40's on modern bikes class John?
I don't have a twinshock (at the moment).
Compared to most club trials bikes my 200 Techno is almost classic.
